Fellow St. Louisan, albeit much less famous ;-), and IT Practicioner, chimes in with a hearty HERE HERE!!! My Pi, in it's custom 3d printed case (that I'm very proud of) with a nice OLED status screen, ice tower cooler, etc.... is my daily driver. After a hiatus of approx 5 years from IT, my return, my passion for a life long career and hobby, was reignited by this little device. Through the pandemic, the projects I explored and the work I did with this saved me in more ways than one. Living the single life, isolation is already present, but the added isolation from the Covid event took it even higher. The ability to dive into this little piece of wonder, learn, and grow, kept me sane. Lastly, as a scout leader for years, seeing the work the PI has done in education, makes me even prouder to own one and be an enthusiast. THANK YOU! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
10 years ago my uncle brought me raspberry pi 2 model B... My first ever computer... and now I am working as a software engg. along with my degrees... in frond of 4B.... they sure did impacted my life... And by the way ..love your videos..
I currently have 4 Raspberry Pi-s. A zero as a DNS server (pihole), a 3B+ for retro games, a 4B as a Git and build server and a Zero 2 for experimenting. Without a doubt they are the most useful, most versatile computers in existence today.
10 years of Pi, yet I could never imagine to live without them. The company behind the Raspberry Pi is one of the few non-corrupt companies on the whole planet earth, keep it up, guys. You never disappoint me.
Except that it mystifies me why I've never been able to order more than one Zero at a time. Normally I get five or 10 of a thing to defray the cost of shipping, and then use them in all sorts of disparate ways. To this day, I still don't have a Zero...there appears to be some sort of interdiction in place. Very off-putting! Seems to mar what has otherwise been absolutely fantastic in every way.
@@tlhoutman their prices aren't insane, I know some people working their, their product is actually beneficial for humanity + literally 0 corruption scandals.
When I got my raspberry pi after using a windows laptop at first I thought it was boring and tedious but I kept coming back to it because it’s so satisfying to use
a raspberry pi was one of the best things that i have ever bought. i can play games, use the web (mostly), and you can put it in basically any project you can think of!
Thank you so much Raspberry Pi team... My first introduction into Linux, self hosting, and a bunch more was from the RPi. I initially got one to run Retropie because I just wanted a retro console that I can carry around. I didn't understand much of what this thing was, other than the fact that I could follow a few steps and get a cheap console. One thing lead to another and I discovered many more projects and now I've developed a deep interest in computing overall. I've learnt a lot of things since, but I attribute all of it to the interest induced by the RPi i bought in 2017. Thank you for rebuilding a generation of enthusiasts.
LOVE this. Like so many of us of that era, I started on home computers, learnt programming, and went to college followed by a job in IT. It is definitely not the same anymore, but the team at Pi are doing an amazing and valuable job in changing that. I wish you all continued success.
The Raspberry Pi not only engaged kids, it engaged makers to supercharge their creations, the GPIO is the real USP, thanks Eban and team, you guys really rock, happy anniversary.
Not just that on lower quantities it's actually cheaper then building things from cheaper ICs. Because the hours to design a board with let's say: USB and ethernet alone would cost more then just buying 2 Pis. So even on the professional scale there are very relevant use cases if you want to deploy less then 100 devices. Even if you barely use half the hardware and specialized ICs would theoretically call less then 10%. Those boards would need to be designed first and that costs a good bunch of developer hours which are more expensive then a bunch Pis. Also in some cases they cut the need for a dedicated hardware dev altogether.

Pi 4 is my first Raspberry which I built and NAS around. Running for a year now, no issues whatsoever. Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and ESP were the best things that happened to me in my life even if I'm not a computer engineer or a full-time programmer, I could build so many useful inventions and tools around them. Thank you everyone
I remember ordering my first Pi, it was a Pi 1 Model B. The idea of having a tiny computer as small as a credit card is what excited me, plus I had some experience running Linux. It took couple of years of maturity (both for me and the Pis themselves) before I truly understood the potential of having these small, energy efficient machines for home projects. Now I have loads of Pis and Pi Zero Ws dotted around the place (along with ESPs as well). Running as streaming servers for music and video. Managing ambient LEDs behind my TV. Controlling my entire smart home and collecting sensor data. Things I know my younger self would be in awe of. Thanks for a glorious 10 years!
The Raspberry Pi is the reason I work as a programmer now. It's what accelerated my learning of Linux and Python. Got my first one in 2013 in 7th grade. Thank you for everything.
I'm 18 and daily driving Linux today, mainly because of the Raspberry Pi. I don't remember why I bought it back in the time, but i loved tinkering with it. Playing with GPIO pins to make LED blink or creating a Minecraft Server for me to play with my friend made so much of an experience. I'm now heading into a computer science eduction and I wanted to thank you so much with this comment. ❤👍

