David I've been following you for years and tell people you're my "online mentor and coach" :) You've been SPOT ON with your advice and will continue to follow it! I will say I'm FURIOUS with the exam dump cheating but feel like people who cheat will get their just deserts when the fail at their job. I find certifications (only 2 right now but per your advice working on my third of the "Fab 5") help me structure my studies and gives me an ultimate goal and reward. I even used one certification as a prep for an interview! Hope to see you at a CTA event someday as that is my goal as well :)
Needless to say, it's a great content. Well, let me get right to the point. I was in the bad batch. I have taken certs on my own, failed and failed and failed and got frustrated and took the dumps route to speed up things. I never learnt much. I did forcefully stop (it was sooo hard I gotta say) after which when I cleared another cert the confidence level that I got was immense and the joy was so pure. When you know you can do 1 Cert on your own is much greater than getting 5 certs with dumps. (Only YOU know that) Is it hard, of course it is, lot of money, of course it is. Many job openings with more certs, of course yes. I am here to say, it's tough. But in the end hard work pays off. And you get to have your own story to tell someday. It's all about the journey. I know this got long. But its a story which is still going on for me. Good luck to everyone who are taking certs. And David David David. You are just amazing. As Yoda would say, ""Pass on what you have learned." Which you do.. Thanks again..
Unfortunately I can’t say how many consulting groups we’ve worked with and honestly out of the group 1 or 2 employees would stand out and understand our needs. Didn’t matter how many certs they had, real world experience trumped. Now, I agree that for individuals, SA’s, that yes, this is beneficial across the board. Great video!
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and wisdom, I really appreciate it! Your general study methodology was very helpful in helping me get my second certification! On to the third but before that I am going to build an App and try to make some money with it. Best Wishes to you! Thanks again!
Certifications are never a bar for expertise, I have joined my current organization 10 years back without a single certificate. Since then I was forced to write many certifications because of organization mandate. But it’s sad that many consider them as an entry criteria for interviews
Great video David - nice review of the different metrics a hiring manager could look at and why certs still hold value. I’m attempting my Admin cert next month as I earned a Level Up voucher. Go get that architect cert!
David, its always an inspiration to listen to your thoughts and you doing a fantastic job in bringing a dark side of the industry to light. I usually come across situations where in people are running around grabbing number of certs, but hardly a few bother about aligning their certs which they plan doing with their Live Proiect specific experience. Look forward to hear you MOAR n MOAR. Cheers! 👍👍
Thank you for this. Great content, plan to watch all your videos. Need to get back to working through your cert guide. Your on the money about the mental gymnastics.
Thanks for your insights into this topic. Most importantly, THANK YOU for recognizing and continuously supporting military veterans and spouses! The Vetforce (now Trailhead Military) shirt looks great on you!
In all of my experiences of looking for work, my certification has been one of the main reasons I was hired. I only have a few certifications under my belt, Salesforce Admin & Pardot Specialist. What would be your recommendation for a next "level" certification? I've set up entire orgs with Salesforce and Pardot marketing automations.
Hi David, Thank you for making video on this topic, I had 2 certification few years back, but I refused to give maintenance exams because people were using dumps and they were easily getting certs. Another reason - most of the companies ask for the certifications but after joining the organisation they don't even care about certs. I was wrong. I'll do it again.
The numbers are less the resumes go to trash. It's true. With just one Admin certification, I never got any calls until I took it seriously and got certified as a dev and service consult. 3 certs in line , now I get calls even if I don't want to make a switch
Hey David, Could you also make a video for the folks who want to be in the Salesforce ecosystem, but not as a developer or architect? How are opportunities for them in the present and how much room for growth do they have..
Part of the problem is having Salesforce run/administered by people who don't have the skill set to ask good questions. Those are the ones who are fooled by someone who has 9 certs but doesn't know what they're doing - that's an expensive mistake These are the sort of people who will create an org that looks like something out of org confessions. .. The answer - at least to this specific problem- leave the administration of Salesforce in the tech dept. If you hear someone put that up as a thing they want to do, tell them to stop and lay down until the feeling goes away.. or put the phone/computer down and back slowly away from it. They're about to make a really expensive mistake.
Hey David, do you think finishing the Trailhead Trail for a certain certification, let's say the Platform App Builder, is enough to get approval on it or should I search for other courses as complement before trying the exam?
I hate the fact they don't have vender neutral certifications, they don't have online testing, and you have to maintain the certification per year. That's a short time, and if you miss it, you gotta retake it again and pay for the examination again. Edited: Do they have online testing or not?
I personally feel Salesforce certs doesn't matter or there values is degraded now. If you look at the people with 10 certs they don't even know the best practices as well as right approch. Salesforce should focus on the project and portfolio more than certs.
Looks like you grabbed a dirty unwashed wrinkled 4 week old shirt that was balled up in the corner and put it on right before recording this video !!! LOL Great content !!
Do you think there will be time in next 20-30 years where Salesforce Developers need to shift their carrier from Salesforce to something else and start it all over again?
@@dvdkliu Well then thank you for helping us out! Currently studying for the Admin cert exam and been tuning in your channel. Love the content and congratulations on your first sponsor!
You trying to be moral in a world where 20% is real and 80% is hype, brother. Yes, that's what I.T is. There is neither creativity nor spontaneity anymore in Software engineering. In the declarative world of SF, there is no software engineering either. Its an enormous set of tools that have names to be used and they want you to remember these names. If you look at their Cert Exam questions, they want people to 'memorize' (the other word for that is to 'rote'). Creativity and common sense doesn't need 'memorization' of lables and names and digits (like how many records you can import using Data Importer, isn't it ridiculous?) You can find that out in
"Don’t let bad people stop you from doing good things" , just made my day

Thanks for telling me what I knew but was too chicken to tell myself! Love the channel :)

Just passed my PD1 today. It took me hours and hours of hard work. I really do not see how anyone is able to cheat their way through it.
Congrats!!

I love how I feel when I pass a Salesforce cert. It's the only exam in the world I've ever failed. And I've failed more than once.
7:40 Muscle weighs more than fat, so I'm getting closer to my fitness goal! David is so relatable!

U r exactly the same like me dude ...hi5. Bang on target.
I gotta say we're all lucky for the Certified Technical Architect Exam
The numbers are less the resumes go to trash. It's true. With just one Admin certification, I never got any calls until I took it seriously and got certified as a dev and service consult. 3 certs in line , now I get calls even if I don't want to make a switch
YES AND NO. YES it matters if you really know Salesforce by heart. NO if you cannot apply it on your actual job.
Thank you David for sharing this!
Study for that exam David; you got this!
Hey David,
Could you also make a video for the folks who want to be in the Salesforce ecosystem, but not as a developer or architect?
How are opportunities for them in the present and how much room for growth do they have..
Wish me luck... I have two possible fails coming up this month!
The truth has been spoken!
Good stuff, David!
Did David smile when he said "our very first sponsor ... " ?

I became 8x Salesforce certified in 152
Nice one Anna CONGRATS!!!!!!
Excellent video 👍👍 very helpful
Which certification to start from??
Is it bad that I'm thankful you're procrastinating your Technical Architect cert because your videos are super helpful? lmao

Lmao that is accurate
Please let me know how to earn Salesforce Certificate voucher?
Congratulations on securing your first sponsor
Yes.
Do you think there will be time in next 20-30 years where Salesforce Developers need to shift their carrier from Salesforce to something else and start it all over again?
In that scenario, what would you suggest to a person out of college interested to pursue career in Salesforce environment.
yes please more info ob certifications
Unfortunately, brain dumps have been problematic to certifications for a very long time.
