  • How do you time travel to all of the milestone moments in Tony Baxter‘s nearly five-decade career in one hour?
    You don’t.
Join us on July 14th as we continue our journey with the most famous theme park and attraction designer in the world in a special two-hour adventure full of untold stories and infinite wisdom!
PASSENGER 25: Forty-seven-year Disney Imagineer, Disney Legend, Thea Lifetime Achievement recipient, and Main Street Window honoree responsible for creating some of Disney’s most beloved parks and attractions, Tony Baxter.
For nearly five decades, Tony Baxter has been the most famous theme park designer on earth. Starting as an ice cream scooper at Disneyland when he was 17, Tony moved north to WED Enterprises to join first generation Imagineers for the design of Epcot Center and to share his model for what became Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Over the decades, Tony’s inspired intuition, artistic talents, endless creativity, and unequalled attention to detail allowed him to create more successful Disney attractions than any Imagineer before, including Disneyland Paris, Disneyland’s New Fantasyland, Indiana Jones & the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Star Tours, and Journey into Imagination.

Absolutely love Tony Baxter and I'm devastated about the destruction of Splash Mountain. I'll never forgive them for that.

Likewise... There was a beautiful nuance and magic surrounding that ride, and it will never be replicated.

I can vividly remember my first experience with Splash Mountian. It was exactly like what Tony talked about. I was terrified and truly thought that I was going to die. I couldn't get my hands dry while holding onto the inner railing. What a sense of pride I had coming into the room with all of the singing characters!

    He really gets it.

I think this is so moving because it is the closest we can come to hearing the spirit of Walt speak in real time. Tony truly embodies the "stated "values of the company. I've never thought this before but I see a resemblance between Tony and Walt. Thanks again!

Started tearing up whenever Tony told the story of the 10 year old kid going on Splash for the first time.
Edit: For context, I remember I used to want to be an Imagineer so I could give those kind of memories to people.

Tony restores my faith in Disney Parks, hope they listen to him... Everything he says is something I've seen and thought about in recent years, especially with it becoming "too literal".
Walt Disney had this term to describe what they did in animation, it was "The Plausible Impossible" and every great theme park attraction they did fits that idea. The Enchanted Tiki Room is plausible but impossible, so is the Haunted Mansion, crossing that threshold from "reality" into "fantasy" is what set Disney's Theme parks apart from a stranded Amusement Park full of steal roller-coasters. That was the reason our family drove down I-95 from Philadelphia, which is surrounded with stuff like Hershey Park, Dorney Park, Knobels, Dutch Wonderland, Sesame Place, Six Flags, and all the stuff along the Jersey shore... we went to Disney World because for the unique experiences you couldn't get anyplace else

Yes! You certainly said it perfectly! What Disney world is like no other, but if they keep re-doing or getting rid of classics, then it will be another six flags! They just are ruining the magic little bit here and there. The phone is why I will not go back. I just can't be on it in the hot heat all day long!!!!!

@@meganruchwatercolors7186 This American Heartland park that's going to be built in Oklahoma sound like Magic Kingdom of the 1970's and 80's. It's even going to be open for the countries 250th birthday, the way MK was opened for the Bicentennial. WDW is slowly becoming a pop culture shopping mall with the terrible ride capacity and people standing in line to buy popcorn buckets, at least Six Flags has rides ...that you can actully ride with paying extra or entering some "boarding pass lottery". Disney really feels like they lost their way, and these guys in Oklahoma know it

Tony Baxter you are amazing and truly talented beyond imagination and you are the only one who got Walt's vision!!! I am so sick about Splash mountain being torn down. Disney company after you retired has just ruined every single thing at Disney.
I am not going back to Disney World, the MAGIC is gone!!! I will someday make it to Disney Tokyo because they get Walt's vision.

Wow! What a "show." It was all over the place in terms of content, but I loved it. Hearing Tony's insider/imagineer perspective on all of these things is just wonderful. Tony's comments about DL vs WDW in terms of scale and the number of attractions available in close proximity to each other I completely agree with, especially after spending significant time at WDW. I love the quick transitions from land to land at DL. I was unaware that the Rocket Rods ride was based on Test Track technology. I know Radiator Springs Racers is, IMHO, a home run that blows Test Track out of the water in every way.

Loved this interview so much... the parts about working with the OG Imagineers, the importance of staging with simplicity and clarity, the unexpected twists and turns where sincere creativity can take you... it applies to so much more than creating rides. This very much lights a fire in the belly. Thank you Tony Baxter and everyone at this channel for this interview!

I love Tony’s comment about Galaxy’s Edge locking into one story, the sequels, and suffering for it. He’s especially right because they did that with Star Tours 2.0!! It’s basically a Time Machine!! You could run in a pod race from Episode 1 immediately after seeing Darth Vader from the original trilogy then fly over Crait from The Last Jedi. I mean, the attraction is all over the Star Wars map!!

I really respect Tony, but I will never view him the same after finding out he’s the reason they removed walt and Marc’s beloved bear band from Walt’s park. I know it still exists, but it’s not the same :(