Excellent work. As a middle aged hobbyist on a part-time minimum wage budget, the Pi is almost like a dream come true. I've used one in 2 projects so far, 1 serious and 1 fun project, and both were excellent value and have more than enough CPU power/RAM to do the job. The first one I bought was a bit of fun, but also really helpful. As someone who has loved video games since I was a small child and still own the vast majority of my gear, and use a lot of it semi-regularly, the hassle and mess of having so many systems(upwards of 10 at the time) semi-setup(my TV only has 2 HDMIs and 1 SCART, and I only have 2 spare plug sockets without risking overload), so setting up a Pi with the Batocera emulation system was amazing. Now what used to take up over half of my room is now done by 2 game consoles(the Pi doesn't have the power to emulate later systems, obviously) and a computer what is, for lack of better term, the size of a box of cigarettes. It also helped massively in that two of my older systems(A1200 and C64) were suffering from data loss due to natural bit rot on magnetic media. The second is a NAS drive that I use to store backup disk images of every drive in my house using OpenMediaVault. The entire thing cost less than £150, and that includes an 8TB hard disk. I can now effectively lose a hard disk/SSD, and be up and running with minimal data loss in the time it takes to buy a replacement drive. I can't wait to see what you'll do in the future.
Here we are, after too many years, and a long long way crossed all we together. From the close first moment with a big and slowly increasing community and big good projects within. I really apreciate your idea of take away to publish the first SBC multipurpouse, so many time ago now. For my hands has passed come generations of it (Zero, 1, 3...), and I am proud of have seen it's evolution from my body. And see good people, sharing their personal and helpful projects for they, and for the community. That has helped to many other people inside and outside of their own countries. Add to say, that I really apreciate the work behind the "Raspberry Pi Foundation", and what it transmits to us, those of us who live it, and use its products. Really thanks!!
Having started on a Spectrum and Commodore Vic 20 and gone onto university studying CS, and a 20+ year career in software, I've had a similar journey. Now having 4 Pi's at home, I've found that simply having the freedom to play with a machine that isn't my main desktop is so much fun. Being able to tear apart the OS and customise it to the extreme, has taught me so much about OS's and other aspects of cumputers which I don't get to explore in my day-to day. I think that the Pi is such an important learning tool for the 21st centuary. Good luck for the next 10.
I got a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B from a very dear friend of mine last month as a gift. I've used it with an Electronics Kit to build all sorts of circuits, ranging from an LED Bar Graph to a Relay Motor to an Infrared Sensor. I was even able to control the RPi's GPIO from my phone using WebIOPi. This is a super cool little computer, and the scope of its capabilities has completely blown me away. I've been blessed to experience computing and electronics with the RPi, and I plan on using it in another project sometime in the near future. Can't wait to see where the platform goes in the next 10 years!
My first computer in the 80s, was an Acorn Electron as well, and then an Apple Macintosh SE-30 in the early 90s. This year in 2022, I am back to basic and have a Raspberry Pi 400 and a Raspberry Pi Pico. I must congratulate the developer and his team that brought to the world a simple and well-built computer for everyone. This computer would change the world for the better. Thank you very much! For the price you can't beat the versatility of the different flavors of the Pi. I've run a Pi3 as my main media center for 5 years now and it has just worked 24/7. At work I have one glued at the back of my monitor to connect to serial equipment for configuring industrial electronics and other mundane tasks. Keep up the good work!
Found this video today. Just yesterday I finished my controller project for my Ikea Idasen standing desk. That desk was bloody pricey, yet they apparently couldn't fit a few buttons in the budget to give me height presets. You need a Bluetooth app on your phone for that. Luckily, people had made open source programs to do that from a PC, so I went "hold on, I got this Raspberry Pi Zero W in my drawer, it's a PC, it has Bluetooth, it's got GPIO pins, I'm just gonna make my own button panel!", which is exactly what I did. It's a little crude but boy does it work. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing work. I've used Pis in a bunch of projects. My first Pi allowed me to run a home server for a price I could afford as a teenager. It got me into Linux. I don't think I would be where I am today without my Pi 3B. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

As someone who is currently studying Computer Engineering and was inspired in large part by messing around with Raspberry Pis in middle and high school, I can’t thank you enough! Here’s to another ten years.
I bought a Raspberry Pi so I could research my studies, today it's been 1 year since I bought a Raspberry Pi 4b 32 bit, and I don't regret it. I want to be able to improve my setup and be able to make a living from programming and be able to make my dreams come true! If, one day, I am going to tell my story one day, the Raspberry Pi will have a special role in that path. Detail: I've been using Raspberry Pi as my main PC since the beginning!
It really sucks how easy modern computers are to use. Well, not really, but it means less people actually learn how it works beyond a very basic level.
I was lucky to grow up on the Commodore 64, and of course I now run a multitude of raspberry pis for all sorts of things, thank you so much for this I can't express enough just how great of a thing it is you did, and are still doing
This is one of the most wholesome videos I've ever watched and although I have no interest in computing, watching this has made me appreciate how fortunate of a world we live in where stuff like this are easily accessible and can just create new passions in people.
It just amazes me how this small thing can fit in the palm of my hand, doesn’t consume a lot of power and doesn’t break anyones bank. This definitely has inspired a generation of programmers.
My first computer was an Acorn Atom, and more than 40 years later I have a couple of Raspberry Pis helping me to do some experimentation, helping me learn new programming languages and techniques. I can't imagine life without. Best thing ever!!

You hit the mark so well. A raspberry pi was my main computer for some years as a kid, and when it got replaced by a hand-me-down laptop it turned into a server for me. I mean how awesome is that? What 13 year old get the option of running their own server? Both of my parents barely touched tech and where late adopters of things like mobile phones and smart phones, but the raspberry pi platform pared with youtube gave me everything I needed to really learn, play, and tinker as much as I wanted. I got to enjoy a lot of retro games too on the platform. I mostly played a selection of nes games and I also played quake 3. I'm still blown away that my pi 2 could handle playing quake 3 online a smooth frame rate. Even still I use my old raspberry pi as a light server device. I can't believe that thing after all these years still works, and I can't believe how computationally capable and low power draw that thing is.
I was one of those waiting up in the wee small hours to get my hands on one of the original Pi’s and contributing to crashing the websites. I couldn’t imagine not having a Pi now, I have at least 10 around the house doing various things from running homebridge to TVHeadend. Thank you so much!
A great video telling a compelling story. I was lucky. Back in the 80's I saved my pocket money and bought a ZX80. Soldered it up and I was hooked on computing. Over the years I had the opportunity to use/own ZX81, Spectrum, Dragon 32, Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Commodore 64 and Mactintish and well as regular PC's. At school though there was an issue. If you were in the top sets computing wasn't an option. So I left school and took an apprenticeship in engineering. Fast forward 10 years and I quit work to study for 6 months (UMIST Manchester - thanks for believingin me Dr. Brunn). Computing had took off in engineering and I needed to get a foundation in CAD/CAM. My career changed. I was now a setter/operator/programmer of CNC machinery. Obviously when Raspberry Pi launched I was an early purchaser. I now have a collection doing all sorts of cool stuff (SatNOGS Station, 3d printer monitor, Christmas decorations etc.). Nowadays I program robotic optical scanners in metrology for an automotive manufacturer but still wander where I would be if computing at school had been an option.
My first experience with operating systems and code in general was on the a Pi, Now I'm in school for game design and coding. Without the Pi I dont think I would've gone this way in life

