Bee Gees alone Reaction Music Video Reaction starts at 02:31 1. Sorry...I didn't really pay attention to the music all that much. The music video was very nostalgic to see it so ya. 2. I thought it was really Beegeesesque to see all 3 of them around the microphone. 3. how would I have learned about the beegees back in the day?
In the 60s and 70s, a lot of albums had not only all the lyrics on the inside cover but also special album "notes" with details about the group, the making of the album, etc. Some albums included posters. I bought the Main Course album and it had all the lyrics. Dont remember any notes though it may have had some. (But i sold my turntable & gave away my 30 or so vinyl albums to a friend when i moved across the country for the 6th or 7th time & already collected hundreds of cds in the 80s & 90s. Albums were heavy/bulky.😊) I appreciate your reviews. And have been catching up with all the great BeeGee's songs i missed post disco days! ❤❤❤
You were saying being around the microphone seemed Beatlesque. To me is even more like the 1930s and 1940s when the "Andrew Sisters" would sing their wartime hits at concerts on one mike and many 1930s radio programs broadcast shows like "George Burns & Gracie Allen" or the "Lone Ranger" using one microphone to act out a script. Actually the sound effects guy sometimes would have a separate microphone in those days. Yes performing around one mike reminds me of that and Barbershop quartets also doing the same. Love your reactions! God bless you!❤❤❤
We had tv. was our cell phone, we had magazines that were very popular with the teens.Posters were in the magazine and would tear pages out. Walls were covered.
It's funny you talk about how you would have known? I have spoken to several people lately who wonder why they did not know about the Bee Gees, and the few that did felt very alone in their admiration. Being a Bee gees fan since the early 70's I was always looking for their music, I remember I was so thrilled when they would release a new album. Also crushed when they past away 1 by 1 leaving only Barry now. I'm so happy they have such a large collection of work to listen to
Use of vintage clips in this video was genius. The shot of Barry, alone, near the end is so unknowingly prophetic, you can't help feeling a sense of loss listening to these lyrics. Did you notice, around the 4:20 mark, a very young Andy Gibb being pulled along by a young Mo?
I love this video and song. I feel like I have a seat at the Gibb family table. Experiencing their lives as they grew up via clips. As for music ... this song shows their versatility- switching between natural register and harmonies. And then I can’t stop from reacting to the irony of video ending with Barry sing solo he doesn’t want to be alone.
RECORD STORE... We bought records back in the day... record stores were the place to see the new albums. And... radio was big, now I'm really aging myself, HA!
These words to this song are great along with Robins sweet sound made this such a great song. You make it sound so hard! Go to a record store and look for their albums!
1997 was a banner year for The Bee Gees. There was a lot of press around them prior and around the time of the release of "Alone" and Still Waters. They were getting lifetime achievement awards all over the world in the first half of 1997 culminating with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction just as "Alone" was about to released in America after becoming a worldwide hit. Demand was so high for Still Waters but Polydor Records didn't ship enough copies to retailers and the album "only" debuted at #11 in America. And no, there were no common resources for Bee Gees research on the internet in 1997. You could have had a CD-ROM of the Encyclopedia Britannica for research, but that was it. No Wikipedia, no All Music, no Amazon.
To answer your question "Where do you find out about current music artists?" A dozen DJs who specialize in the music world Art Labow, Wolfman Jack and the King, the "AGELESS" Dick Clark, and others. They had shows on TV. The number one show was Sunday night the Ed Sullivan Show. That show was the kingmaker variety show the whole family would gather around the TV to see the Whos Who from the entertainment world. It was the age of the Baby Boomers when that group was so large that every year society would be building new grammar schools, then Jr High schools then High schools. That group's actions were labeled the time of FREE LOVE, DRUGS, and ROCK-N-ROLL. A group so large that they were the 600 lb gorilla in the room. Where does a 600 lb gorilla sit? ANYWHERE IT WANTS TO. Adults lost total control of society to the growing up youth. Morals of the past were all thrown out while the youth were experimenting. The slogan of the time was "Don't Trust Anyone over 30." Oh yeah, that was also the time when a little white pill could be taken by a woman, and for the first time throughout the history of mankind, she could be free from the fear of becoming pregnant.
Enjoy your videos. You know what, this is the song that got me into the Bee Gees...I heard it on the radio in 1997, I was 15 years old. And just like you said...I wanted to learn more about them..and I WAS very motivated! I asked my mom for one thing...so that helped. And yes there were websites out there, even back in 1997. Plus, I also went to the local stores that sold CDs (RIP Circuit City) and got some of their music and got into them that way. Something about them appealed to me more than the boy bands and other crap that was on the radio at the time.
You would enjoy their live reunion concert. U can find here on u tube. I’d enjoy seeing u react to that. It was amazing how over time, they’ve never lost it!
There is a quick clip toward the end of this video that is from their first TV appearance where the sang “Time is Passing By” at about age 12 and 9. (Be sure to notice Barry’s guitar strap!) Also, two clips from the official video they did for their first #1 called “Spicks & Specks” from Australia just before leaving for London. Showcases their creativity & humor:) Recomend both of these.
