    You should do a collab with LTT where you build an ultimate GPU/CPU rendering/modelling workstation. I've always had the same experience as you with their videos. They are (of course) focused on gaming and video editing, and it's JUUUST informative enough, but making a video (series?) about 3d workstations would be FANTASTIC.

    What an amazing review Eloi, I had the exactly same feeling, we lack more specific review for 3d artists. Well done, thanks a lot for the effort put into it and all the work and contribution for the community.

    Thank you for the video! I am still using a nearly identical specs laptop like your old one, almost 6 years old. Sometimes I feel like I am pushing the limits of the limits with the poor thing and it feels its age. I wish I could upgrade one day.

    Cool video! I confirm that you can!
    I'm running a Zephyrus G14 1660ti 16gb ddr4 instead of my desktop i7 9600k GTX 1080 48GB DDR4 just because it's convenient =). Two years ago I set a goal for myself to learn how to work in 3d max on the touchpad and now I sometimes work while sitting on the couch. It helps my back to rest. It also gives you the confidence of complete mobility without ten pound bags.
    Been working with visualizations, simulations for a long time, last five years working in gamedev. However, very often there are scenes of 20-30 million polygons and okay, never had to do more.

    Really interesting video. On the BOXX machine with the 3080, were using the Nvidia Gaming driver, or the Nvidia Studio driver? I've never seen anyone compare the two in a DCC program like Max.

      Was using studio drivers in the dell laptop and on the boxx machine. Studio drivers are not available for the gtx960m so I was using the gaming drivers on the msi laptop. Basically gaming/studio are pretty similar just the studio drivers are not updated as often as the gaming drivers and when they do, they have been tested on different 3dprograms to ensure stability.

    Finally, a real "3d workflow" review. Thank you!

    Hi Eloi muchas gracias super interesting . I’m using a thinkpad p1 g2 happily for 2 years now for architectural and vray, do you think a egpu is feasible for an update to rendering?

    Congratulations on the upgrade! The RTX A4000 looks impressive and unexpected!

    Hi Eloi, can Arnold render tyFlow as Arnold Points? I am trying to figure out how to render dust without plugins like phoenixFD and I noticed that max fluids render foam as arnold points.

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats a very good question, and as you said arnold has the option however is not exposed. Let me investigate. One way its just scatter geometry over the particles, not as efficient as point rendering but tyflow and arnold are good managing milions of instances

    love your reasons for doing this @1:50min . i like them too but they are genereric. One thing I am disappointed in with your video is that you didn't specify or write in the specification at the beginning of video, each CPUs boost clock speed you only said their base clock speed and how long it CPU was able to keep its boost clock speed consistently going. I feel that this is a major factor that informs the outcome and also informs viewers to what level of components they would need to buy two fulfil their needs. plus comparison charts are needed. but great video thanks

    what you used for fluid simulation in this video bifrost or phoenix fd? which is best for fluid sims? and how you created tornado that you shown here?

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The liquid simulation is “Fluids” the solver that come with 3dsmax than its based on bifrost. The scene of the tornado all physics is tyflow. For the tornado itself I download a vdb sequence of a tornado from embergen webpage. They have very good free vdb sequences of clouds, fire, smoke, explosions... and this tornado

    Gracias por el video!!
    Recientemente he adquirido un portatil, un Legion Ryzen 7, y la verdad es q va bastante bien. Aunque trabajo con un Threadripper 3970x y es una bestia.
    Creo que para 3D, una buena forma de trabajar es con el sobremesa por escritorio remoto y con un portatil q sea bueno y tenga DP por USBC, permite mucha flexibiliad, mobilidad y trabajar en cualquier parte

    Is it safe to render on the dell precision laptop?
    I have one, but when i render using arnold, the cpu temperature goes up to 100 degree Celsius...

    • @zafir7007
      @zafir7007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use external cooler like Olmaster, it can reduce temperature by about 4 celcious.
      Changing to a better thermal paste cam also reduce temperature by 3 to 4 celcious

      100c is within spec for Intel CPUs, and the chip will slow itself down periodically to keep from exceeding 100. As Zafir mentioned, a laptop cooling stand can help it run cooler. I have a 8-core Ryzen laptop and have left it rendering overnight many times. As long as the air vents aren't blocked, it's fine.

    I think Nvidia is purposefully slowing down their non workstation chips via drivers. did you used studio ready driver in both laptop and desktop.Or else many cad software use single core clock speed and latest architecture and cache memory, for vport performance, your xeon is on 14nm while laptop is on 10nm. for fluid simulation number of core,vram and ram are important.

    • @vmafarah9473
      @vmafarah9473 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      theoretically gaming cards share same architecture but may have fewer vram and are slightly clocked higher.3080 uses faster gddr6x while worksattion uses gddr6.