The raspberry pi series is my favourite computer of all times. I have used computers since I was a kid, and ended up doing a PhD in computer science, but the raspberry pi is the machine that had the most influence on me. It got me into physical computing, electronics, robotics, etc... The raspberry pi also is what I would have needed as a teen to fulfill my dreams back then. And thanks to it, I was able to satisfy past me :) Now it is a major component of my teaching (my robots and many other projects that I use to teach computer science, technology, engineering ... Thank you, raspi foundation for this amazing work. I hope I manage to convey the passion to my students :)

Thanks, for making these. I used make a bunch of projects with my dad (he introduced them to me) with these before he passed away. Rasspberry pi actually got me into programming and made me fall in love with what I do and learn as of now. I still have my model B+ rasspbery pi and I still love it to this day ! thank you for all of this !
Growing up in my household we had the Amstrad CPC 464 and the Atari XE computers. Me and my brother would sit there for hours writing programmes in basic that we had got out of computer magazines and books from the time. And I wrote a few programmes and games when I was at senior school, but even though I had a joy for it and some experience, The school didn’t really push IT as they should have and I didn’t end up taking it any further. I preordered the first raspberry pi and it definitely re-inspired me to get back into computing and learn some python programming for robots with my son. And I am now in a senior position in the technology company I work for leading digitalisation work streams and part of a team developing applications. Thanks to Eben and the team for bringing this absolutely necessary piece of technology to the world.
I Had just build my own computer a few months before the raspberry pi and was really new and getting into the hobby of computing. I still remember my mum talking to me about this £25 small computer and we had a look online and i asked if we could pre-order one and to my surprise she said yes. When it arrived i was hooked, getting raspbian set up, little bit of overclocking, seeing what a 25 quid computer could do. Very soon my school opened an after school computing club where we would tinker with old Machines see what we can get running. (I still remember someone trying to get one of the first builds of Android for x86 booting on a pentium 4.) but i was the first with a raspberry pi and i brought it in and everyone wanted a slice. by next year they introduced a computer Science course. My first pc got me on the PCMR train... My first pi got me on track for my career Thank you eben and team, heres to the next 10!
I was 16 (now 18) when I first bought a Raspberry PI kit and it was the best thing I owned, i spent weeks customizing my experience on it , turned it into a Media Player, A Emulation Station , a Firewall and alot more , i still own that raspberry Pi and it still works as intended Thank you for this wonderful piece of Invention

My Raspberry Pi, kicks off more conversation than my gaming PC, and the easy of a retro gaming experience, has gotten them into the hands of my very blue collar coworkers. I’m completely blown away, at the popularity your machines have gained. I’m excited to see where this goes from here.
Wonderful intro. I got into computing in 1981 when I built a single board computer based on the Z80 processor running at 1Hz so I could trace all clock cycles. I had a 8 byte memory box made of wood, 3.5mm (8x8 ) headphone jacks and pluggable diodes. As I moved through my next computer the second hand ZX81 (love of my life at the time), I had learnt Machine Code. Got into Engineering to work on IBM PCs with floppy discs identifying me as ‘the guy who knows more’ and then to my horror arrived the Windows mouse driven platform enabling everyone to use the PC. 😂 I now have several RPis and tinker in both HW and Software, more so in NLP.
I got recommended this video last night and it got me going down a little TH-cam rabbit hole finding out about this stuff. Ultimately, it led me to impulse buy a Raspberry Pi 400 kit in the wee hours of the morning around like 3am just because it looked neat. On an unrelated note... Happy Pi Day (3/14)
Thank y'all for all the work you've done! Playing around with a Raspberry Pi is what helped me to stick out engineering after a rough freshman year. It helped to show me how much fun engineering can be. My capstone project which finished off my bachelor's in engineering was built around two Raspberry Pi's!
I came from the ZX days and agree completely, this was my gateway into a career of computers, mostly through the lens of design with the occassional dip into programming. I have the ZX on display in my office and several Raspi4's in my network cabinet. Thanks for creating such a great machine.
I've gotten to make a ton of cool projects and learn new things with the help of Raspberry Pis over the years. A big part of what makes pi so awesome is the support from the devs and community. Big thank you to everyone that made the pi and all the cool projects possible
As an engineer, nothing had gotten me more excited about what I do and what I could do for my colleague, children, students than the Raspberry Pi. Not since my own commodore 64 have I been more excited about the future of Computer Science. It's just brilliant, and I thank you foundation from the bottom of my heart.
Video games got me into computing. I always wanted to know how to make whatever I wanted. It used to be to make games, but then I just wanted to make things that were fun in any way or just looked cool. I own a dozen pis (from the original A to the 4) and I thank you all for creating these nifty little boards. I love the platform.

