    I just ordered 2 of these knifes thank you for the extensive review, really great. I was wondering what kind of glue you used to fix the handle? And should I sharpen it with a grit stone if it's not sharp enough out of the box ??

      Nice! Would love to hear what you think once you get them. Mine was pretty sharp out of the box, but if yours isn’t then yeah go ahead and sharpen on your stones. I used Gorilla Glue brand gel superglue.

      @@AGuThing I've got them. I gave 1 to a friend and kept 1 myself, mine had some rusty spots. So the seller advised me to brush them away. The feel of it is nice and does feel balanced to pinch grip indeed.

    Hey, love your channel! Do you still use the knife and if so would you say that it still behaves like vg10? If you had go guess the rockwell hardness, would you say it is around 60? :)

      Thanks! Yup. It’s become the knife I always bring with me on trips. Still behaves very similarly to my Japanese VG10 knives. The way it feels on the stone when I sharpen it and it’s edge retention qualities, I’d say it’s definitely above 58 and below 62.

    Thanks for the video. I bought 2 Damascus knife blanks that were for sale on Etsy and I purchased 2 for the price of 1 shipped from China. The knives were a bit rough but finished up well and were sharp out of the box. My fear is these knives having caustic substances leeching out of them, and wonder if anyone else has that concern?
    How long did it take to get shipped to you? Mine was a fairly quick 17 days IIRC in Dec. Have you sharpened this to see how the blade reacts to sharpening? Mine have not needed sharpening yet. Thanks for the video and information. If I could get American sourced blades like this I would.

      Not too worried about caustic substances, IMO it’s pretty clear that they are indeed forged, the forging process would burn off any chemicals - that’s why it’s safe to make knives with pipeline steel.
      I don’t remember how long it took to ship but it wasn’t excessive. I’ve sharpened it a few times now. Readily takes a razor sharp edge and holds it well. Sharpening characteristics are similar to 1095 steel.

      I would highly recommend this one. Probably not Japanese VG10, most likely it is Chinese 10cr14cromov which if heat treated properly performs just as well.

    i buy the same and the santoku to. finde that it is worth to add litle more and get a XINZUO that have a perfect fit and fisish, weight about 220g(440c 8" chef guyoto)
    heavy, whait 270g, and tend to have all the weight on the blade
    the fit and finis is not very god, not very bad, but many issues as the factory edge have a defect on the belly curve. have to reprofile it

      Agreed. Xinzuo knives are great quality for the price. I would say for $17 this one was also great value. Same price as a cheap knife from a big box store but much higher in quality and performance.

      maybe we don't get same quality, cause the two i get is too heavy 270g. and the grinding of the edge not even

      dris good point! Quality control isn’t as tight with these cheaper knives. You can get lucky like I was, blade was sharp and evenly ground with just the small issue of the loose bolster, but sometimes you can also be unlucky with a blade that needs to be reprofiled.

      la dallance Thanks for the feedback! I suspect that a lot these knives on Aliexpress are just branded differently and come from the same factory. They really do look exactly the same. Such great value! This one has held up very well over several months of use.

      @@ladallance12 you must see video on chef panko channel. Similar knife from grandsharp made with aus 10 was only 57 hrc. I have European chef 9.5 inch vg-10 Damascus from grandsharp and it have excellent quality with hrc around 60, but his blacksmith aus 10 knife not so good.

      max. 30-40$. I like the japanese style handle (dont know how its called) and blade form.
      there are just too many on ali.

      Giacomo Marrone They are both great value for the money. Both have held up great and easy to sharpen to a very keen edge. If you prefer a knife that a little heavier with a thicker spine, go with this one. If you want a thinner, lighter knife, go with this one: th-cam.com/video/FBripASEqkY/w-d-xo.html
      FYI - That Japanese style handle is called a Wa handle.

    It's fake VG10 if manufactured in China.
    It's against Japanese law to export VG10 steel.
    Thus only VG10 knives made in Japan are actually real VG10.
    China's version is more likely CROMOV steel which is good but not as good as VG10.

      chanchan524 I still do use it, not super often though, maybe every 2 months or so I’ll use it for a week straight. It’s also the knife I take with me on vacations since I’m not worried about losing or damaging it. I’m still impressed with its edge retention and value fir $17!
