I think this was a key match in Murray's career. The first time he really brought a bit of hysteria to the British crowd and made a big breakthrough in winning their affections. In the second half of 2008 his results improved massively and from then on I knew he could be a multi-Slam winner.
Good old times, the best I've ever seen. Great players everywhere, different styles of play and courts, entertaining matches during the whole event... Sadly in this year the tour started the slow down of the surfaces. The generation of Federer had the best next generation to come, with Nadal already Nº2 since 2005 and the likes of Berdych, Gasquet, Del Potro, Murray, Djokovic, Ancic and many more going around.
Was in attendance on centre court for this EPIC. My first and only Wimbledon, i was 13 and I had a brilliant time with my dad - we got tickets from the local club and jumped at the opportunity :)
First time I had ever been to Wimbledon and watched this!! Emotional watching it again as saw myself clearly in the crowd with my late Mum. The atmosphere was just so incredible. We eventually got out about 10.30pm!
Watching this after Andy's two epic 5 setters against Berrettini and Kokkanakis Australian Open. Caught a glimpse of a young Dan Evans in the front row at beginning of 5th set. Go Andy.
I had forgotten just how great this match was Can remember being glued to the telly watching it I thought at one time that Richard would be one of Andy’s great rivals because he is very talented - as it turned out he never fulfilled his potential
One of many Gasquet chokes at big tournaments. I think he certainly had the talent to win slams, particularly here on grass where his game was really suited.
@@Onmysheet yeah definitely Murray the better all court player but on grass they were both excellent ,gasquet 2 semi finals here lost to Federer after five set epic vs roddick had to play the next day ,and then Novak Djokovic lost to probably the 2 best players ever whatever order
It's weird to see Gasquet's forehand as a weapon here. It's mad how a talented player like him let it become such a hindrance for the rest of his career.
I remember watching this on TV at the time and the suspense during the fifth set was killing! I still shudder to think what the reaction of the players and the crowd would have been had Murray not served the match out at 5-4 because Alan Mills would definitely have stopped play as it was so dark.
gosh it is so strange to view this and hear the commentating box completely treat gasquet as though he is to be feared and revered. i mean obviously to this day he's a man with real decent talent, but when he plays in the last handful of years, there's that unsaid feeling like nothing much is expected, result-wise. just the expectation tagged onto him from this point in time truly makes me sad for him. i hope he's okay, as a person.
Well Gasquet was ranked number 8 seed (higher than Murray at the time) and reached the Wimbledon semi finals the year before this, so it wasn't that strange.
I always watching this this is the day murray so strong hes speed ano no injured and now hes legend I hope murray still the one big 4 murray, djokovic, nadal, federer
'crossroads' match which turned Murray into one of the greatest comeback players of the Open Era while Gasquet's into a vulnerable player who was able to lose big leads on a regular basis
2012 Australian open is the best tournament ever. Last years Wimbledon final was epic but the 2014 and 2015 matches had better quality. Djokovic was rubbish in last years final tennis wise
See a lot of people criticised Murray for anger and negativity. But when he went into his quiet shell like he did in the second set here he lost all his heart and determination. When he got angry but used it to motivate himself he always had his best results
The one I've seen first in the fourth round live although Rafa Nadal won the tournament in a epic 5 set classic Wimbledon thriller of all time Vs Roger Federer.
Yeah, a great Wimbledon. Is this still the longest match Murray played at Wimbledon? Or is it the one against Tsonga at Wimbledon 2016? I loved that match too. Shame that Murray whipped up the crowd to such an extent that Gasquet was booed when he returned to the court. I would have loved to see that ability rewarded with a win. I was there and the sound of the ball coming off Gasquet's racquet in the first two sets was like canon fire. He completely lost his confidence at the end of the third set.
It took a final being played in absolute darkness for Wimbledon to finally say "Let there be light". Never mind that the match should have been suspended; it would have been VERY different in proper conditions with lights and a roof preventing all that stop-start repeated non-sense!
True. I also feel Wimbledon CC should be playing 4/5 matches in a day. Sad to realise we won't be seeing even a single match at CC this year tho :( Btw, there is a tennis WhatsApp group (ATP/WTA combined) for tennis enthusiasts. I can't believe this was 13 years ago. The journey Andy has been on since then has been incredible.
Wrong, it was 16 years ago 🙃
Never seen Murray so pumped up for a match! Amazing comeback
One of the most nerve wrecking and glorious matches for this Murray fan!
2:41:33 Shot of the tournament
It makes me wants to see again the Gasquet/Roddick of 2007. The Gasquet's backhand was in fury.