It feels kind of surreal looking back to when I had placed my pre-order for the very first Raspberry Pi which was a struggle at the time due to web traffic causing the websites to crash, fast forward to now and we now have a whole range of different models as well as other stuff such as the RP2040 microcontroller. When I was around 8/9 (in 2012/2013) I remember watching click with my dad, we used to watch it ever Sunday morning to see what was the latest tech. I remember someone mentioning this raspberry pi and I took a lot of interest, my dad later brought me one (Raspberry pi (c) 2011.12) because I took so much interest and ever since then ive been making little projects, I've taken this more seriously in the last couple of years and am about to go to uni to study computing. I can say that without the rpi I would not be in the position I am today and would most likely not be so interested in this topic. Thank you.

Wonderful story. I also started my programming journey with old computers. My first PC was an Intel 286 IBM. I was hooked as soon as I first booted it up and started typing commands. As a programmer and a computer enthusiast I can honestly say that Raspberry Pi is a very special thing for me. I have used it on commercial and personal projects. It is just very convenient to work with.
Hello: so i share my story, I was in college, we liked to program robots and other similar things, the problem was if you wanted something smaller than a laptop, we had to get an industrial computer that was not cheap, or you could get a router and reprogram it but each time a router broked down if you did not have a similar arm chipped router you have to start all over again, so one day someone said it will create a small computer it names will be raspberry pi ok. The first pi i bought after testing, i bought to collage It was so popular that i got a day later back to my hand. When some of my relative kids reach 12 I buy them a Raspberry pi zero. (sorry for my broken English)
I love everything about this video and story 😍 I’m so glad you made this, and that the algorithm served it up to me. I was born 4 years later than Eben (in 1982), and I also had an Acorn Electron and a BBC-B growing up, followed by an Amiga 500 😁 Perhaps notably, I didn’t move on from there to game consoles (though I definitely spent a lot of time playing games!), but to the PC (486-DX, then a Pentium II 233Mhz IIRC). I stuck with Windows until I was lured to the Apple side in 2009, by a combination of the Mac labs at university in previous years, and then by the iPod-iPhone-Mac slippery slope 😂 I was never a programmer, but I loved figuring out how systems worked - mastering them, knowing how to use and fix them and how to best solve a given problem with technology, etc. It seems to make perfect sense now, given my 15 year career thus far in systems administration and architecture, in a range of different jobs and specialities! But I took a four year detour into a psychology degree first 🤷🏻♀️ I was familiar and comfortable with things like the command line (I remember the days when you could only launch into Windows by first typing a command into DOS!) and various config files (autoexec.bat and various *.ini files, etc). I don't remember the details of what I did now, but back in the 90s at school, I figured out how to override the restrictions in place to allow internet access only during lunch hour and specific IT classes in specific locations by "hacking" trumpet winsock, so mostly what I remember is my sense of smugness and satisfaction at being able to access the internet at school anytime, and from any school location with a computer in it! 😄 I'm still not a programmer and don't know any programming languages, but I'm slowly moving in the direction of becoming very comfortable with scripting - I mean, it's impossible to be any kind of useful Windows*/Office 365/MS stack sysadmin now without Powershell, so I've been gradually learning/skilling up/teaching myself over the last 5 years especially. I'm at the point where I could definitely see the benefit of learning JavaScript and Python at least, so maybe this is another gradual slippery slope to my eventual evolution into becoming a developer! 🤨 * (while I've been exclusively a Mac/iOS user at home for going on 13 years, I'm still vastly more competent at Windows systems at a professional fully in-depth level... identity crisis maybe...) I do wonder how my life and career would have progressed if I went down the console route instead of tinkering more with PCs and getting into various kinds of technical support, and deepening my knowledge and skills from there. Also, I've never owned a Raspberry Pi, and I'm not sure why - but I *love* that they exist, and it's so great to hear about the positive change they brought into getting students and young people interested in "computers" at a deep level again! 😃 It's funny how "computers" went from being a niche interest for only certain types of nerds (👋🏻), to being something that everyone takes for granted and interacts with almost all day every day, but without being forged in that lower level crucible of having to first become knowledgeable and skilled in that area before being able to get as much out of it. Things like the Raspberry Pi that bring some of that back I think are essential for harnessing people's interest, and keeping one pipeline of developing the kind of mindset that leads to continued advancements in computing 👏🏻 (Please forgive my lengthy nostalgic meanderings! And congrats on the 10 year anniversary 🥳)

Almost as exciting and inspiring as when I saw the Science of Cambridge advert for the MK14 Microcomputer in 1977. I saved up 3 months pocket money to get my hands on my first computer. The MK14 was a forerunner to the later Sinclair ZX80. Well done to the Raspberry Pi team. I am really in love with the Pi Zero 2W.

I started with programming before the first Raspberry Pi was announced, yet somehow, I still had to have it. Now I have several, and I use them rather rarely for anything serious, but they also give me this strange joy whenever I have a chance to use one. It's amazing how something so small and inexpensive can be so powerful in times when we're used to $2000 smartphones, which have fairly similar performance and are even much larger than a full-sized Raspberry Pi.
As a fellow hobbyist, I also grew up in the era of Sinclairs, Trash 80s, Commie 64s and Atari 400/800s. As well as the Apple ][ up to my own //e and //gs. I graduated from highschool in the US in the mid part of the late 80s and got my degree in EE and CS. I have been most impressed with the pi’s and currently own three zero Ws, two 3b+, a 4b and thankfully a zero W 2. I love fiddling with them. Thanks guys. Can’t wait until the chip shortage ends.

