The spiders spawning inside the dragon and having correct pathfinding all the way to the player, while you never get a chance to see any of it is so on brand for DS2
its such a shame really. ds2 was a passion project. all of the little details confirm as much. but they just failed to stick the landing on where it really counted.
I didn't go into it more since I would be speaking over the music. But if you go listen the centipede/capra demon theme it has a cool creepy crawly effect, like skuttly insect legs. This, combined with the fact the track is named "Centipede Demon", makes me think it MIGHT be the centipedes theme... maybe.
It is not Freja who kills the dragon. When we enter Dragon Memories, the Ancient Dragon is already dead. Dragon Memories takes us to the end of the Age of Everlasting Dragons, to a point where the Age of Fire has not yet begun. We go to the last part of Age of the Ancients and Gray Age. The war with the gods is over and the Ancient Dragon is dead. Archtrees have been destroyed. Thousands of years later, Freja turns the dragon's corpse into her home.
@@OmneAurumNonthey really are. Though if I saw that thing irl (or just any type of centipede, for that matter), I would probably [Luigi’s Mansion] myself
Freya looks more like 2 spiders stuck end to end rather than one singular spider, as she has 4 distinct body segments where as spiders have 2. That being head/torso and abdomen which she has 2 of each. There are also 8 pairs not counting the extra more blade shaped limbs (which are likely her pedipalps to assist in eating) at the front, 2 small sets and 2 large sets of legs per side. So if she is 2 spiders then she would certainly have the correct number of legs.
I noticed the same thing. Reminds me of grafting in Elden Ring. Godrick + Freja as the Grafted Duo in Nightreign would be sick. Maybe even have Godrick riding Freja as a boss phase
Maybe she/they is/are permanently mating, fused together into one body... Okay, that IS kinda cursed, but insects and arachnoids do have some solid hooks in their genitals and angeler fish females absorb one or several (tiny!) males into them... Might explain how she keeps producing endless spawn XD
She looks like this because she literally is two spiders stuck together. Early versions of her boss fight had possible plans for the bodies to split, putting you in a 2-on-1 situation ala The Maneater or Belfry Gargoyles. The final design de-emphasized this, but it's still obvious enough when you look that you were able to not only notice, but break it down that well. So good on you!
@SIGNOR-G I prefer the actual gameplay of DS2 being more slow and methodical over that of DS3, but the bosses and level design still put 3 far above 2 for me. DS1 will always be my favorite though
If you look at their original Japanese name Dragonrider, the rider part is more like calvary, ground-based riders. My theory is that they actually used to ride the Flame Salamanders. That’s explains why they had them in the fort.
I’m pretty sure the riders ride those weird bipedal dragons we see in Shulvas basement (if we take concept art as gospel) except less abyss corrupted of course.
Their concept art had them ride some armored, raptor-looking creatures. They must have been cut early, because no 3d model for them has been unearthed.
Actually, the Japanese name for the dragon riders is a misinterpreted pun. In Japanese they're actually referred to as "dragoons" which is specifically a Chinese calvary and it is less accurate to the English name because it actually dissociates their connection to the dragons since the word dragoon in Japanese does not sound similar to either of the words for dragon. Ryu for Japanese dragons and just doragon(dragon) in katakana for European dragons. If wondering why two words, it's because Ryu are actually considered fish and are not the same as European dragons.

I should point out that it takes about 2/3rds of Freja's total HP to knock off a head, so the only way to softlock yourself in her fight is to heal her with Warmth.
Iirc, it's not a hard HP amount, it's a factor of how much damage is being dealt to a head over time, that decays over time. I've seen a head come off below half in multiplayer, for example, when the "passive" head gets beat up by two people at once, and I've seen it so that one head takes all the damage for the fight, but never actually gets knocked off, because it was a very slow fight. I've never actually had both come off before she died though. ...though I'm ALSO pretty sure this isn't actually a softlock, either, since, the removed heads still technically exist as valid hit zones, they're just set to block with 100% absorption. I wonder how you create a Green Screen for your Dark Souls III character, I tried using reShade'a chroma key feature but it didn't work for any dark souls game, only for Elden Ring so how did you do it?
For DS2 the actual twink invader build is: Warlock Mask, Engraved gauntlets, Jester body armor, and Havel legs. I've played so much DS2 that the real reason that Freya doesn't "invade you" is because that area is already difficult. You are expected to be able to challenge any of the 4 lords with the lost sinner being the first in theory. Old Iron King being the hardest if you don't know about torch mechanics for Freya. Also the fact you can softlock on the Freya fight is amazing because it never happens in normal gameplay and something I've never known about.
The shot at 1:16 actually makes me sad in a way. One of the things I personally dislike the most about souls games is how little communication there is between characters in general. This idle chilling of the nameless king really makes me wish you could atleast exchange a few lines with him throughout the story.
Most bosses in souls games are either undead/ghosts or insane. I think the few you do get to talk to make an impression In the case of the Nameless King it seems pretty intentional that he's supposed to be a mysterious figure and you're fighting a shadowy, vague memory of what he once was
Like there are so many RPGs that are dialogue heavy, I'm fine with there being one series of games that focuses more on contextual storytelling and world building
@IronicHavoc I know, and it adds to the theme of a dead world and the feeling of hopelessness. Nonetheless I would personally prefer some more interpersonal relations :)
Well, Gwyndolin and Nito had that, and people didn’t really like that you had to choose between killing a boss and interacting with a covenant/npc. Elden Ring has a lot of character interaction in its early part (like you can actually observe Gostoc through the castle, convey messages between Roderika and Hewg, come back to Varre after you get to frontgate, have Kale act as matchmaker, do the whole correspondence between Blaidd-Iji-Seluvis-Sellen etc.) but you can see how it dwindles by the end because it’s a lot of work and even though it’s neat, the majority of people skip it anyway because it’s just trivia without unique rewards
Yes, I've heard this, too, but I've never tested it. Basically, the head stump still is an active hit location, it just begins "blocking" with 100% absorption to all damage types. Guard penetrating weapons or attacks can thus bypass some of that, and inflict chip damage
Hyped for some really cool bosses returning to us, especially my Dear Freya. You forgot to mention how the spiderlings follow her head around when you kick it like a football XD Also, always good to see the Old Man is still with us. Never change, old fart : D

Something tells me that Fromsoft is going to rework those centipede limbs to grab the player from like 20ft away with a lunge grab..
Thank you for the only kind of content
Old man, you remind me of the old days...
I think the few you do get to talk to make an impression
In the case of the Nameless King it seems pretty intentional that he's supposed to be a mysterious figure and you're fighting a shadowy, vague memory of what he once was
Like there are so many RPGs that are dialogue heavy, I'm fine with there being one series of games that focuses more on contextual storytelling and world building
14:30 I've Read That You Can Actually Damage Freja With Stuff Like Shield-Piercing Weapons, Such As The *Shotel*
You forgot to mention how the spiderlings follow her head around when you kick it like a football XD
Also, always good to see the Old Man is still with us. Never change, old fart : D
I was just thinking about you (in a good way, don't have weird thoughts baka) and then you upload another banger! Thank you.
It's such a MIRACLA that I got to see this video. I must be BUILD different
With that end surprise. I think I need a magnet that says Love, Live, Lest now. Its so stupidly perfect.
"What a Reigny Night" (proceeds to show Nightreign poster)
Goddamn it, Old Man.
