    I don't have a problem buying an ex-Police Bike as long as the seller is honest and says it in the advert.
    Ive seen bikes for sale that have had the bodywork and seat etc changed and repainted to make them look 'Normal'
    They then charge top Dollar for them.
    One big give away is the RS sticker on the Speedometer that shows that it is a calibrated Speedometer 😀

    First off ~ thank you for the videos. It was your review of the 2018 R1200RT that helped me make the decision to make the purchase. After 36K km still loving it every kilometre!!! A couple seating solutions for you. To stop sliding forward I bought two rubber mounts, which the front of the seat pan mounts to on the frame, with off set holes. They are designed to lower the seat but if you turn them 180º they raise the front end on the seat. To keep my bottom cool I put a 3D mesh cover on the seat. HUGE difference!!! I found them both on the Chinese Amazon site for about $25 Cdn for mounts and seat covers.

    They are amazing bikes, i started riding the RTP in 2007 and finished on the 1250 model a few months ago, they were serviced every 8 weeks in my old life, and very rarely let us down and the handling embarrassed many a sports bike rider, i was so impressed i have owned two of my own RT’s just from the aspect of the handling and comfort. Some have had a harder life than others, they get used a lot for low gear acceleration on emergency response and can develop a bit of an issue with the first three gears, also the brake pads, disks and fluid was changed on a very regular basis for the same reasons.
    The angel eyes and cruise control wasnt an option from the factory, the ones that had it were normally just random installations, they were certainly the best crash bars ever fitted to any bike and tested by multiple people. Great channel 👍

      thanks so much for the kind words Andrew. Love this bike to bits and sounds like you've had a few of them too! I've always loved the ride on these and this one hasn't disappointed on that front..

    The 9 mile an hour lower limit, for the cruise control is for parade duty, when motors would lead parades. The instrument cluster angle can be adjusted to reduce and or remove glare from the sun, the hump/radio box has an available optional padding that can go on the front of the box to protect your back And the additional plastic around the frame is there to improve the rider’s comfort, not so much for cleanliness, but to keep excess heat away from the rider.

    What we all want to know was how much did it cost? Think this is one of the best videos that you have done, I can see so much sense in to looking at the second hand market, these bikes will give most riders all that they need and at a fraction of the cost, most vloggers seem obsessed with promoting all the latest wizardry that the manufacturers want us to believe that we need when most of us really don't, if we ride on European roads at relatively law abiding speeds then all we probably need is traction control, maybe ABS and cruise is very handy if you go on longer rides... job done! Hats off for some common sense, looking forward to hearing more about your great new bike.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks so much for the kind words... It was the older RTP I had for a couple of months with 134000 miles on it. it rode like it had only done 30k and was super great so I wanted the water-cooled version and found this one and have to say I love it... love the fact that there are less gizmos.... its the way to go I think, so many used bikes out there! will still be reviewing new ones, but plan to do a few vids on this one... :). you can pick these up from auction for around £4000 is your lucky and mine didn't cost much more.. these RTP's are a bargain over the regular versions money wise, you just have to make sure its got the bits on it you want, like cruise control etc as many don't.... ride safe buddy

    I am in Australia and Just received my 2016 R1200RTp and I absolutely love it. I think I will have to sell my GS now because I don't think I will ride it much if ever. Thank you for your videos, I have also installed the Chigee, and Ezcan (somebody stop me) it can't get much better. I will post a video soon as there aren't many on these great bikes.

    The RT is a better Tourer than the GS models (I owned 4 GSs and GSAs in the past). It has an amazing weather protection and aerodynamic design. The GS models start feeling lighter in highway speeds while the RT gets planted like it creates some sort of downforce with speed.

    • @RiderCamTV

      The fairing creates that down pressure that you were referring to. I've had my K1100 LT up to a speedometer indicated speed of 150. Maxed out the tach. Fairing kept the bike planted.

    I actually like the look of the rtp. Iam certainly going to buy one. They are really good value for money compared to some privately owned bikes , there appears to be some horror stories but personally think its a bit of a myth, which is all good for those of us who want to purchase one. Looking forward to more updates on your bike.👍

    • @RiderCamTV

    The panels you mention down by the footpegs are standard on RTPs but not on the civilian ones. You can order from a BMW dealer or buy some aftermarket versions. I loved my RT and really regret selling it. Your vid has made me think about changing back to one again. Did two iron butt rides on it and it was brilliant

    You are spot on with your assessment. The mirrors are fine, the only thing I would disagree with is that the standard panniers let things fall out. No they don’t it’s crap packing and clumsiness by the rider. Just take care 😅😅😅 I’m on my 4th RT they are brilliant and certainly last ages. Enjoy the bike

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comments. That’s my experience with the standard panniers. Being a tour guide it’s much easier to get access from the top than the side and as you can expect I pack well but they don’t suit what I want. Each to their own :)

  • @lestersmyth692
    @lestersmyth692 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Recently picked up a 2017 LE model which has all the toys as standard. I believe the P variant is the basic model hence no angel eyes etc. Anyway my bike had 41k on it (miles) when purchased with full BMW history and is almost pristine. I paid 7.4k for it and rides like a dream. The mirrors took some getting used to but do work superb. The RTs definitely wear mileage well if maintained, I’d wanted one for some time but didn’t fancy PCP on new or spending 21k - very happy. Thanks 👍

    • @derache123
      @derache123 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The P model is just the police/authorities model - it has a different wiring harness, auxiliary battery, crash bars, slim panniers and radio box, and a shorter final drive ratio (among some other things). All the fancy bits including the angel eyes can be optioned on the P model, but most police agencies simply choose not to.

    RT-P bikes also have lower final drive ratio that’s about half way between regular RT and a GS.
    My 2009 version which I bought for “a song” is perfect because I treat it as a sport bike, but it is also supremely comfortable for tours. I’ve converted it for two-up riding and do not regret it one bit.

    It's going to be a great bike. I'm sure it'll convert you from the GS completely. 😜
    It's interesting that you dismiss the use of inner bags in the civvy side-boxes because they slightly reduce capacity, then praise the P model for forcing you to plan how to take less stuff with you. You then try to re-invent the top-box. 🙃
    In all seriousness, though, I hope you enjoy the bike. 👍

      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I know what you mean about the panniers, but I guess for me to load them from the top is so much easier and to also limit me taking far too much on each tour is always good.. The Scottish police say they’re wrecked at 40k miles? Utter rubbish unless they didn’t maintain them. The only issue I have with the RT is finish. Newer ones might be ok but every post 2013 bike I’ve seen had alloy corrosion and some had poor paintwork. I wonder if owners weren’t maintaining them? My 2018 RS had some corrosion on pannier frame racks due to bad paint finish but is excellent everywhere else.

    I actually like the look of the rtp. Iam certainly going to buy one. They are really good value for money compared to some privately owned bikes , there appears to be some horror stories but personally think its a bit of a myth, which is all good for those of us who want to purchase one. Looking forward to more updates on your bike.👍

      The only problem is where do you put a passenger?

      That’s the whole point. There’s no room for a passenger 🤣

      There's no room to put a passenger... I guess that would be a good excuse to get away from your SHMBO...
