They reason he don't sound great is because he is shouting due to having a low sensitvity mic because of the heavy music. When he sings in podcasts without the music he is better.
to me it sounds more like a mixing problem. Since this is a new song, they probably don't have the optimal mix for live performances yet. Listen to other songs from this concert, like Not Gonna Die. Her voice is really clear and good there. She's on tune the whole time, I really think it's just a mixing issue.
Or maybe its just because they dont use playback or other things in this performance... They have used playback in earlier live performances. And i dont think she sounds bad here. She just sounds like its a real voice without any effects...
