Nikon should make a Z-mount FF box camera with internal REDCODE. A fullframe with AF and Nikon glass would be awesome.

That would be nice to see from Nikon, it might be too early to see REDCODE RAW on Nikon cameras. I’ve been thinking the Z8 could be a nice platform to start from, build it to be similar to the C70/BMPCC without an EVF(option to add), freeing up space for a larger screen, reduced buttons on the rear as most functions could be run from screen and had a slim style fan like FX3/30. Having internal ND filters would be nice if they can do that while not making the body too thick. Now, a box design with a flip out screen and a movable grip, like the Canon XC10 or that remote handle control Nikon made would be interesting.

With RED’s acquisition, the opportunity exists for Nikon to add a new style “cinema” (device with a fan) body to their hybrid lineup, providing a less expensive option for their video shooters. Would this style of camera from Nikon be something you would be interested in or would you prefer something styled like the BMPCC 4/6K in a hybrid styled body with a large flip forward screen? Personally, I like the Sony FX30 body style and wouldn't mind if Nikon evolved the Z8's body to something similar, with larger screen that can flip forward. Share your thought on what kind of cinema style camera you would like Nikon to create, that is priced for mirrorless users, not professional movie makers.

Somewhat true, the RED cameras are on a different level and price point. Having something based around the 24 MP Z6 II (III) and priced under $3K. That Canon XC10 was a pretty decent sized video camera but video wasn't a big thing for many hybrid shooters. RED is going to be for video/film making use.

I'd like to see something like the BM pocket in Z mount ... 🦘

Hey Roy, I’ve been talking about Nikon making something like that for some time now. Although, I would like the screen to be able to flip forward as well. The main issue with the BMPCC is power, that thing eats batteries like crazy. If they can make whatever design they come up with, can use the EN-EL18D or something to fit in the grip with as much power to record for a while with a larger brighter screen. You should be able to get good runtime with just the camera as is, without rigging up an external battery.

Is this a joke? Nikon and Red are one, and Red was the front runner in the 'box-camera' line-up, followed by Canon then Sony. The PYXIS is a weak excuse of a camera and any one who wants to follow its route is heading for disaster.

Thanks for the comment. The idea is for a video focused camera from Nikon, at a price point within the hybrid camera range but in a different form factor from mirrorless cameras. RED’s box cameras are in a totally different price range. The PYXIS has features that appeal to many at a not too expensive price point (unless you add that viewfinder) compared to other video focused “box” cameras. A Nikon system I’m referencing, isn’t going to compete with RED or other high level cinema cameras but, it would compete with Canon (R5 C), Panasonic (S5 IIX, B1HS) and Sony (FX3/30), in the hybrid camera plus, space. Hope that helps.

Let’s hope not. Most would prefer something on the Nikon side that doesn’t carry the RED price tag. For me, I like the FX3/30 style, they could do something like that for the Z6 III companion camera.

@@waynerm002 the fx3 is a horrible ass design for me let alone the sensor, I need stuff for production scenarios not point and shoot settings

@@MachinaExplorer Ok, I get you. For your kind of work, I guess you’ll want a RED camera. I’m not sure we will see a joining of tech anytime soon, from both brands. Nikon I feel will still focus on the hybrid side of things while improving RED software, streamlining their build process and adding cinema lens, maybe Z mount based. The FX3/30 style and price can be a good starting point for hybrid crossover shooters, who aren’t ready for the price the professional cinema gear brings.
