@willvr4 I find it funny how you claim this food is Greek, yet the name itself is not Greek but Turkish. I looked it up in the dictionary, and what I found is that "dolma" means "stuffed," which makes sense for this dish, while it doesn't have any meaning in Greek. Even etymologically, it is not Greek. Yet, here I am seeing middle eastern cuisine being claimed as Greek. @@kristaps5296 I'm looking it up and it says chicken and lamb are common, especially in Muslim areas, while the pork version is specifically Greek. Nothing about fries being a necessity, though they're often shown with it. Though sources also seem to wildly differ on how old these things are, giving origins as disperate as Alexander's army to the 1920s, and that makes a huge difference because Alexander wouldn't have had any understanding of potatoes. Or tomatoes for that matter. Both of those come from the Americas.
Love that your trying different Greek foods but I have never really heard of a steak souvlaki. In Greece mainly pork, Lamb and chicken are consumed. Would like to see Korean food especially spicy dishes
In Boston Mass we have greek american fast food etc, the gyros are usually with cream, feta, spinach, carne asada type meat etc. I havent tried much else though.
Noone eats avgolemono like that in Greece. We put it on another version of dolmades but instead of green leaf known as vine leafs we use cabbage leaves. We name it lachanodolmades. And btw the pita bread needs more cooking and you should cook it on coals to be tasty soft and crunchy.
Taste budds differ in cultures and lifetimes and I am pretty sure if you're used to a certain amount of seasoning and spices, every dish that doesn't include them tastes "bland" ....

Avgolemono could be complimented well with some Tabasco. Also, there is a dish that is literally eating milk, It is called Trajana. Though it is also part of the cuisine of most balkan and middle-eastern countries.
I am confused. First she said the Tzatziki tastes like cheese and then she said the Dolmadakia are spicy, then they mention again cheese on the pita gyro, which is not common to find in there. And what the heck is steak souvlaki??? Souvlaki is usually made out of pork and sprinkled after grilling with salt, oregano and lemon. Finally the baklava looked dry as hell. Either they have served them weird, unauthentic versions of the food or they have weird taste buds or both.
The Greek spanakopita can easily compete with any kind of street food around the world and beat vastly the most of them, it's that damn good. But gyros for me is the king of street food.

A few notes, as a Greek. Gyros is completely different from doner. I see this everywhere today, where gyros is depicted as a souvlaki wrap with doner meat. This is not Greek food. Grilled steak souvlaki is not served with rice, ever, anywhere. I don't know where you got this idea from. Also the grilled souvlaki is small pieces put on the stick, not a whole steak on a stick. Aygolemono soup. Technically there is no such thing. Instead this is a technique we do to add flavor to very specific dishes, without the egg becoming an omelette. You can add aygolemono to a soup or a stock but it is not a soup on it's own. One last thing. To really taste our food, you need to visit Greece. When you do, you will understand why I say that. @@kai-dp6wy It's just the name of a stuffed grape leaf dish with spiced rice and sometimes (but rarely) meat.
I am Arab, and what I often notice is that even though a food name comes from Arabic, WHITE PEOPLE tend to claim Arab food as their own.
@@kai-dp6wy the name is turkish, not greek. this is true for a lot of greek dishes. some of them we took from the greeks, some were ours already but we ended up using the turkish name. 400 years under the ottomans will do that
There you go, the ladies now know how fantastic our food is!!!❤
Noone can change my mind that pita gyro is the ultimate and best street food of this planet.-
That’s random you gave them the soup like, after all the entrees and appetizers. Haha. And of course, it will be the most bland-tasting! 😂 After spanakopita, gyros, souvlaki, dolmas, and tzatziki… I would think soup would be first or second. Would be good with the pita.
It's not supposed to be soup it's supposed to be like a meatball stew, but for some reason they just ordered it without the meatballs.
@Dreikoo Can you please stop spreading wrong information. It is not meant to have meatballs inside, that is another dish.
Those kind of soups are a whole meal. This one is a chicken soup but we make almost the same way a soup with meatballs .
@@Dreikoo Meat ball soup you keep mentioning is called Youvarlakia (γιουβαρλακια, feel free to Google it) completely different dish, the one seen here is Chicken augolemono, (κοτοσουπα αυγολεμονο) i have explained to you on an other comment why they are so many dishes with augolemono..
Opa! Greek food is the best!
Fucking finally!!! As a greek who loves when their country gets recognition this made me really happy !! Αγάπη από την Ελλάδα!!! 🇬🇷
I also want to add that the food In this video is not the most authentic there is no problem with that of course but i just wanted to point out that this is not what you would get if you visit and greece😅
As an Italian person I like very much Greek food!
This is Greek-American food. It’s like having Greek moms try Taco Bell and saying Greek moms try Mexican food lol.
Spot on!
no one in greece eating souvlaki with rice..we used to eat it with fried potatoes..drops of lemon on it..and is smaller and ofc always on coals..greek is 3rd tasty cousine in the world(by travelers voting)
Love your content mamahs!❤❤❤❤
This was a great episode.
I know that yall in the US but jeeeesus the gyros is NOTHING like we have here. 😢
So like...how?
@@BJGvideos
For starters, real gyros is pork. And typically there are fries in the wrap.
