It's true. The MSX was already at the end of its life when Metal Gear came out, and they managed to squeeze two amazing games out of it! Metal Gear 2 particularly has great complexity and one of the best soundtracks of the series.

Absolutely yes. I mean, I don't know if it would have been possible (but I think so), but Kojima should have included a separate slot for cards to avoid this nosense nuisance.
They should have had the cards automatically open doors if you had them in your possession. That was one of the major annoyances of MGS1 and Snake's Revenge.

There was a fan remake in development that was going to have David Hayter voicing Snake and Kojima even greenlighting it. Of course Konami being Konami got it shut down.
Basement is doable with a luck because Big Boss tells you about the hidden walls but did I missed any tip about the rocket launcher or they fuck with us? how the fuck I should know to call that bitch standing behind a specific door and then kill with rockets these 2 assholes? that's some genius sadistic "puzzle".
@@BITCOIlN I agree with the rocket launcher. It's bullshit. The only hint for this, that this is the ONLY room in the entire game where there is no item or prisoner. And this can be suspicious to some people...BUT NOT TO ME. I had to look after too, it's a bullshit trick.
i was stuck on this game back for 2 years. we had no internet/dial up back then. i was stuck on the rocket launcher, and the compass thing. I DISCOVERED THE SHIT BY LUCK. Yes, if I did not try dialing up shit outside the rocket launcher room, I wouldn't have finished the game.

Boss tells only that there are secret walls so I was punching every wall like an asshole, got the bomb suit and missed uniform and lost too much time on this shit until I checked this walkthough but getting the rocket launcher and card7 is the ultimate bullshit I ever seen in any game, there's not a single clue you have to call someone at the specific spot to get a rocket launcher and kill these 2 guys with that launcher. Like what the actual fuck...
Sounds like King's Field. You just need to try every wall for secrets and run like hell and avoid powerful enemies. Also you need to get teleportation device, get full health, drop of a bridge, almost die, find secret stuff and teleport to safe.