Great video. I've been using Pis for more than half my life (since Christmas 2014). My first Pi was the B+ and I now have a collection of seven, including the 4B 4GB, the 3B+, 3A+, 2 Zero Ws and a Zero 2W. The Pi was my first computer, and even though I now have a more powerful PC, they still hold a special place in my heart, as well as being used for countless projects. I'm looking forward to where the next 10 years takes us.

Fellow St. Louisan, albeit much less famous ;-), and IT Practicioner, chimes in with a hearty HERE HERE!!! My Pi, in it's custom 3d printed case (that I'm very proud of) with a nice OLED status screen, ice tower cooler, etc.... is my daily driver. After a hiatus of approx 5 years from IT, my return, my passion for a life long career and hobby, was reignited by this little device. Through the pandemic, the projects I explored and the work I did with this saved me in more ways than one. Living the single life, isolation is already present, but the added isolation from the Covid event took it even higher. The ability to dive into this little piece of wonder, learn, and grow, kept me sane. Lastly, as a scout leader for years, seeing the work the PI has done in education, makes me even prouder to own one and be an enthusiast. THANK YOU! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I currently have 4 Raspberry Pi-s. A zero as a DNS server (pihole), a 3B+ for retro games, a 4B as a Git and build server and a Zero 2 for experimenting. Without a doubt they are the most useful, most versatile computers in existence today.
And those are only hobbyist uses. Imagine what companies do with Raspberry PIs. It's unbelievable what such a small piece of technology can do.

They are versatile for sure, but you can do all of what you mentioned with one low powered computer running unraid and dockers.
10 years of Pi, yet I could never imagine to live without them. The company behind the Raspberry Pi is one of the few non-corrupt companies on the whole planet earth, keep it up, guys. You never disappoint me.
Except that it mystifies me why I've never been able to order more than one Zero at a time. Normally I get five or 10 of a thing to defray the cost of shipping, and then use them in all sorts of disparate ways. To this day, I still don't have a Zero...there appears to be some sort of interdiction in place. Very off-putting! Seems to mar what has otherwise been absolutely fantastic in every way.

When I got my raspberry pi after using a windows laptop at first I thought it was boring and tedious but I kept coming back to it because it’s so satisfying to use
I was one of those that grew up with console gaming in the 90s/00s. Ironically now I buy raspberry Pi to play the same consoles.
This is so nostalgic for me, tinkering with Rasberry Pi in the early 2010s were the most memorable times of my teenage years.
a raspberry pi was one of the best things that i have ever bought. i can play games, use the web (mostly), and you can put it in basically any project you can think of!
Thank you so much Raspberry Pi team... My first introduction into Linux, self hosting, and a bunch more was from the RPi. I initially got one to run Retropie because I just wanted a retro console that I can carry around. I didn't understand much of what this thing was, other than the fact that I could follow a few steps and get a cheap console. One thing lead to another and I discovered many more projects and now I've developed a deep interest in computing overall. I've learnt a lot of things since, but I attribute all of it to the interest induced by the RPi i bought in 2017. Thank you for rebuilding a generation of enthusiasts.
LOVE this. Like so many of us of that era, I started on home computers, learnt programming, and went to college followed by a job in IT. It is definitely not the same anymore, but the team at Pi are doing an amazing and valuable job in changing that. I wish you all continued success.
The Raspberry Pi not only engaged kids, it engaged makers to supercharge their creations, the GPIO is the real USP, thanks Eban and team, you guys really rock, happy anniversary.
Not just that on lower quantities it's actually cheaper then building things from cheaper ICs.
Because the hours to design a board with let's say: USB and ethernet alone would cost more then just buying 2 Pis.
So even on the professional scale there are very relevant use cases if you want to deploy less then 100 devices. Even if you barely use half the hardware and specialized ICs would theoretically call less then 10%. Those boards would need to be designed first and that costs a good bunch of developer hours which are more expensive then a bunch Pis. Also in some cases they cut the need for a dedicated hardware dev altogether.

My journey about learning on RasPi's from age 9 to now still hasn't faltered and has made more than a massive impact on me and my fellow peers!
Pi 4 is my first Raspberry which I built and NAS around. Running for a year now, no issues whatsoever. Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and ESP were the best things that happened to me in my life even if I'm not a computer engineer or a full-time programmer, I could build so many useful inventions and tools around them. Thank you everyone
I remember ordering my first Pi, it was a Pi 1 Model B. The idea of having a tiny computer as small as a credit card is what excited me, plus I had some experience running Linux.
It took couple of years of maturity (both for me and the Pis themselves) before I truly understood the potential of having these small, energy efficient machines for home projects. Now I have loads of Pis and Pi Zero Ws dotted around the place (along with ESPs as well). Running as streaming servers for music and video. Managing ambient LEDs behind my TV. Controlling my entire smart home and collecting sensor data. Things I know my younger self would be in awe of.

