I made these 20+years ago. So easy and so simple.

I made these years ago--I also use a very fine sandpaper on the back after the fabric was all dry--then outside or a ventilated area spray the back with polyurethane spray. It makes the plate more washable--still no dishwasher. I also use a cool whip container or margarine tub to help hold the plate. I also used fabrics to match a room and hanger the plates with plate hangers. For example, my Mom had a sunflower in her kitchen and I used sunflower fabric.

This would be a great idea to pair a set of these plates with a table runner you sew with the same fabric and matching patterns like you’d get on a set of precuts. What an awesome table decoration that would be to start with, the add candles, etc.

I made one of these about 15 plus years ago by printing a picture of my son in his Army uniform onto fabric. Then I hodge podged it onto a clear plate. I still have that plate today and it never came apart! I only use it on display and not for food. Probably why it lasted so long. It was a fun project! Thanks for bringing back that memory. ♥️

Loving this SO MUCH!! Im thinking it would super cute to do team colors!! It's getting to be college bowl time, so cute for bowl parties, or of course, favorite NFL teams/Super Bowl parties. You could even do your high school's colors & put your athlete's number on it-- perfect for cheerleader/football player homecoming gifts (anybody else have that tradition?). The possibilities are truly endless!! Thank you!!

Love this tutorial because it is so easy, and a fabulous way to showcase the beautiful Christmas fabrics that I collect every year! My son and daughter (ages 8 and 9 the first time we made them) were able to do most of this entire craft themselves, and they were so proud to give to their teachers and bus drivers something they made. Now ages 11 and 12, we have made these every year for the last 3 years!

Several hints for you all. Dollar Tree has clear plates, also you need petroleum jelly (Vaseline) for your Mod Podge around the edges the threads of your MP jar so that it does not glue the lid down (I use it for all my glues and that E6000), also I use wax paper with glues and paints. All of these can be bought at the Dollar Tree. Now we have dishwasher safe Mod Podge, but I see this video was made in 2010, so don't think it was around then. My sewing sheers for fabrics will not come near this type of stuff, I have craft scissors just for this. Loved this idea a lot, so darn cute!

Very nice plate and fun to watch!!Years ago I made a plate by putting my sons military picture on fabric, and then transferred it to a clear plate just as you are doing. That was over twenty years ago and I still have that plate and it looks as good as the day I made it. FYI, keep your keepsake plate out of direct sun or it will fade.

Since this video came out, Mod Podge has come out with a dishwasher safe version. The instructions for using this product are similar to what is shown here, but curing time is much longer. Also note, the object is only good for the top rack of the dishwasher only.

I used the gloss and it shows! ALL of the streaks. I am doing Christmas fabrics so it kind of glitters but not my best work! I think the matte might be better suited. And the backs of mine are rough. I thought about backing with a sealant or even packing tape, but I think I will leave as is. I did have a really bad looking one and I just got it wet, peeled off the fabric and re washed the plate. Tossed the fabric. These are gifts for coworkers (loading up with cookies) so I might tell them if they want they can turn them in next year for any other holidays. I will soak the Christmas off and put on fabric for current holiday. But what a cute, easy thoughtful gift! Thanks MSQC!

Thank you first for such a down to earth quick video of something I made 10 years ago. Best video of several I watched to refresh my memory. Yours was great. I still have plates and material left over to make more. But after I put my 2nd coat of hodge podge on back I noticed the whilte glue is not dry on inside will it dry to clear now that I've already put the 2nd coat on the back.