After playing this game for the first time, All I have to say is *OW.* I respect it. Its BIG plot twist and final BOSS spawned an apparently improved sequel which lead to an even further improved sequel that catapulted the series into superstardom, and it's not bad for being the first stealth game. In fact, I'm having fun memorising enemy patterns and discovering item locales and prisoners. However, this game is proof of how cryptic games could be back in the Mid-Late 1980s. It's influential, but you can tell that director Hideo Kojima hasn't hit the nail in the head just yet.
@@DemonK1ngODIO Yeah, the original Castle Wolfenstein was the birth of the tropes of the stealth game, but that was more of a maze action-adventure game from what I've seen, evident by how the franchise it lead to (which actually began with Wolfenstein 3D) wound up as gaming's first First Person Shooter franchise, though the stealth elements would be used in RTCW and New Order. Metal Gear was where the stealth elements that Castle Wolfenstein bought to the table were refined and bought to the forefront where the main goal was espionage and evasion rather than escape and elimination, and once the third entry, Metal Gear Solid, was given a wide release in 1998, the arguable father wound up being one of three games to popularise the stealth genre alongside Thief: The Dark Project and Tenchu. And yeah, in case you're wondering, I began another playthrough, and I'll still say *OW...* though I did have a bit more fun that time. Kojima still had yet to hit the nail (which he eventually did with Solid), but the first game laid the foundation in a fun, yet confusing way.
A major kuddos and thank you to the guy or gal who this walkthrough! It was a life saver! I've been a Metal Gear fanboy ever since i first played and discovered Sons of Liberty back in 2016, since then I've been trying to get a hold of, play, and beat every single Metal Gear game out there whether it be canon or non-canon. Mg2 Solid Snake here i come! And then after that i need to do Portable Ops, Ghost Babble, and the Acid games Lol i still got a way to go!
What an awesome game for the time. I would have loved to play that if I was old enough. I'm born in 97' so the chance of me playing this game back than is slim.
Imagine they remake both mgs 1 and 2 with cutscenes and stuff, outerheaven could be the first part (it only takes two hours to complete it if they make it more accessible and less cryptic)then you defeat venom and the second part is Zanzibar land, as a big open world space like mgsV.
One moment Venom Snake, face dripping in blood, smashes a mirror and goes to face his destiny.. ...............few moments later he is taken out by a rocket.
I remember this game from when I was in 5th grade. My friend got it and we played it together. At the time, this game was a really big deal. My friend got to the end, and said he was disappointed because he saw that big machine thing, but it just stood there and got blown up. Now 30 years later, I see what he was talking about!! haha.
Your imagination is too big. In another words: You are wrong. Metal Gear (MSX) was meant to be a single game without any sequels. When the NES version released it was kinda good seller, so this other developer team made the NES version's sequel Snake's Revenge. When a developer member met with Kojima and told him that they are working on Snake's Revenge, Kojima decided he make his OWN SEQUEL. And that's how Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was born. And Kojima maybe after that decided that he write the whole Metal Gear-saga.
Im beginning my journey through the franchise after finishing MGSV as my first metal gear game (crazy I know) Thank you so much for this guide dude. I had to pretty much follow you to a T because the second I strayed from the walk through I got destroyed lmao this game is insanely brutal and I have no clue how people finished this back in the day
What they were thinking making this shit? acquiring uniform is BS, they don't tell you at all where it is, these fucking calls to open a door is bullshit, how the fuck I should know I should call here at these doors? especially getting the rocket launcher and killing these 2 guys to get card 7, wow! that's a brilliant game design Kojima!
+Psychol One thing that I have always hated about this game is that you have to cycle through all your cards at every goddamn door. Thankfully they completely fixed that problem in Metal Gear Solid, where each new card was an "improved" version of older cards, and you could also read the required card levels on the doors themselves.
Psychol it was the age of complexity in games and in order to beat them u had to sneak a peak at guides every time your mom went to the store. You have to have been around that time to understand it was good but in a different way.Gaming actually made you think.
Well the uniform is right outside where greyfox is held. In order to even get to him you have to knock down a false wall teaching you that there are false walls in the game. You punch the wall and if there's a passage a ? shows up above your characters head. I havent reached the doors yet though so idk about those.

This is one of those rare instances where the left and right facing sprite for your character isn't just reversed one from another. When Snake gets a gun and turns toward right, you'd see his frontal view while turning left will show his back.
Today I wouldn't want to spend all that time backtracking just to beat it efficiently. Although maybe I would if I wasn't tired all the time. Super impressive game, refreshing in a day and age where games are lacking in a lot of ways.
I remember playing through this a few years back. I had no guide, and a piece of notebook paper filled with the hints and numbers I'd found. They don't make games like this any more, but they should
They need to remake this and mgs: Ss, that would complete the entire story, solid snake defeats venom snake in outer heaven and the real big boss in Zanzibarland. Can you imagine this w two games with Mgsv controls and ps5 graphics , would be something epic, but a company like Konami doesn’t see that vision 😢, it’s a ashame, they leaving two beautiful remakes on the table., plus I always wanted to play as a young version of Solid, by the time we get to play him he’s already a legend
Nope you fight naked snake, BUT in the remaster version there's a new line after you escape, big boss call and say "... can you hear me? Solid snake... I'm not dead... someday, I'll get even with you."
@@vitor022 No, venom snake dies in the first metal gear, "venom" snake is a clone of "naked snake" (the real big boss). Like yoga said in metal gear 2 you fight the real big boss.

