    Really enjoyed this episode.
Not only did I learn a lot, but I found that simply listening to a civil discussion about things good for the soul very, very refreshing.
Glory to God for it all.

Greetings and peace to you from Alaska. Thank you for taking the time to share with us so thoughtfully. In all the vast grandeur and microcosms of wonder in my home of Alaska, I realized there is so little of my fellowships woven into the natural places. In the whole state I can only think of one shrine in a beautiful setting, the seaside Shrine of St. Therese near Juneau, Alaska. I have never been there.
I have my little trailside prayer perches, along coast and cliff. But there is no tradition for them being others’ too. Summer church camp grounds are in pretty places but are not venerated or allowed pilgrimage-like visits. They have buildings that dail to weave natural beauty in them, relying on the free landscape without. Churches are largely superficially remodeled office buildings that close the blinds to nature outside so the PowerPoint can be visible. I can’t think of a local Christian fellowship who has a tradition praying/meditating outside by a natural feature. How to change this?
Reading Kristin Lavransdotter introduced me the idea of petition, worship and penance across beautiful landscapes and shrines/churches.

Hi @alaskapainter, I don't know where in Alaska you live, but there is a tradition that goes on pilgrimage: the Orthodox of Alaska. You've got saints of Alaska: Herman, Innokenti, Peter the Aleut, Olga. You've got Spruce island and the area around. Take a look at this movie: th-cam.com/video/O--6uVTVG9M/w-d-xo.html

Great conversation Fr, thank you so much! Paul is great and very pleasant to listen to.
My understanding is that Osmund was "eastern" and that being "headless" referred to him not being "under" the German Church. My guess is Irish or Russian.
I think he baptised Olofs daughter (St Anna of Novgorod) as well who later married into Russian royalty. And I'm thinking that Osmund might have had something to do with that if he was Russian himself I mean.

      Thanks for listening in!
It has long been a fascinating theory that bishop Osmund was "eastern", but no one holds that view seriously now, as far as I know. Consider the following: Kievan Rus was baptised 988, just some years prior to Olof's and Anna's own baptism in Sweden (around 1005 A.D.). Eventhough we can't deny eastern influences (there are in fact many), we can't assume any organized missionary activity from the East. The reason is that it seems highly unlikely that the early growing church in Kiev was mature enough to send missionaries.
Adding to that is that Osmund was saint Sigfrid's protegé, and Sigfrid was from England. The strongest archeological and litteral evidence suggest that he was from England, and the reason he is called "acefalous" is that he was, indeed not under the German church, but the Irish/English - and those two churches were fighting over the influence over Scandinavia up untill the 1200's. The German author thus called Osmund "acefalous" almost as a slur.
I have THE book on Osmund (By Janet Fairweather), but I have not had the time to read it just yet.
      God bless!

I have a question about people living in muslim countries, as you might know open conversion is a no no under islamic law and have serious consequences not only for the convert but the church in such places, I left similar comments in other channels but got no answer, is there a solution prepared for such cases by ortodox church? not being able to attend church or having a spiritual father and in short not being able to have any connection to church is going to leave you with only internet and we know all the issues with that, essentially you are separate and if you are in a dark place as many are you can't ask for help as a seek person supposed to ask for according to bible in order to find healing, reading bible is the only refuge but as I mentioned some need help with their passions and are not making progress on their own, you can't be confident and accept your situation if you are trapped in dark habits. please let me know the church perspective on this situation. thank you very much
