It is a gift to put together an informative review, colour it by personal opinion, make it entertaining and still remain kind to the author! Thank you, Robert. I took my notes diligently today. So far, from the books mentioned, I own only Paul Huson's Mystical Origins of the Tarot, but with upcoming Christmases and birthdays, my shelf collection will quietly grow!
It seems I’ve stumbled upon the best tarot channel on TH-cam!! Great review, so profound! I already have the Mystical Origins and the Taschen one. Good to know I’m on the right track 😊
Great to listen to and I am so glad someone else has finally mentioned that we were not living in some Church-mob ruled continent for the past several centuries... I think that's a rhetoric though that helps sell books and get the activists going rather than accurately reflect history... I would recommend delving into more Marseille and Thoth texts as they give a slightly different perspective to the origins of the system. Sometimes the history books are too focused on the RWS strain... just my tuppence worth. Thanks so much for your investigation and for making your way through some painful written English 🙃
Thanks for the appreciation! Well I have in fact just started to branch out - I read Jodorowsky's Marseille book... It's well-written in its way but also quite nightmarish. It has put me off Marseille writing for a bit I think. But we soldier on. The RWS is such a good, functional deck if you just want to do a lot of reading, but of course it is not the whole story. 🙂
THIS is such an incredible and insightful and very helpful video, Robert! THANK YOU! Such great points you made in this video, and I especially was nodding along as you talked about "A History of The Occult Tarot"! Agree 100%!
@@teatarot4557 Beautiful facsimile deck and guide, book difficult for me to assess as a newb, quite good I'd say and probably for relative newbies. Very foncy. How frustrating that they didn't have a copy for perusal.
agree on your top two books , in opposite order , but i am a complete skeptic of the tarot powers of divination, yet i read well and have weekly on line readings for friends , reading in the current era really requires learning a basic system and meanings look forward to you having a discussion on those books. nice job rather agree on your reviews.
Thanks. I find your comment very interesting. I think one can indeed be skeptical and yet read tarot effectively. When I started out - age 19 - I was a complete non-believer but I read tarot very well.
Hello, thank you for this interesting video 😊. For lovers of beautiful books richly illustrated with rare historical Tarots, I recommend, in French « Histoire du tarot - Origines - Iconographie - Symbolisme », by Isabelle Nadolny 🥰
Oh, Luc! I am waiting (rather impatiently) for the English Version of Isabelle's Book!😍 I remember she asked me a little while ago whether she could use my photos of the Visconti Cards I took while in Italy last year - could you kindly check for me, if she did? Big ask, I know! 🥰
@@musingsbymascha Hi Mascha, it's great to see you here, outside your excellent channel 🤗 I've tried three times in the last two days to reply to you, but each time my message has been deleted, I guess because of the links I entered. I hope this time it works. Regarding Isabelle Nadolny's book, the first edition is from 2018, which is the one I have. A new revised edition was published in 2022. Unfortunately, I don't own this new edition, but she has a website called tarot-paris. If you select Histoire du Tarot and click on a logo, you can see the pages that have been updated in the new edition, in pdf format. Isabelle Nadolny is also working with Emmanuelle Iger on a restoration of the Minchiate. I hope these explanations, which I would have liked to be more complete, will help you. See you soon ! 😊
@@lucd9 thank you SO much for responding and your patience! 🙏💙 This message has come through.. I’ve had it a few times now, when leaving a comment and my message not appearing (I think it may be due to the word limit TH-cam has or the links). And thank you for this information about Isabelle’s website and the upcoming restoration of Minchiate. 🙏💛 So far I only have one Minchiate & it’s the Florentine from Marco Benedetti. 😊
Thank you so much! Do you know "Secrets of the Waite-Smith Tarot: The True Story of the World's Most Popular Tarot" by Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin? As far as I understood, they tried to connect PCS's experiences at the theatre and their designs there with her design of the Tarot cards. Not yet read it myself, but thought it an interesting approach? I will absolutely buy your book, so keep us posted about it!
Hi Robert, I have just finished reading The Devil's Picturebook, by Paul Huson and I'm looking for my next book. Would you say that The Mystical Origins, also by Huson, has good, useful card meanings, or is it more focused on the history of tarot?
@@BluesBrogio Hi! Mystical Origins has a very interesting round-up of card-meanings, showing how they evolve over the centuries. I find it extremely helpful. It also has a lot of history. I find it generally more helpful than Devil‘s Picturebook. R.

Thanks Robert, you have saved me having to venture near most of those books, however I have enjoyed Paul Huson's Mystical Origins of the Tarot.
Yes, Huson is really helpful, isn't he? x

Have you seen the Taschen RWS book & Deck?
I saw it on a shelf in Watkins - shrink-wrapped unfortunately! Have you seen it?
