  • In this video we will be discussing what I think are the 10 of the best carry on backpacks for one bag travel in 2022. It was tough to narrow this down with so many great travel bags on the market, but ultimately I focused on the bags that I have used most regularly and that meet the criteria for what I look for in a minimalist travel bag.
    Preferred Travel Backpack Features
    -30-40L Capacity
    -Clamshell Opening
    -Padded and Breathable Harness System
    -External Water Bottle Pocket
    -Padded and Suspended Laptop Sleeve
    -Weather resistant and durable materials
    -Removable Waist Belt
    What are the ideal features in your travel backpack? Any options I should have featured on this list?

    Loved the video mate! Do you know of any bags that can accommodate a smaller daypack to use as my personal item on the plane as well? I hate wearing two backpacks through the airport but I can’t do only one bag so do you know of any systems that can lash a smaller bag onto the bigger carry on bag?

    • @dannypacks

      Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! The primary ones that I’ve had experience with are the Osprey Ozone Duplex 65 (it has a duffel style bag that attaches to a daypack) and topo designs travel pack (they have a clip system that allows you to attach one of their daypacks to the travel bag). I believe Osprey has a few other options that allow you to attach a smaller bag and db journey has a little bit of a different system but might still be worth checking out

      Thank you for watching and good question! Great as always. I have the CTB35 and the Bellroy Transit Plus and love them. The only issue with the CTB35 is the weight. I think it is a bit heavy. I wonder if you can review the Eagle Creek Tour Travel Pack as it is a little lighter.

    Thanks for the great information. I’m currently torn between the Tortuga Outbreaker 35 and Aer Travel Pack 3 in regular and small versions in X-Pac. Which would you go with for overall design and long term durability as a carryon or possibly even squeezing as a personal item?

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and definitely a tough choice! I think both will be a bit of a challenge to use as a personal item (even the small version). Although I find the outbreaker slightly more comfortable, overall I prefer the travel pack 3 due to its organizational layout and the clamshell opening that it has vs the suitcase style of the outbreaker

    • @rdj333
      @rdj333 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dannypacks thank you for the reply! I like the Outbreaker a lot as well but feel like the overall quality of the Aer pack 3 is better. The X-PAC VX42 of the Aer appears sturdier and less shiny than the VX21 of the Tortuga. I ultimately decided on the full size under the premise if neither bag truly fit the personal item dimensions I’d press my luck with more capacity. With the bags side by side, there isn’t a significant difference in visual size to draw attention to the full size over the large. I just returned from a trip using the full-size as a personal item and it “fit” under the seat and I was never questioned about it.

  • @kaochao2356
    @kaochao2356 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    CTB35 is my fave! Love all the quick access pockets on the outside, and the water bottle pockets are deep and work well! I usually use the water bottle pockets as "lazy access" pockets when I want to throw random things in them without having to unzip anything, such as straws, napkins, umbrella, and (of course) water bottles. For that reason, I personally dislike Aer’s travel bags. I find their water bottle pockets to be poorly designed... things just slip out of them so easily. For some reason, they can create a really nice water bottle pocket in their Go pack, but the pockets in their Capsule & Travel packs suck.

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and for sharing your experience with the bags! Great point on the water bottle pockets on the CTB, definitely some of the best on the market!

    • @nomad0714
      @nomad0714 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kao Chao, I thought I was alone here as I don’t see many complain about AEFSF travel pack water bottle which I use so much for water and other organization packs for quick access or tripod. And this probably their weak link. Meanwhile, CTB35 does it so well that I tried putting in a 64oz water bottle and it fit. Ate into the bag and takes a little work but most packs can’t even fit a 32oz water bottle.

    For me.... 35 litres or less, with zip-away or hide-away backpack straps so I can also carry the bag like a duffel bag with one shoulder strap if I wish. I had larger MEI Voyageur and a Torguga that did that for me.... But I was always made to check my bag. And I'm getting older . 70 years old. So I've gone smaller.
    Now, both my 35 litre Minaal Carry On 2.0 and my 21 litre Minaal Daily fullfill that requirement for me. Zip away or hideaway backpack straps and ability to carry like a duffel bag, and small enough to carry on, and lighter weight.
    I almost always use only my Minaal Daily and an Osprey cross body sling bag now. Carry on only.

