    03:26 - how are people to lazy to plug in their car and go inside their home instantly afterwards vs. having to go to a gas station - often in a detour - and then wasting time until the tank fills up (while inhaling all these miraculous fumes...), wasting time paying and then having to drive home first.

      Sam explains it. Many plug in hybrids are company cars that people don’t bother to plug in. So they don’t end up paying for their fuel themselves and just run on gas.

  • @rozonoemi9374
    @rozonoemi9374 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Legacy should keep on making EV even when they lose money since volume production will bring there cost down & keep the profits from ICE sales to compensate for lost money. This is the only way they can be saved or bust!

      Even if that were the case today, if you look in the UK for example, rapid public charging is more expensive than filling with fuel, with only around 50% of homes being suitable for home charging.
      Unless you have home charging, the downsides of pure EV are far too high at the moment.

    • @Beatles4Sale.
      @Beatles4Sale. 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@jamie-ck6js charging at home in many parts of the U.S. is super cheap…less than 10 cents per kilowatt. But I do agree with you. If a person is reliant mostly in charging at a supercharger most of the time it is more expensive in most places. Hopefully we will have a huge level two charging infrastructure one day that is cheap. For example 45 minute grocery shopping…just daily chores and charging can be included in lower cost charging.
      My fear is that companies like BP and Shell that make billions of dollars per year will take over the charging network. They make so much money now it’s a drop in the bucket for them to upgrade their gas stations to charge cars. For example just California has over 500 BP stations. If this happens I’m concerned that the charging price will remain artificially high even if their costs are low through solar, etc.

      @@i6power30 No, there’s actually not enough. Sam quotes EV numbers continuously. That’s fair enough, EVs are his interest and after all this is an EV promotional channel. But what’s missing here is that the number of ICE cars on the roads are also increasing, so there’s a market for more gas stations. Same in Australia, we are building more fuel stations here and the number of diesel vehicles here has increased. EVs here are on a slow rise.

    Depends what you are comparing as to the percentages. Jan / Feb / March sales compared to Oct / Nov / Dec are down with with Hybrid / PHEV being the main drivers breaking records. Take PHEV and BEV share is 13%.
    Plug less hybrids are the fastest growing segment at the moment.
    BEV is definitely slowing and hybrids seems will soon dominate the 'ev' market share.

    Main stream media whoever they are has said the growth in EV sales has cooled not stopped. The real truth is that BEV production capacity has exceeded demand. Thus the glut of BEV's in China, the pull backs from selling BEV's by the major ICE OEM's, and the .99% interest rate now offered by Tesla.

    The euro electricity grid is outdated, cannot support full electrification of transport and heating. Cheap electric batteries are a must in the near future to avoid the grid, and to exploit home solar to the max. Cheap chemical batteries for long term heat energy storage (heat in, heat out) are also in development, as a complementary system (with solar heat panels) to off grid solar electricity. Private 'off grid green energy' investments are too high for the middle class and lower class at the moment. Governments only "green" tax us, and waste our money on subsidized wind turbines, so hopefully tech innovation and natural "green" market developments will give us an affordable future.

    The US EV sales growth has slowed down considerably in Q1, 2024 vs. previous year , 2023 according Kelly BlueBook, quoted by Cox report. Tesla share of US market has dropped but still leading. Their profit for Q1, 2024 also dropped by ~1/2 to around US $1Bil. That was reason for Musk firing of 10% of his workers worldwide and the entire team of Supercharger.
    The only thing that can reverse the trend is price cut on EV prices to compete with more abundantly supplied of ICE vehicles this year after supplies shortage problems. In addition, customers now do not put up with Dealer Adjustment fee added on ICE vehicles.
    Toyota dealers virtually sold every hybrid vehicles off their delivery trucks while their full EV had stay on the lot for more than 100 days. In April, Toyota resorted to cutting prices on this vehicle( more than $15k) and resorted to cheap lease of $139/month . That actually got customers attention and created traffic on this EV. Now the cheap lease has expired.
    So lowering price on EV is the formula to keep EV moving again. That was evident on Tesla big sales bump in late 2023 and recent Toyota experiment

      It's also incredibly challenging times for Chinese EV companies. NIO and Xpeng lost money in 2023, but Li Auto was able to make full year profits for the very first time. The competition is so fierce, some Chinese companies are selling their new models at a loss. The current Chinese market is a race to the bottom, so nobody knows how many Chinese EV automakers will survive. Best guesstimate is that China now has an excess production capacity of 18 million cars. (Toyota sold 10 million units worldwide in 2023.)

