    Helena BC’s body language in any interview always projects that she is slightly bored with all this nonsense. She always seems perfectly comfortable, totally confident in not being the one the attention is on and without that neediness for recognition many in her chosen field project. Like “yes I’ll do the interview, but I’m not going to perform like I’m in a circus”. I could believe that at heart she’s a bit of an introvert who lets the extrovert out mainly through her work. Totally comfortable with her own company, who finds the fame an unfortunate side effect of her profession.
    She also does that upper class thing where regardless of their surroundings, they refuse to ever seem impressed or over-whelmed (or even whelmed) , it’s all something they’ve seen before.That total confidence that comes with old money. I’m not sure if it’s a demeanour I’d pick up in anywhere but England - but then, only in England can you be penniless but upperclass, or a billionaire but working class & common. In some it can come off as arrogance- somehow in HBC it’s just fascinatingly sexy.

Each role he's had is so very different from the last. All are masterfully done. Thank you Tobias for exceeding the challenge of expertly portraying a very complicated man. lisaschuster9187 Im late in on this and Im glad you brought this up, not many have... but Im sure in season 2 it was mentioned that Margaret did have two children but nothing more was said about it, the script didnt carry it on. Did she actually have two pregnancies that went wrong or did she give birth and they were unknown to us? Im an eighties kid so all I remember was Margaret wearing shades in a wheelchair looking rather frail, I thought she was an old lady but I now realize she was youngish when she died its such a shame, her whole love story is so upsetting. xx

    I've watched the whole season already, and I enjoyed it, but it just doesn't quite meet the standard set by seasons one and two! I don't see the necessity for changing so many cast members. Claire Foy was so utterly fantastic... And at the beginning of season 3, the Queen is only in her early 40s. To my knowledge, Claire Foy is in her mid-30s, so why shouldn't she have continued? Contracts? Olivia Colman is a very good actress, but Claire Foy had a certain icy aloofness that Olivia Colman lacks. And - wait for it - this isn't ageist or sexist - she is just a little too old for the part, at least in this series! Helena Bonham-Carter does a wonderful (sorry, I just corrected this from "very good" - I'm English) job, but again, we can't help but compare this series with the first two. And both actresses are too dark (-haired, -eyed, -skinned) for their roles. We need icy blue eyes! Tobias Menzies is delightfully unsympathetic as Prince Philip (try as I might, I think he's a dreadful man) and looks much more like him than Matt Smith, so he is maintaining the level of the first two series. Still, it's all riveting and I look forward to the next one. By the way, Em-Jay Taylor, I like your analysis of Helena Bonham-Carter as an extroverted introvert and being underwhelmed by everything. That's just British. We're all like that. Lateral thinking: I saw an interview with the cast of "Downton Abbey" in which Elizabeth McGovern explained the difference between Americans and Brits: "The Americans are more like dogs, panting enthusiastically and wagging their tails. The British are more like cats. 'Well, I'm not sure whether I really like this.'" She accompanied this with the typical licking and grooming movements of a cat. And hit the nail on the head!!!

      @mattyoung4336 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Toby Alleyne-Gee ... Ultimately the reason behind the cast change is the fact that creator Peter Morgan set it as a cardinal rule for filming the series, based in the fact that it's his own personal belief that when you have actors playing characters who's ages are significantly greater than that of the actors, then using make-up as an ageing special effect can only take you so far and still look realistic. Since the entire expected six seasons of this show is meant to cover almost 70 years of real people, Morgan did not feel it was going to be authentic to make up Foy when they shoot the Queen as she makes her way into old .
      Rather than simply replacing actors once they weren't able to pull off special effect makeup to age them, a blanket rule was created that every two season, where each season represents approx. one decade of the Queens reign, the actors would be replaced. It's not the norm and that is likely why it doesn't feel as comfortable to many people, but I for one thought it was absolutely novel way to approach filming. I love the original cast too, but this way of doing thing did intrigue me, and because I couldn't do anything about it, I just decided to accept it .... and I love this new cast as much as the old one! 😊 ... basically, that's it's. it's nothing to do with contracts, or conflict between actors.

    I love olivia colman, but I dindn't like her as the Queen, I don't know why, something feels off..I thought at first maybe was continuity broken, having changed all the actors.. I'm not so sure anymore, she has always the same face in the crown, wierd because I truly love her, not just as actress but as human being, she's fantastic..

    • @woopdee77
      @woopdee77 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love her too, one of my favorite actors, but I agree with you. Her Queen grew on me as the season progressed, but I think she just brought too much emotion to a character that is known for her lack of it. I think it's more obvious when you compare her performance to Claire's more restraint portrayal of her; the subtle 'steeliness' from the first two seasons was missing. :/

    • @JoyJoy4807
      @JoyJoy4807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Interesting... I thought Olivia as the queen was the best aspect of season 3. I felt Olivia's representation of the queen was totally appropriate to the family context/dynamic in that her children are older and the age of her monarchy at that time as the Queen was no longer a young inexperienced queen. Claire foy was great but olivia really did an exceptional portrayal.

    I wish Olivia Colman could be sometimes serious instead of always trying to be funny. For me that superficiality comes through in her performance, she doesn't inhabit the role like Clare Foye did.
