    Quick tip with RTSS, if you have the game running, you can hold the left ctrl key while clicking add, and it'll show a list of all graphical applications currently open. Then you can just select the game exe there. Just a slightly faster/easier method

    Being bottlenecked by a 75hz monitor isnt that bad, i use RTSS to cap my frames at 70fps and i also overclocked my GTX1650 Super OC by +150 core clock and +525 memory clock. Most my games run stable at 70fps, including Tarkov and Arma 3 (depending on server of course). Also i use gsync+fastsync instead of gsync+vsync on some titles that has doublerendering issues, most noticeable is Tarkov, which locks your FPS to exactly half the refresh rate of your monitor when using scopes on distances, no matter what your FPS cap is if gsync+vsync is enabled.

IDK how about you other Users with an 4 TV and 60 Hz, but it´s always over the years with all of my 4k TV´s. I know the difference. I owned a 144 Hz Monitor last year and the tear screaning was gone and I was able to use more Hz and more fps without it. Unfortunetly I can´t handle the downgrade by Size considered to an 65 ° Zoll Tv. So yeah that´s why I arranged me with an vsync Life. I would really wonder if someone with same specs of his 4k TV runs smoother all of his games by not using vsync. For me it´s the only method to run my games smooth. Maybe someday I have money for an HDMI 2.1 Tv with 120 Hz and can achieve more than vsync logged with 60 fps, but for now not possible. Some People will say your 4k TV is to cheap for more. You could of mentioned FastSync where if you are able to achieve at least double the frame rate or more of your refresh rate, haveing FastSync on will let you have lower imput lag as well as no tearing. It will always stay at a multiple of your refresh rate, this workes really well on lower refresh rate monitors like 60 Hz, the frame rates possible are 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 etc. It still has a use on higher refresh rate moniotors like 240 Hz for games like CS:GO where really high frame rates are more easily achieved, frame rates possible will be 240, 480, 720, 980 etc.
    FastSync basically keeps updeating the "buffer" with the newest frame while waiting for your monitor to refresh, so if for example you have a 60 Hz monitor but can easily play a game at 240 fps+, it will update the "buffer 4 times before sending that last frame to your monitor at the correct time.

So I'm playing at 4k, and my fps is hovering spiking a lot between like 57 - 60 (My TV is 60hz). Even if I lowered the resolution I was still getting stuttering. However from this video I discovered about RTSS frame capping, I set a 60 frame cap and it magically smoothed out the frame rate! Like I was surprised cuz my settings in HZD is 60hz anyway and the game can do 60fps. But setting an FPS cap on RTSS just solved it lol. I would also suggest trying out in different games

    Not sure if anyone knows how to help with this, but despite setting an FPS cap, I end up just seeing an even further FPS drop. For example, if I average 120-140 FPS, then set my cap to 100 to be safe, I then start seeing drops down to the 80-100 range, even if my FPS didn’t drop that low before I capped it. Setting the cap even lower, will then have even lower drops. I can’t seem to get a locked frame rate.
    Update: So I’ve been looking at suggestions everywhere. And there was one random Reddit post that suggested turning off Windows Built-in Game Mode. I tried that and it actually fixed my performance issues. I’m not sure why that was what’s hindering my games. However, I’m now able to set an FPS limit and it doesn’t repeatedly drop lower.

      When you set an FPS cap on your Nvidia (or AMD) control panel, if you put for example 120fps because you have a 120hz monitor, you will still see screen tearing in some scenarios where you are looking at something easy to render like a wall, and it's because it's hard for the GPU to "guess" how fast it has to render those frames to not get past the limit, and when it happens you see the screen tearing.
      When you are using the frame limit with After burner and Riva Tuner it sets an even lower cap limit to your settings to avoid this.
      So if you put 120fps, it's probably trying to keep it around 105, 107fps to avoid going over the limit

    @panjno Overall, great video, but maybe you can clarify something for me. My understanding of how frame time relates to smooth gameplay is different than what you're claiming here. Maybe you can let me know if the below is correct or if I'm not understanding something.
    If your monitor is 144 hz, there is 1/144 sec between each frame being displayed. 1/144 sec = 6.94 ms. When a game is hard-capped to 144 fps, and you're getting a solid 144 fps, but your frame times are varying between 5.0-6.7 ms, that is fine and won't affect the smoothness. As long as the frame time is LESS than 1sec/fps-which in this case is 1sec/144fps = 6.94 ms-then you will experience perfectly smooth performance. When you tell the GPU the hard cap is 144, as long as you can get the frame rendered in less than that amount of time, it will report the frame time as exactly 1sec/fps even if the frame times are actually less than that, and actually vary (because in truth not every frame takes the full time to render). In other words, as long as the frame times never spike above 1sec/fps, you will experience perfectly smooth play.
    Do you think I'm wrong about this? If so why? Thanks.

    The FPS cap with RTSS mixed with frametime monitoring is the best piece of advice I have come across.
    Never knew a lot of stuttering issues were from a FPS cap being far too high and you should adjust until a smooth result is found through monitoring.
    Of course, this also implies the game you are playing is optimised as this won’t work on a game that runs awful regardless of FPS cap.

Here's a list of display Hz and fps caps that would achieve that: 50, 62.5, 100, 125, 200, 250. You also need to make sure your fps and display are synced.

    • @thachester
      @thachester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@kaktus8129 It's actually really simple. Your monitor refreshs the screen at a set rate. So if you have a 144hz monitor the screen refreshes 144 times per second. Your gpu then renders frames. Ideally you want your fps to match your refresh rate. Things like tearing/stuttering/input lag all are caused because the games fps isn't the same as the monitor refresh rate. USB has what's called polling rate, basically how fast the mouse position is sent to the pc. The faster the polling rate the faster the update position is sent. WHat the gentlemen above is stating is when your polling rate, fps, and refresh rate are all running at the same rate or divisable by each other it will give you a display clear of tearing/stuttering/ and input latency.

      This is rubbish, mouse polling is independent of monitor display refresh rate.
      What mouse is polling is the surface you are moving the mouse on DPI x Hz, not the monitor.
      Monitor just displays the position of the mouse and all you need is stable and low latency of displayed frames.
      Basically mouse movement polling Is independed of monitor refresh rate.

  • @KryssN1
    @KryssN1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I disagree what matters is low latency, why this trick works is because in GPU when working above roughly 94-96% can have divation in frame latency.
    E.g. you want 150fps cap, if it means your GPU is limited to below 95%. It has potential to decrease latancy and any further decrease in fps sure adds stable framerate. But it can introduce more latancy.
    It depends on engine, CSGO and Valorant would set cap at GPU utilization.
    Fortnite and Apex would set it for stable framerate.
    Like explained by Hardware Unboxed.
    What matters is GPU utilization.