The Raspberry Pi is the reason I work as a programmer now. It's what accelerated my learning of Linux and Python. Got my first one in 2013 in 7th grade. Thank you for everything.
I'm 18 and daily driving Linux today, mainly because of the Raspberry Pi. I don't remember why I bought it back in the time, but i loved tinkering with it. Playing with GPIO pins to make LED blink or creating a Minecraft Server for me to play with my friend made so much of an experience. I'm now heading into a computer science eduction and I wanted to thank you so much with this comment. ❤👍

Excellent work. As a middle aged hobbyist on a part-time minimum wage budget, the Pi is almost like a dream come true. I've used one in 2 projects so far, 1 serious and 1 fun project, and both were excellent value and have more than enough CPU power/RAM to do the job.
The first one I bought was a bit of fun, but also really helpful. As someone who has loved video games since I was a small child and still own the vast majority of my gear, and use a lot of it semi-regularly, the hassle and mess of having so many systems(upwards of 10 at the time) semi-setup(my TV only has 2 HDMIs and 1 SCART, and I only have 2 spare plug sockets without risking overload), so setting up a Pi with the Batocera emulation system was amazing. Now what used to take up over half of my room is now done by 2 game consoles(the Pi doesn't have the power to emulate later systems, obviously) and a computer what is, for lack of better term, the size of a box of cigarettes. It also helped massively in that two of my older systems(A1200 and C64) were suffering from data loss due to natural bit rot on magnetic media.
The second is a NAS drive that I use to store backup disk images of every drive in my house using OpenMediaVault. The entire thing cost less than £150, and that includes an 8TB hard disk. I can now effectively lose a hard disk/SSD, and be up and running with minimal data loss in the time it takes to buy a replacement drive.
I can't wait to see what you'll do in the future.

Here we are, after too many years, and a long long way crossed all we together. From the close first moment with a big and slowly increasing community and big good projects within.
I really apreciate your idea of take away to publish the first SBC multipurpouse, so many time ago now. For my hands has passed come generations of it (Zero, 1, 3...), and I am proud of have seen it's evolution from my body. And see good people, sharing their personal and helpful projects for they, and for the community. That has helped to many other people inside and outside of their own countries.
Add to say, that I really apreciate the work behind the "Raspberry Pi Foundation", and what it transmits to us, those of us who live it, and use its products.

Having started on a Spectrum and Commodore Vic 20 and gone onto university studying CS, and a 20+ year career in software, I've had a similar journey. Now having 4 Pi's at home, I've found that simply having the freedom to play with a machine that isn't my main desktop is so much fun. Being able to tear apart the OS and customise it to the extreme, has taught me so much about OS's and other aspects of cumputers which I don't get to explore in my day-to day. I think that the Pi is such an important learning tool for the 21st centuary. Good luck for the next 10.

I got a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B from a very dear friend of mine last month as a gift. I've used it with an Electronics Kit to build all sorts of circuits, ranging from an LED Bar Graph to a Relay Motor to an Infrared Sensor. I was even able to control the RPi's GPIO from my phone using WebIOPi. This is a super cool little computer, and the scope of its capabilities has completely blown me away. I've been blessed to experience computing and electronics with the RPi, and I plan on using it in another project sometime in the near future. Can't wait to see where the platform goes in the next 10 years!
My first computer in the 80s, was an Acorn Electron as well, and then an Apple Macintosh SE-30 in the early 90s. This year in 2022, I am back to basic and have a Raspberry Pi 400 and a Raspberry Pi Pico. I must congratulate the developer and his team that brought to the world a simple and well-built computer for everyone. This computer would change the world for the better. Thank you very much! For the price you can't beat the versatility of the different flavors of the Pi. I've run a Pi3 as my main media center for 5 years now
and it has just worked 24/7. At work I have one glued at the back of my monitor to connect to serial equipment for configuring
industrial electronics and other mundane tasks. Keep up the good work!
Found this video today. Just yesterday I finished my controller project for my Ikea Idasen standing desk. That desk was bloody pricey, yet they apparently couldn't fit a few buttons in the budget to give me height presets. You need a Bluetooth app on your phone for that. Luckily, people had made open source programs to do that from a PC, so I went "hold on, I got this Raspberry Pi Zero W in my drawer, it's a PC, it has Bluetooth, it's got GPIO pins, I'm just gonna make my own button panel!", which is exactly what I did. It's a little crude but boy does it work.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing work. I've used Pis in a bunch of projects. My first Pi allowed me to run a home server for a price I could afford as a teenager. It got me into Linux. I don't think I would be where I am today without my Pi 3B. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

I bought a Raspberry Pi so I could research my studies, today it's been 1 year since I bought a Raspberry Pi 4b 32 bit, and I don't regret it. I want to be able to improve my setup and be able to make a living from programming and be able to make my dreams come true! If, one day, I am going to tell my story one day, the Raspberry Pi will have a special role in that path. Detail: I've been using Raspberry Pi as my main PC since the beginning!

I was lucky to grow up on the Commodore 64, and of course I now run a multitude of raspberry pis for all sorts of things, thank you so much for this I can't express enough just how great of a thing it is you did, and are still doing
This is one of the most wholesome videos I've ever watched and although I have no interest in computing, watching this has made me appreciate how fortunate of a world we live in where stuff like this are easily accessible and can just create new passions in people.
It just amazes me how this small thing can fit in the palm of my hand, doesn’t consume a lot of power and doesn’t break anyones bank. This definitely has inspired a generation of programmers.
My first computer was an Acorn Atom, and more than 40 years later I have a couple of Raspberry Pis helping me to do some experimentation, helping me learn new programming languages and techniques. I can't imagine life without. Best thing ever!!

You hit the mark so well. A raspberry pi was my main computer for some years as a kid, and when it got replaced by a hand-me-down laptop it turned into a server for me. I mean how awesome is that? What 13 year old get the option of running their own server? Both of my parents barely touched tech and where late adopters of things like mobile phones and smart phones, but the raspberry pi platform pared with youtube gave me everything I needed to really learn, play, and tinker as much as I wanted. I got to enjoy a lot of retro games too on the platform. I mostly played a selection of nes games and I also played quake 3. I'm still blown away that my pi 2 could handle playing quake 3 online a smooth frame rate.
Even still I use my old raspberry pi as a light server device. I can't believe that thing after all these years still works, and I can't believe how computationally capable and low power draw that thing is.
I was one of those waiting up in the wee small hours to get my hands on one of the original Pi’s and contributing to crashing the websites.
I couldn’t imagine not having a Pi now, I have at least 10 around the house doing various things from running homebridge to TVHeadend. Thank you so much!