EVs are selling, yes, but so are ICE cars. An article in Tagesspiegel (Berlin) a couple of weeks ago put the ratio of car sales as 5 ICE cars sold to one EV. As EV sales increase, so do ICE cars, it’s virtually a linear curve. We’ll probably end up by 2030/2035 with about 30% EV, 30% ICE, and 30% hybrid after everything settles down.

I can tell you know my 1965 Chrysler Valiant AP6 will sit for a month and if I keep a battery charger that turns on when it falls below 12 volts then once it is at 12 it turns off. I can jump into my 59 year old car check the brakes and after I warm up the motor I take off. Now these EV’s I don’t think they might even start. The brakes if the parking brake was on would be rusted stuck. You’d need chargers probably all run by diesel 😂 and they might start to work but again the brakes if rusted will be ruined the electronics if they start up might work but I would not pay $1000 for one of these stupid environmental disasters. These EV’s will end up in land fills with our kids, kids in the future will be accidentally finding these toxic dumps it’s just so ridiculous and those who pushed these stupid vehicles should be jailed. I’m giving old Elon a year before he gets arrested for stock fraud or some kind of fraud as he has been lying for over a decade.

    You are mixing together PHEV and BEV and mini EV sales; BEV sales are down everywhere. Hybrids are up and mini EVs are slightly up; but they could only be sold in a few places with no safety standards like China; where they can drive without an airbag; shock absorbing bumpers or probably even safety belts.

    i agree we need PHEV for trucks. 25% of truck owners tow in US and another large chunk like to think they would tow one day. then you have people who love going into nature. I dont want to be looking for a charger on my way to skiing, backpacking, paddleboarding, etc. Then you have people who drive half way across the country and just dont want to bother with route planning. And you have people that will just never get over range anxiety. I just hope we can have PHEVs that get 50-100 miles electric range. I am sorry. As an advocate I argued for EVs for year, but finally I listened to people. a huge chunk will never go for an EV, but these people can compromise. Also, my mom and dad live in rural areas that occasionally get snowed in that have zero fast charging. the will never be able to go EV. so that personal realization just lets me not be overzealous. they both want EVs but there just is not charging.

      Twice todays range are within reach very soon. And todays ranges will be much cheaper. Oil company will start to decommission gas stations and build charging stations. There will be a switch where range anxiety starts to hit petrol drivers. Will happen before end of this decade.

      fast charging is going to lag in USA. china has better fast charging and batteries in EVs that can handle it. its going to be really slow in the US. rationally i know have an EV with 300 miles range is enough. but so many people are going to want to have way more. people cannot be talked out of range anxiety very much. I think EVs are going to have to go past 500 miles of epa range, because real world range drops with fast driving and climate control. plus a bit of battery degradation. luckily I dont think that is far away. in a decade we might even have batteries beyond 1000 miles. that may seem ridiculous now, but if batteries improve enough that is really nice because then you only have to charge a few times a mont. you can go on long roadtrip and not even have to charge once. complete the whole roadtrip without ever having to worry about charging. charging still takes a lot of effort and time for many roadtrips. its nice that evs dont have oil changes and that saves you time, but people want to go on trips and not worry about being stranded. chargers can be broken. long lines happen. Ideally the public would realize the threat of climate change and just deal with these inconvinieces, but people hat inconveniece. they will even go into debt to avoid. it.@@i6power30

      @@kurtlowder3276 It's a waste of resources and inefficient to carry around so much batter weight. It's much better to have charging stations everywhere, you'll never have to use app to look for one, it's in every street corner, in every parking lot etc. Then even 100 mile range EV is not a problem for many people.