I didn't like the Bee Gees growing up because my sister was obsessed with disco. Alone was the song that converted me then! The lyrics blew me away and then I saw their One Night Only concert tour they were doing at the time as it aired on PBS. I realized a lot of the 60s songs I liked like To Love Somebody and Lonely Days were actually the same group. So I went to the mall to some place like Sam Goody and bought a bunch of compilation cassettes and then I began going to thrift stores to find records of all their albums. Suffice to say, my collection is quite huge now and even has 8 tracks, even though I don't own an 8 track player! 🤣
To learn more about the Bee Gees in 1997? There were plenty of books about the Bee Gees to buy. Also, it was very easy to just go to a shop and buy their CD's or tapes
This is really nostalgic fo sure. Another song with great versions for comparison is "First of May".There is the studio version in 1968 with Barry on the lead and a very nostalgic video; There is an Opera version by Sarah Brightman in 1999 ; There's also what might be the last performance of Maurice (not sure) when he sang First of May with his ex-wife Lulu, released in 2003 I think(you can see the emotion in their eyes, so beautiful).
On their 1974 Mr. Natural Album, there's a couple of songs "Throw A Penny" and "Down The Road" (2/3 on the first side) where you can hear them transmitting from Pop-Ballad to R&B influenced Rock. Between this two songs, there's no interruption on the LP. Could be very interestin' for you.
I was 16 in 97. To look up the bands i liked, i would just go to tower records and check the whole store. I was into the beatles, i'd check the oldies section. Motown artists and beatles.
In 1997 there was a lot on the Internet about the Bee Gees. There were a few documentaries about them you probably could find at your local video store. As someone who worked in a music store, I would also say you could have gone to your local store to get recommendations on their best LPs. And magazines would have been a source of info at the library rather than an encyclopedia. They also had a few biographies written about them in the late 1970s. But the best source of info would be joining one of their fan clubs. (I ran my own club and later worked with the official fan club.)
Those home videos are really bittersweet to watch. Kind of ironic to hear Barry sing, "I don't wanna be alone," knowing he's the only brother left. Semi-good song. Jay, you should listen to "First of May" by them. It's a sentimental song.
Internet dial up was slow as shit back in the 90S. Remember AOL - They were the dark days my friend. Love the Bee Gees Alone video / reaction Jaybriel Akoli. Remeber - The Net - Staring Sandra Bullock back in 1995. Always good for a laugh, This film it a real time capsule of how the web looked back in the 90S.
The trouble wasnt just for the Bee Gees. Back then, unless a group got A LOT of play on the radio, you may never even hear their music. Folks who already loved hte Bee Gees May have the Saturday Night Fever album, but if you werent a fan of that musical era, new music from the would be dismissed as disco and not listened to. I am a huge fan of the group and I can say that I NEVER heard much from them after that album. I think it comes down to radio exposure and the demographics.
@@jaybrielakoi7747 And once the music industry started to balkanized into niche markets and demographics due in part to the advent of new technologies, killed a lot of talents and music and help to hasten the decline of popular music.
I agree, it would’ve been very difficult to find out more about the Bee Gees in the late 90s. I got my first PC in 2000, and then I got a lot of my cassettes from eBay. There were music sharing sites like Napster, which was deemed to be stealing. I also went to the half-price bookstore. I only knew about their main stream most popular hits at that time.
I was asking YOU to watch it so YOU. Got get a drift of their brotherhood and personality and growing up together. As of today, the internet and you tube could show you and your viewers. It wasn’t complicated
He was making an excellent point about IF he was really interested in them before modern technology took off. then back in the 1990's how would he do it. It wasn’t complicated
You went to music stores back then… The twins and I are the same age. I’ve been a fan since I was in high school and I’m 71 now. So, records, tapes, record stores, cds, internet, itunes… been there, done that. If you liked an artist you found a way to keep up.
yeah...I went to music stores. I guess I didn't have the wherewithall to try and get more into music. Music is so convenient now and so plentifull. It's nuts that we have so much to choose from now.
I try not to be mean and to judge, but I am confused , respectfully...I was the one requesting Rings Around the Moon and was certainly under the impression you were not fond of it. I also mentioned you might get to know them better back in the day. Your comment, which I have to take as your opinion confuses me. Wishing you success in your future
I would have so preferred them to have done a 'traditional' story-video for this song. It would have made the song more commercial too. I would have had young pretty actors done the video as well.

I love the bag pipes on this song.
Great video for visual appeal and symbolism. Love the song and its meaning. These men were masters of lyrics and messaging.
Jay, do you notice how relaxed the BeeGees are when they sing, hands in pockets they do not even have to try they are that good . 11/5/22

Barry is the remaining brother. All 3 Brothers have passed away. Barry is alone . He is married to same woman for 50 yrs in Miami area.
we only got one left.
One of my favorite videos, you see so much of all three Brothers and their different voices. Anyway great reaction love THE BEE GEES 💔🔥💔🔥❤️🔥