I was lucky. Back in the 80's I saved my pocket money and bought a ZX80. Soldered it up and I was hooked on computing.
Over the years I had the opportunity to use/own ZX81, Spectrum, Dragon 32, Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Commodore 64 and Mactintish and well as regular PC's.
At school though there was an issue. If you were in the top sets computing wasn't an option. So I left school and took an apprenticeship in engineering.
Fast forward 10 years and I quit work to study for 6 months (UMIST Manchester - thanks for believingin me Dr. Brunn). Computing had took off in engineering and I needed to get a foundation in CAD/CAM.
My career changed. I was now a setter/operator/programmer of CNC machinery.
Obviously when Raspberry Pi launched I was an early purchaser. I now have a collection doing all sorts of cool stuff (SatNOGS Station, 3d printer monitor, Christmas decorations etc.).
Nowadays I program robotic optical scanners in metrology for an automotive manufacturer but still wander where I would be if computing at school had been an option.
My first experience with operating systems and code in general was on the a Pi,
Now I'm in school for game design and coding.
Without the Pi I dont think I would've gone this way in life

The raspberry pi series is my favourite computer of all times. I have used computers since I was a kid, and ended up doing a PhD in computer science, but the raspberry pi is the machine that had the most influence on me. It got me into physical computing, electronics, robotics, etc...
The raspberry pi also is what I would have needed as a teen to fulfill my dreams back then. And thanks to it, I was able to satisfy past me :)
Now it is a major component of my teaching (my robots and many other projects that I use to teach computer science, technology, engineering ...

Rasspberry pi actually got me into programming and made me fall in love with what I do and learn as of now. I still have my model B+ rasspbery pi and I still love it to this day ! thank you for all of this !
Growing up in my household we had the Amstrad CPC 464 and the Atari XE computers. Me and my brother would sit there for hours writing programmes in basic that we had got out of computer magazines and books from the time. And I wrote a few programmes and games when I was at senior school, but even though I had a joy for it and some experience, The school didn’t really push IT as they should have and I didn’t end up taking it any further. I preordered the first raspberry pi and it definitely re-inspired me to get back into computing and learn some python programming for robots with my son. And I am now in a senior position in the technology company I work for leading digitalisation work streams and part of a team developing applications. Thanks to Eben and the team for bringing this absolutely necessary piece of technology to the world.
I Had just build my own computer a few months before the raspberry pi and was really new and getting into the hobby of computing. I still remember my mum talking to me about this £25 small computer and we had a look online and i asked if we could pre-order one and to my surprise she said yes. When it arrived i was hooked, getting raspbian set up, little bit of overclocking, seeing what a 25 quid computer could do. Very soon my school opened an after school computing club where we would tinker with old Machines see what we can get running. (I still remember someone trying to get one of the first builds of Android for x86 booting on a pentium 4.) but i was the first with a raspberry pi and i brought it in and everyone wanted a slice. by next year they introduced a computer Science course.
My first pc got me on the PCMR train... My first pi got me on track for my career

I was 16 (now 18) when I first bought a Raspberry PI kit and it was the best thing I owned, i spent weeks customizing my experience on it , turned it into a Media Player, A Emulation Station , a Firewall and alot more , i still own that raspberry Pi and it still works as intended

My Raspberry Pi, kicks off more conversation than my gaming PC, and the easy of a retro gaming experience, has gotten them into the hands of my very blue collar coworkers. I’m completely blown away, at the popularity your machines have gained. I’m excited to see where this goes from here.
Wonderful intro. I got into computing in 1981 when I built a single board computer based on the Z80 processor running at 1Hz so I could trace all clock cycles. I had a 8 byte memory box made of wood, 3.5mm (8x8 ) headphone jacks and pluggable diodes. As I moved through my next computer the second hand ZX81 (love of my life at the time), I had learnt Machine Code. Got into Engineering to work on IBM PCs with floppy discs identifying me as ‘the guy who knows more’ and then to my horror arrived the Windows mouse driven platform enabling everyone to use the PC. 😂 I now have several RPis and tinker in both HW and Software, more so in NLP.

Thank y'all for all the work you've done! Playing around with a Raspberry Pi is what helped me to stick out engineering after a rough freshman year. It helped to show me how much fun engineering can be. My capstone project which finished off my bachelor's in engineering was built around two Raspberry Pi's!

I came from the ZX days and agree completely, this was my gateway into a career of computers, mostly through the lens of design with the occassional dip into programming. I have the ZX on display in my office and several Raspi4's in my network cabinet. Thanks for creating such a great machine.

Video games got me into computing. I always wanted to know how to make whatever I wanted. It used to be to make games, but then I just wanted to make things that were fun in any way or just looked cool.
I own a dozen pis (from the original A to the 4) and I thank you all for creating these nifty little boards. I love the platform.

It feels kind of surreal looking back to when I had placed my pre-order for the very first Raspberry Pi which was a struggle at the time due to web traffic causing the websites to crash, fast forward to now and we now have a whole range of different models as well as other stuff such as the RP2040 microcontroller. When I was around 8/9 (in 2012/2013) I remember watching click with my dad, we used to watch it ever Sunday morning to see what was the latest tech. I remember someone mentioning this raspberry pi and I took a lot of interest, my dad later brought me one (Raspberry pi (c) 2011.12) because I took so much interest and ever since then ive been making little projects, I've taken this more seriously in the last couple of years and am about to go to uni to study computing. I can say that without the rpi I would not be in the position I am today and would most likely not be so interested in this topic. Thank you.