      Thank you for watching and that’s definitely a compelling option! The peak design bag has a lot of interesting features and a great build quality, for me since it’s such a big and heavy the harness system needs to be top notch and for my preferences it doesn’t match up to the other bags I had in the list, but for people who like the peak design harness I can see this being a top choice for sure!

    • @nomad0714
      @nomad0714 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dannypacks, agree with you.
      My PD is hidden somewhere as it’s heavy and the harness system failed. It’s surprising as they pay attention to details but I guess when it comes to backpacks, comfort is most important and they failed here, at least with my experience. And the black is a dirt magnet. Of all the quality bags collection (most on your list here) here and I use many, this one has to be cleaned often to the point, I just put it away as my museum collection! 😂
      The Heimplanet 34l v2 has been my travel and EDC. Professional for work but also you can take around town or on travels. It’s soft, quality materials, good enough harness system without being over built, lighter than most at 34l, great organization, and can fit more than I expected. Definitely exceeded my expectations and am surprised it’s not mention as much as say AERSF Travel Pack 1/2/3 or as others on this list.
      I’m curious to see their v3 and what else they can improve more on.

    16:40 You can tell someone has traveled a lot, when they've noticed boarding agent stink eye for having a onebag with an excess of straps and waist belt, bottle slots and compression straps, and spider webbing for holding a rain jacket or fleece. Yeah boarding with a low-key minimalist design goes smoother ad probably gets us a pass in terms of being slightly overweight and slightly wider.

      Thank you for watching! The Arcido Akra has been on sale for as low as 120 usd, which is pretty tough to beat, the farpoint may also be in a slightly lower price range from the others

    Arcido Akra or ... Osprey Ozone 46

      Thank you for watching and definitely a tough choice! Both would be great, for my preferences I would probably lean towards the Akra as I prefer the aesthetic and I really like it’s simplicity

    Why not able carry max?

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! The only reason it wasn’t included is that I was focusing on bags over 30l (techonaut is 30l but they have a 45l version) which I typically use for longer trips, but I am a big fan of the able carry max and will definitely be including it in any top minimal travel bag or larger edc lists I do in the future :)

    Are They Waterproof?

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching! I would say the bags are weather resistant but not waterproof so water could seep in if there’s heavier rain (some of the fabrics on different bags like sailcloth / xpac will be more weather resistant and then there are options for additional covers that would be more protective)

    Honestly don't understand why the goruck is on here... 99% of people don't need that kind of "toughness". $400 dollars for a bag that weighs almost 4lbs. Would like to see more hiking oriented bags that are actually lightweight.

      Simply because the TH-camrs making these kind of videos get commissions per sale. They never review good quality affordable bags, promoting $400 dollar bags is more profitable. I would love to see video reviews of sub $100 bags!

      Thank you for watching and definitely some fair points with regards to weight and cost. For me having the extra durability (especially when it’s the only bag I’ll have on a multi week trip with all my stuff) and the organization and aesthetic that I like is worth the premium but there are definitely some great options in lower price ranges that are lighter as well

      Thank you for watching and for the suggestion to review some more affordable options! I try to feature some of those on the channel when I run into one that I find particularly good for the price, I recommend checking out some of the videos we’ve done for bags from Hynes Eagle, Inatek, Amazon basics and eBags. I’m sure there’s more I haven’t had a chance to test yet but I’ll be keeping an eye out!

      @@dannypacks Hello Danny! I've watched the videos you mentioned, you are one of the few TH-camrs I've seen reviewing low budget backpacks. I didn't want to come across as rude but it is frustrating, 99% of backpack video reviews on TH-cam are about Aer, Goruck, Bellroy, Tom Bhin etc. I am simply tired of it, I refuse to pay over $100 for a backpack. You should take a look at the Underseat Pro backpack, it's $80, great value for the money. I follow BREAKAWAY ON A BUDGET channel on youtube, that's where I got to know the undreseat pro backpack. Keep on the good work!
