Pianist and former circus clown Jeremy Siskind shares three ways to add harmony to your right hand while playing basslines in the left. The three ways are: melodic, shuttle, and drape. Tunes for demonstration include "Days of Wine and Roses" and "Perdido."

Jeremy, for what it’s worth, you could have gone two hours and I would have watched the whole thing. I loved this tutorial!

Jeremy, to be honest, since I know your channel and I want to listen some nice and swingy jazz, I prefer to watch some of your lessons before listening some of the jazz giants...😊 you just explaining things in a great way, then you say: let me show you what I mean....and beginning to play like Oscar or ... Scott Joplin in double time...😁 That's really amazing!!! Thank you sooo much for the "entertainment" as well. Cheers and greetings from Europe!🎶🎹❤

That third hand thing reminds me of sight reading the Bach chorale transcriptions where sometimes you have to choose between taking a 10th in the right hand or a 10th in the left hand, and that can be a stumper. Given that you don't want to hinder your creative process with non-essential lanes of decisionmaking, it's definitely questionable whether you want to dedicate considerable practice energy to that. It brings to mind invertible counterpoint where you'd do some fancy thing that takes your whole right hand while the left takes 2 roles, then do the fancy thing in the left hand while the right takes 2 roles, and such a clear cut sequential alternation doesn't seem like a jazz style, so the utility of the technique seems to support much more niche scenarios.
Anyway what a great lesson, you have me sold on the book 1-2 100%!

Hey there! Yeah, I agree. It’s fancy but is it really efficient? Not for me, but Dave made it work and it is a kind of cool effect especially if you know the piano to have a chord come from seemingly thin air..

The triad towards the end, I heard Michel Petrucciani played 'in a sentimental mood' like that in one of his solo live performances

Not yet! I’m working on a second edition that will hopefully come out before the new year! For anyone who buys it now from my site, I’ll give them access to the videos for cheap when they’re out.