What a classic match. Enjoyed every second of it. Andy showed true grit and heart to come back from such a deficit. Just wonderful to see it again.
This was the game that got me into tennis, that winning shot from Murray to take the tie break set was incredible.
Gasquet used to hit hard like this, amazing.
John Mcenroe: "5 sets, Murray." He says this TWENTY MINUTES IN. This is why he is the GOAT.
24:16 indeed.

I thought at one time that Richard would be one of Andy’s great rivals because he is very talented - as it turned out he never fulfilled his potential
Gasquet’s lacked a Top 5 power game - no killer shot. Also his h2h record vs The Big 3 was abysmal so he hardly ever got passed the 4th round at a gs.

With Federer & Nadal around, there was no chance.
If Murray could do it, so could Gasquet.
@@davd1986 But Murray was a better player in his prime than Gasquet was.

The atmosphere sounds incredible.
I wish Andy Murray was my dad

Lacoste and Fred Perry kits look amazing
Loved Andy’s Fred Perry kits
Wish he’d been wearing Fred Perry in 2013 #nostalgia

He was a different player 05-08 than the rest of his career
Well Gasquet was ranked number 8 seed (higher than Murray at the time) and reached the Wimbledon semi finals the year before this, so it wasn't that strange.
At this point Murray wasn't at his peak yet, so it's understandable that Gasquet was a threat in this match.

What a frightening talent Gasquet was (is).

Golden days
Gasquet had all the talent in the world but the mental side let him down.
Injuries and a weak tolerance for pain and discomfort.
'crossroads' match which turned Murray into one of the greatest comeback players of the Open Era while Gasquet's into a vulnerable player who was able to lose big leads on a regular basis
Andia Muzzerwrenko and 'ol ma Murray' = legends
Gasquet with another drive and mentality we would have been the best, that talent has no one today
An ATP FH would be nice too.
For all the tennis 'watchers' from 2010 onwards: this is what real tennis was all about.
So we gonna ignore stuff like 2012 Australian Open, or 2018 Wimbledon Semi, Maybe 2019 Wimbledon Final. Why is watchers in quotation marks?
2012 Australian open is the best tournament ever. Last years Wimbledon final was epic but the 2014 and 2015 matches had better quality. Djokovic was rubbish in last years final tennis wise

It would have been fun being present that day Murray found a way to beat Gasquet
And Johnny Mac in the booth! Even better!
The Wimbledon crowd and Murrays soon to be trademark belligerence eventually got to to Gasquet. A classic.
2:12:46 so good

The story of Gasquet's career. Always close but no cigar. Same thing happened vs Kyrgios in 2017 when he blew a gazillion of match points.
Lleyton Hewitt vs. Andy Roddick Wimbledon 2009 full match possible?

Gasquet missed his career! He deserved better... Too bad!😏🤔

Au mieux Gasquet battait Murray en trois sets, puis se fait battre par Nadal en quart
Andy this year fantastic❤❤❤17/8/2021

Is this the latest match on Wimbledon without roof? It finished at 9:31 pm, I think players could barely see the ball
Gasquet should go back towearing the cap, it was his good luck char
Didn’t bring him much luck in this video.
Well done Andy 👏🎾❤️
3:09:22 man he's so cool :")
Andy "drop shot" Murray
upload gasquet roddick
Didn’t know Murray had a Nike contract back in 08! I always thought he was a barricade guy!
Lol 08 is old?
3:58:23 --- Andy celebrating fiercely throwin his wristbands at the crowd, behind a ball boy who stares at the crowd like a barbie doll 😂😂😂
Hawk eye should negate the need for line judges!
probably will in the future, there should be an initial call from the chair umpire and quick clarification from hawkeye
Here after they both lost crazy matches in Paris
Good one tbh
Rafa won the tournament. 🙂
yeah
Gasquet has more natural talent than Djokovic and nadal but the other two just pushed themselves so much harder and mentally so strong.
Nice
Disappointing for Gasquet, he was looking so strong the first 2 sets
The point at 2:41:34 was ridiculous.