Wonderful story. I also started my programming journey with old computers. My first PC was an Intel 286 IBM. I was hooked as soon as I first booted it up and started typing commands. As a programmer and a computer enthusiast I can honestly say that Raspberry Pi is a very special thing for me. I have used it on commercial and personal projects. Hello: so i share my story, I was in college, we liked to program robots and other similar things, the problem was if you wanted something smaller than a laptop, we had to get an industrial computer that was not cheap, or you could get a router and reprogram it but each time a router broked down if you did not have a similar arm chipped router you have to start all over again, so one day someone said it will create a small computer it names will be raspberry pi ok. The first pi i bought after testing, i bought to collage It was so popular that i got a day later back to my hand. When some of my relative kids reach 12 I buy them a Raspberry pi zero. (sorry for my broken English)

I was born 4 years later than Eben (in 1982), and I also had an Acorn Electron and a BBC-B growing up, followed by an Amiga 500 😁
Perhaps notably, I didn’t move on from there to game consoles (though I definitely spent a lot of time playing games!), but to the PC (486-DX, then a Pentium II 233Mhz IIRC). I stuck with Windows until I was lured to the Apple side in 2009, by a combination of the Mac labs at university in previous years, and then by the iPod-iPhone-Mac slippery slope 😂
I was never a programmer, but I loved figuring out how systems worked - mastering them, knowing how to use and fix them and how to best solve a given problem with technology, etc. It seems to make perfect sense now, given my 15 year career thus far in systems administration and architecture, in a range of different jobs and specialities! But I took a four year detour into a psychology degree first 🤷🏻♀️
I was familiar and comfortable with things like the command line (I remember the days when you could only launch into Windows by first typing a command into DOS!) and various config files (autoexec.bat and various *.ini files, etc). I don't remember the details of what I did now, but back in the 90s at school, I figured out how to override the restrictions in place to allow internet access only during lunch hour and specific IT classes in specific locations by "hacking" trumpet winsock, so mostly what I remember is my sense of smugness and satisfaction at being able to access the internet at school anytime, and from any school location with a computer in it! 😄
I'm still not a programmer and don't know any programming languages, but I'm slowly moving in the direction of becoming very comfortable with scripting - I mean, it's impossible to be any kind of useful Windows*/Office 365/MS stack sysadmin now without Powershell, so I've been gradually learning/skilling up/teaching myself over the last 5 years especially. I'm at the point where I could definitely see the benefit of learning JavaScript and Python at least, so maybe this is another gradual slippery slope to my eventual evolution into becoming a developer! 🤨
* (while I've been exclusively a Mac/iOS user at home for going on 13 years, I'm still vastly more competent at Windows systems at a professional fully in-depth level... identity crisis maybe...)
I do wonder how my life and career would have progressed if I went down the console route instead of tinkering more with PCs and getting into various kinds of technical support, and deepening my knowledge and skills from there. Also, I've never owned a Raspberry Pi, and I'm not sure why - but I *love* that they exist, and it's so great to hear about the positive change they brought into getting students and young people interested in "computers" at a deep level again! 😃
It's funny how "computers" went from being a niche interest for only certain types of nerds (👋🏻), to being something that everyone takes for granted and interacts with almost all day every day, but without being forged in that lower level crucible of having to first become knowledgeable and skilled in that area before being able to get as much out of it. Things like the Raspberry Pi that bring some of that back I think are essential for harnessing people's interest, and keeping one pipeline of developing the kind of mindset that leads to continued advancements in computing 👏🏻

I have three Pi's. I use one as a server. Thank you for this wonderful machine. it is one of the few pure good things in the world. God save the Pi.
Your vision lives ! And not just for the device you made but also for the mistakes and therefore continuous improvements that have resulted in the RPi4's. And thirdly for the inspiration and how to think about solving similar issues in future ! Thank you !

Almost as exciting and inspiring as when I saw the Science of Cambridge advert for the MK14 Microcomputer in 1977. I saved up 3 months pocket money to get my hands on my first computer. The MK14 was a forerunner to the later Sinclair ZX80.
Well done to the Raspberry Pi team. I am really in love with the Pi Zero 2W.

I started with programming before the first Raspberry Pi was announced, yet somehow, I still had to have it. Now I have several, and I use them rather rarely for anything serious, but they also give me this strange joy whenever I have a chance to use one. It's amazing how something so small and inexpensive can be so powerful in times when we're used to $2000 smartphones, which have fairly similar performance and are even much larger than a full-sized Raspberry Pi.
The Pi is one of my favorite devices, it's so versatile I've made tons of things using nothing but the Pi, and SD card, and a keyboard
As a fellow hobbyist, I also grew up in the era of Sinclairs, Trash 80s, Commie 64s and Atari 400/800s. As well as the Apple ][ up to my own //e and //gs. I graduated from highschool in the US in the mid part of the late 80s and got my degree in EE and CS. I have been most impressed with the pi’s and currently own three zero Ws, two 3b+, a 4b and thankfully a zero W 2. I love fiddling with them. Thanks guys. Can’t wait until the chip shortage ends.

Great video. I've been using Pis for more than half my life (since Christmas 2014). My first Pi was the B+ and I now have a collection of seven, including the 4B 4GB, the 3B+, 3A+, 2 Zero Ws and a Zero 2W. The Pi was my first computer, and even though I now have a more powerful PC, they still hold a special place in my heart, as well as being used for countless projects. I'm looking forward to where the next 10 years takes us.
