  • After 13K miles I noticed that my chain has been stretched to its limit and hear it slapping the rear swing arm so it was time for a replacement. Had my friend Vern help me out with the making of this video, and wanted to give him a Big thanks!. below is a link to what chain and sprocket I used for this install. You can also change the Gear Ratio to ADD or Decrease speed.

At 8:42, the purpose of the sprocket guard is to keep the chain from catching the studs should it ever come off the sprocket and instantly locking your rear wheel.

It's like a chain catcher bro! If your chain broke it keeps it from jamming up on your sprocket bolts and locking up your rear tire.

thanks for solving the mystery of that part for me , for the longest time I didn't know what it was for, not even the dealership where I bought it at the time didn't know what it was for. So im wondering if that's the main purpose of it why doesn't all bikes have this!?

AC Productions Yeah I'm not sure man! I left mine off and my old dirt bike didn't have the studs it had thous set bolts that sat flush with the sprocket. with proper maintenance it should be fine.. Ride safe man!...

Remember, these guys know what they're doing.
Don't just wander into this project on your own willy-nilly. Having a chain malfunction/disconnect for any reason while traveling at speed is a very dangerous situation, the chain won't necessarily slink right off onto the road, I've seen chains get jammed up in the sprocket assembly which locks up the rear tire immediately with no warning. And this was after the dealership replaced the chain and "applied incorrect tension", so even "professionals" can mess this up. Great video but I probably won't be changing my own chain anytime soon, but the dealership also isn't exactly a risk-free option either. I'll just set my set my bike on fire when the time comes for a new chain I guess.

Also, if you do attempt your own chain and sprocket install, use the service manual as a guide, not this video. It contains multiple incorrect practices and shortcuts.