To everyone constantly rushing in to point out: "It's Venom Snake, not Big Boss" Two things. = SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO AVOID = 1. This is a retconned answer decided years later. Yes, it fits in with the plot of the series, and explains how Big Boss lives through this game (though that was easily solved by saying he didn't die; since you know... he's a super soldier); but overall, the fact that it's obvious when Metal Gear first came out, they didn't care and Big Boss was just supposed to be the final boss; rushing in to say it's Venom Snake, doesn't do anything except.... 2. ...spoil people who haven't played MGSV yet. Which honestly, is super annoying, because it doesn't let them experience the game and discover this stuff on their own. The revelation to these questions becomes a lot less impacting when someone in the comments comes in and outright spoils this stuff before they can play the game and put the pieces together themselves.
TheShadowlord90 spoiler alert big boss was always just an idea and not an actual person and ideas evolve[pick the word which best suits your ego]. If you want to get technical, a title only. If you instead choose to reject change and live in the past then yeah its a vague, warmongering character who never died. So, "big boss" evolves in the series. Change brings depth(sometimes)--Nuance. Depth creates tension and tension is good writing. If you want to keep the series in context then see it for what it is--clever writing. Those are some thoughts which i believe need to be said when someone cries spoiler on a game which came out nearly half a decade ago.
@@TacticsTechniquesandProcedures Maybe.... maybe, It's not really a matter of change that bugs me. It's the fact that such a minor plotpoint was retconned, and now there's players who have only played MGSV (which most fans agree has the worst story in the series), rushing back to these to be like "HAI GUYZ, DID YOU KNOW IT'S REALLY VENOM, AND NOT BIG BOSS? COOL HUH?" It didn't add anything, it just makes most of us roll our eyes.
I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU. Thanks for uploading this, I just wanted to see a playthrough with all codec calls and scenes and with the actual gameplay. xD All I could see were people skipping everything, almost like if they wanted to speedrun this game. Thank you again
Coming from mgs 1-3 this was a huge shock I could not for the life of me find my way around this map so thank you so much for this guide it helped me enjoy this game
I'm surprised how many comments complain about the game being difficult and lacking of any logical game play. Back in the days we spent months playing it and managed to beat it without any guide. Of course we died many times, but you could save your state to tape and continue at the exact same spot. And yes, we spent hours checking walls or trying to communicate at different frequencies to get help by radio. The way we played back then was different. The fact of being difficult made it just more challenging and this game was so ahead of its time that we couldn't stop figuring out what was about to happen next. If millennials think this game is difficult, they should try to beat Maze of Galious without guide: that's a challenge!
artifical difficulty is a thing, you know. as someone who played retro games back in the day. I'm glad they are (mostly) no longer artificially difficult.

It's true. The MSX was already at the end of its life when Metal Gear came out, and they managed to squeeze two amazing games out of it! Metal Gear 2 particularly has great complexity and one of the best soundtracks of the series.
That's why older games are better, nostalgic and more fun. Now we just have hand holding and graphics. Gameplay is non existence

Yes
Absolutely yes. I mean, I don't know if it would have been possible (but I think so), but Kojima should have included a separate slot for cards to avoid this nosense nuisance.
@@SimoneCalloni or just make it so you don't have to equip the key cards like in later games

The first 2 metal gear games definitely deserve a remake
After playing this game for the first time, All I have to say is *OW.*
I respect it.
First stealth game?
Castle Wolfeinstein would like to have a word with you.

Your suppose to beat this game after you complete the rest of the mgs's kojima had the whole thing planned since birth
Actually, Solid Snake, Solid, Sons of Liberty, Guns of the Patriots and Rising: Revengence take place after this game.

+Psychol
One thing that I have always hated about this game is that you have to cycle through all your cards at every goddamn door.
Psychol You're the kind of person who couldn't survive a week without the internet.
Well the uniform is right outside where greyfox is held. In order to even get to him you have to knock down a false wall teaching you that there are false walls in the game. You punch the wall and if there's a passage a ? shows up above your characters head. I havent reached the doors yet though so idk about those.

To everyone constantly rushing in to point out: "It's Venom Snake, not Big Boss" Two things.
= SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO AVOID =
COOL HUH?"
It didn't add anything, it just makes most of us roll our eyes.
