- The cheap Cadillac Escalade engine swap is one of the most requested videos I've ever had. Everyday there are comments asking when it will be back, and here it is. We had to setup a new shop just to get this knocked out, all new lighting, tools, tool boxes... a lot had to happen to make this happen and now we're ready! The cheap 2011 Cadillac Escalade and its new L94 engine are ready to go, all that's left to do is take out some bolts and put them back in.

DOD delete is a pretty big win in my opinion
Yeah, I was freaked out at first thinking it was the wrong engine but injectors, heads, block all matched up 😳

@@BigBisalreadytakendisplacement on demand. Basically under low stress operation like highway driving, it disables some cylinders to save on fuel as maintaining speed doesn't require much power at all. Problem is that GM's system breaks and it's a pain to fix

I'm not sure you could hear a rod knocking on just the starter cranking it anyway. I bought an 87 Toyota SR5 turbo pickup once many years ago and paid a guy to drive it back. The turbo was toast and the engine sounded fine. Not until the turbo was replaced and it had the correct tune on it was I able to hear the soul crushing sound of rods knocking.
Funny that 100% Jake being used to yanking his crank would turn into something useful with helping to crank on some bolts...

I believe if that engine has been DoD deleted (and they did it correctly), you may want to go the same path. I believe the lifters for the DoD delete are different (no oil passage, non collapsing) and will cannonball that engine if it runs an extended period with those lifters with DoD enabled.

Check out Mitch Stapletons twin turbo LSX Escalade. Not too many run 8's in the quarter mile.

we didnt have SUVs, or mcdonalds, ,growing up. We did have Big GM cars though. 78 and 81 Cadillac Sevilles, 84 Olds 98, 85 Olds Delta 88, there was a large wood station wagon with the swing out tailgate and roll down rear window at one point. still towed trailers and took 6 people on road trips
For us it was McDonald's in the back of a 100 series's Land Cruiser... Boy do I miss that car. Learned to drive a little using it but unfortunately right before I got my license we had to donate it due to the rust getting too bad.
Tough luck with the Rodney Wants Out engine but you’re smashing the fitting of its replacement. Decent service from the engine supplier too. Nice.

Years ago the bosses van wasted the engine and it took two or three new chevy crate motors to get a good one. The shop had to do them both and the van has had 3 transmissions and at least two crate motors. It has had the head gaskets done and some other work, can't remember if it has at least another engine or not. 08 chevy 3/4 ton 4.8 etc, transmissions in all those things were junk, engines were ok, electronics really junk.
When I did the water pump and timing belt on my 95 Neon coupe as soon as enough of the front of the engine was together enough I started it and let it idle a bit to make sure everything was good.
Sure didn't want to tear it back apart if I forgot something 😮😂

Please don't use that intake after a piston failure. There will be debris in there. At least on the one that was in the truck when it scattered.

2008 Escalade L94 did not yet come from factory with DOD. So not deleted, because was never there.
My vortex engine is over 350000 miles,still running smooth.
My family was a Ford family. I was born in the early 90s and grew up with my mom having an '84 Mustang 5.0, then a '96 Mercury Sable, then an '05 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Never had a '90s Suburban. My dad had an early 80s Ranger and then an '02 Ranger that he still owns.
(I'm 37) i grew up around 70s and 80s Volvos, Chryslers and Buicks . But the big family car ended up being a 2 door 94 Explorer Sport. We drove the wheels off of it to over 200k. Weirdly no GMs
The family hauler of my childhood was a blue and 'wood' International Travelall.

Going to be doing the same thing with my Avalanche. Put a new motor in then low oil pressure after 7k. Filter and magnet full of metal for some reason, damnit! Put a motor on with no dod too.
That makes no sense. How many miles were on that engine 300k? Someone sold you a bad engine

Either a DoD-deleted L94 or just an L9H the outcome is the same- just sell it to someone to shuttle kids to/from McDonalds instead of to live on an interstate and it's all win.
I grew up being given around in a Reliant Robin 3 wheeler as my dad transitioned from riding a motorbike and sidecar (BSA from the 60s) he only ever had a full motorbike licence here in the UK (the reliant was in the same licence class as a motorbike)

What is DOD on engines?
Don't know if it'll work properly in your case, but I used a superchips flashpaq years ago to turn off the DoD on my G8. Unfortunately it's locked to one vehicle until it gets flashed back to stock. Guessing you know someone with HP tuners or similar though.
my 2008 denali is a 6.2 and did not have dod from the factory

The problem is the gm engines. My buddy keeps buying Cadillacs and not a single engine made it past 135k miles.
At this point I'd make it electric. Thanks for your content and passion. I do intend on converting a ice engine to electric and this is letting me know what I'm in for if I mess with a Caddy. Thanks.

The dod on the 6.2 was never activated in the pcm. I don’t know why. I replaced a 6.2 years ago and GM told me this because I got a replacement motor from GM and the motor they sent didn’t have no dod on it they told me to clip the wires and shrink wrap them and hide the wires in the harness