@@kristaps5296 That sounds like a regional variant
@@BJGvideos
That's not a regional variant, it's universal. A regional variant is putting tzatziki in it. In some areas they put ketchup and mustard instead.
GYRO let's go!
Love that your trying different Greek foods but I have never really heard of a steak souvlaki. In Greece mainly pork, Lamb and chicken are consumed. Would like to see Korean food especially spicy dishes
I saw it as street food in Athens. Was bad - souvlaki is delicious, but the texture of steak just isn't right.
Lamb souvlaki in greece? Maybe in "easter food" grill-taverns but its not greek
@@pmparda but that would still be a tradition. To be honest, I've seen mutton and goat souvlaki more than lamb
@@SnugglesTheSnuggle in greece?
@@pmparda Ναι, στην Κρήτη
Α έκοψε το αυγολεμονο πατριώτες, βλεπω κομμάτια😆
YAY! you're the Best! Keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The food presented here is not exactly what the Greeks cook at home-take that from a Greek- Imagine if they could try the original recipes..
I think Greeks and Mexicans are similar people... at least I feel this way :) Hello my mexican brothers from an other part of the world!
Where’s Martha?? I miss her reactions lmao
Wish people would stop saying “bland”! It’s just not been saturated in spices and salt or vinegars to completely eliminate the natural flavours.
Taste budds differ in cultures and lifetimes and I am pretty sure if you're used to a certain amount of seasoning and spices, every dish that doesn't include them tastes "bland" ....
Next time please try Tunisian food! Yumyummmmmyyyy so many dishes and snacks to try from!!😁
Me gusta el programma. It gives me a chance to practice my Español and I like all of the abuelas.
Arby’s surprisingly has a pretty good gyro lol of all places the least I would expect to find there
I think these dishes might be 'American' Greek...
Grabbing the whole souvlaki with fork.... Greek Gods are crying right now ...
Οι προφορές με σκότωσαν😭😭αλλά οι κυρίες ήταν αξιαγάπητες! ❤😊
As a greek person Im glad they enjoyed the food. I live in Australia and we have Mexican food here but its probably not entirely authentic
quick notice the dolmades are actually called stuffed grape leaves in english because its a grape leaf with rice in it the spanakopita is actually called a spinach pie in english the souvlaki can be called kebab aswell in english and its traditionaly served with fries pita bread and a bit of salad the gyro is the same thing with those sides plus greek kebabs have a long skewer through the meat so you can eat it without getting your hands dirty , i have never eaten avgolemono soup but i think in english its called egglemon soup our lemon eggdrop soup not sure sorry for the judgement but greeks are pretty judgy but i loved the traditional greek music in the background thats all
Avgolemono could be complimented well with some Tabasco. Also, there is a dish that is literally eating milk, It is called Trajana. Though it is also part of the cuisine of most balkan and middle-eastern countries.
This was cool to watch!
I know its Greek inspired but you have to go to Greece to experiance the real deal and get the authentic flavours. Glad they liked the food.
If you don’t try the food in Greece itself, you’re not going to know the real difference! Everything tastes sooo much better there than other places
Imagine if the had real greek food
Stuffed vine leaves is my favourite
If you like something different with lamp you should try lampriati. Totallly recommend it
You must come to Greece to taste real authentic food
spinach pie is not fried it's baked
The Greek spanakopita can easily compete with any kind of street food around the world and beat vastly the most of them, it's that damn good. But gyros for me is the king of street food.
As a Greek, i can say that is the worst youtube Greek food exhibition i have ever seen 😅. It is almost a parody .
I paused at the beginning of the video to predict that they will mostly love Greek food! I know that I love it (mostly) and my hope is that they will agree with me about one particular dish 🤞
Of course they didn’t try spanakopita ❤
I’m so glad they realize what they’ve been missing out on. It boggles my mind how ppl live in America and haven’t tried every type of cuisine there is to offer! Mediterranean food is S tier! My uncle has lived in Los Angeles of all places 40+ years and just sticks to his rice and beans. I don’t get it but I guess he’s a simple man lol
Same
I want to try everything!
Temple of Artemis was ALSO a wonder!
As a Greek, u guys HAVE TO try TURKISH original Baklava. Also Avgolemono soup is not a thing tbh, more 'giourvalakia', also the Dolmades and Gyros and some others didn't look that good ,but if u eat them in GR its 100 times better (obviously)
Both gyros and souvlaki in greece we eat them only with pork or chicken and statistically we prefer pork
Can these lovely ladies get proper silverware at some point ? LOL
Try portugese food 😊
Love Greek food! 🇬🇷 ❤ delicious 😋
I’m Greek and lettuce doesn’t go in gyros! Latinos and Greeks have a lot in common ! ❤
ami papa le encanta los gyros🥰
Many kisses, the mamas from the video are all lovely.
@Mamahchannel has zero interaction with the fans in the comments. Kinda sucks because the fan base is so loyal!
It's also a channel for entertainment so like... don't be so loyal if all you're looking for is a pin 🤷♀️ just like every channel, they don't really owe you anything
Holaaaaa a mis mamás favoritas ❤
Greece has more in common with Latin American countries than some other European countries.
Ojalá supieran que existen empanadas en todo el mundo 😅🙄
Dolmades are light and healthy food
