Replacing Bowden Tube and Couplings | Anycubic Mega-S Capricorn Upgrade

  • The bowden tube kept slipping out of the coupling causing print errors. I upgraded the couplings and the tube to Capricorn and now have consistent results again. The Anycubic Mega-S is an amazing 3D printer for the price, but this upgrade should fix the one problem I have been having.

The Capricorn bowden tube is nice, but honestly I wouldn't recommend upgrading it unless you are having problems like me, or you are trying to print flexible filament. I don't usually print flexible filament so I haven't been having issues before or after this upgrade.

Those fittings are not valves. They are "push to release/connect fittings". Also, you don't need to spin the tubing cutter when cutting plastic type tubing. Just press the blade down onto the tubing and it will cut straight through.
Thanks for the otherwise very simple and straightforward tutorial on replacing the tube.

I used to have trouble removing filament on my Anycubic. I was frequently not fast enough to reel the filament up onto the spool before the melted end of the filament hardened and formed a nasty ball on the end, causing the filament to get stuck in the fittings. Now I heat the hotend, manually feed a bit of filament so that I can see it freely oozing out of the hotend... And now the best part: with my left hand I press the release on the extruder and with my right, I puck up the entire filament spool and swing it back behind me at arm's length. Way faster than spooling and I've never had a problem since. Thanks for the video!

Bought the same kit/upgrade because of this video, being brand new to 3d printing I had no idea what was going wrong with my bowden tube since it all of the sudden started to pop out. I installed the #4 couplings and tub onto my anycubic Chiron and it's currently running some PETG right now.

The upgraded Capricorn tube has been amazing. I didn't realize how much better a good Bowden tube could be.

I was looking for tips on doing a cold pull on my Mega S and this was very helpful in explaining how to remove the Bowden tube. Thank you.

When I change the filament and the plastic block at the end, I simply cut the filament, leaving the blocking small piece, and then push it with the new filament, all the way through the hot extruder. since it is only a 2 cm bit, it's pretty fast and does not waste much filament.

This issue has basically gone away with this Capricorn tubing. I think it keeps the melted part of the filament smooshed down so that it can fit backwards through the extruder no problem.

I just heat up my hot end then hold in the trigger on the extruder and wind the spool backwards until the filament comes out, not broke a valve yet. Sometimes it needs a little tug at the end and a small guide part comes out but that just pushes back in after u trim the blob of the end of the filament.

My Bowden tube bolt connected to my hot end came loose and won’t go back so I’m thankful there’s a video showing a replacement bowden tube

When I replace my mega s filament. I have the system hot. Push the filament till starts to come out of print head, then quickly pull it out using the release tab. The filament usually makes it out past the feeder motor assembly. I then cut off the melted leftovers from the end of the filament. Does not always work, if it gets stuck on the first pull just repeat. Good luck.

the coupling my extruder just spins. Did you have to hold the other side of the extruder coupling when replacing it?

Thank you very helpful. I recently got the Mega S and for some reason on my last print the tube kept coming out. So is the coupling just no good? PS to remove the filament you mentioned you'd remove the tube. I have been just holding the little release level and pulling the filament out. Most of the time it would get stuck and pull out this little plastic guide, then I'd have to cut the filament and put the guide back. Wonder if that's causing a problem.

Removing the filament has been much easier since I put the Capricorn tube in there. I think it does a better job shaping the hot filament as I pull it out, so I no longer have to pull the tube out of the coupler.

Heyo! I really can’t seem to unscrew the valve in the feeder end! It just keeps spinning. Any suggestions?

You may need to take the plastic cover off to grip the inside part, since the part inside can spin sometimes

The biggest pro you might find with Capricon is that you can reduce your retraction distance because of the tighter tolerances. This is especially useful with PETG since retraction settings are crucial.

Is this the same as the anycubic vyper?

lol all you have to do is use plyers lol you forgot to say unload your filament first your going to get some people that are new to 3d printing getting their ploys and racking there 3d printer

Catastrophic to watch your videos...if someone use anytime the wrong tools than i can't take you seriously! If there is a nut use a open-end wrench and if there are allen screw, use a single allen wrench and not this kind of combi bs which you have for your circle repairing...
