The black orb animation popping into existence like that makes me think that the big guy was supposed to have a melee attack, but they added the orb last minute
My man had it all - a stable job exterminating invasive plants, lively colleagues, brain-intensive work environment. Could cry from the rooftops how great the boss was, and crushed anyone who would disagree. And look at him now - got himself into a bad company, doing some dark things with his own hands. And the new boss is some kind of toxic snake, clearly lost her head from all the power she has. Don't do undead curse kids.
The thing that makes Dark Souls really interesting to me is the vast majority of these monsters which would usually be trolls or some other fantasy creature are actually just deformed humans
Hmm the rider guy moved his arm too when the big guy fires the Hex, but a little bit delayed. I wonder if the rider originally fired the hexes. That would probably make more sense.
Fun fact when you kill them, the small rider will either fall off the mount forward or backwards, leading to the big guy to collapses on top of him to finish them off. God I love ds2
Little details like this are rife in the Souls Series. I love them. I love how grim dark and whimsically silly Dark Souls gets and it doesn’t ever feel jarring or off at all.
This enemy is SUCH a good example of how to place a saddle on a standing creature... Really gnarly, tho, big nails in his back to stretch an anchor line between and THEN put weight on... At least the big trolls in ER with their pierced torsos seemed to be made of rock or wood, and less, like, bloody :(
I really like this enemy! The design is unique and cool. But I think this also sets the mood for Harvest valley. This is the first enemy you encounter and for me at least, shows how the workers in Harvest valley don’t work here willingly… which makes me sympathize with the inhabitants… and also shows how far Myhta has fallen as a ruler.
“Giants!! Make sure the Bearer of the Curse doesn't enter the windmill until I come and get him.” “Not to enter the windmill... even if you come and get him.” “No, no. Until I come and get him.” “Until you come and get him, we're not to leave the windmill.” “No, no, no. You stay outside the windmill, and make sure he doesn't enter the windmill.” “And you'll come and get him.” “Right.” “We don't need to do anything, apart from just stop him from leaving the windmill.” “No, no. Entering the windmill.” “Entering the windmill, yes.” “All right?” “Right. Oh, if, if, if, uh, if, if, uh, if, if, if, we... oh, if... oh…” “Look, it's quite simple. You just stay here, and make sure he doesn't enter the windmill. All right?” “Oh, I remember, uh, can he enter the windmill with us?” “No, no, no, no, you just keep him in here, and make sure…” “Oh yeah, we'll keep him in here, obviously, but if he had to enter the windmill, and we were with him…” “No, just keep him in here…” “Until you, or anyone else…” “No, not anyone else. Just me.” “Just you.” “Get back.” “Get back.” “All right?” “Right, we'll stay here until you get back.” “And make sure he doesn't enter the windmill.” “What?” “Make sure he doesn't enter the windmill.” “The Bearer of the Curse?” “Yes, make sure he doesn't enter the windmill.” “Oh, yes, of course.*points at second giant* I thought you meant him. You know, it seemed a bit daft to me, if I were to keep him out when he's a fellow giant.” “Is that clear?” “Oh, quite clear. No problems.” “Right.” *Covetous Demon turns to enter the windmill, both giants follow him* “Where are you going?” “We're coming with you.” “No, no, no. I want you to stay here and make sure he doesn't enter the windmill.” “Oh, I see. Right.”
Huh, the guy riding them has a helmet similar to the Marionette Soldier Birdhelm from Elden Ring. Wonder what the design philosophy behind puppetry and elongated masks is in Fromsoft.
Reckon the riders just forgot how to make them do anything but hexes. Those who are attuned to darkness without the willpower to control themselves are consumed by it etc etc.
I even like the transition to the palace of the Iron King. After Dark Souls 2, it became perfectly valid that different kingdoms are on top of each other -- to me, this is just the same. The elevator is there to make regular use of a spatial anomaly.
I always assumed he was a mutated undead as he uses dark magic which is specifically a human ability in the setting. But unmasked he looks more like a giant or a troll.
I think it would have been interesting if you could kill the rider, and that would both disable the dark magic attack, but also make the ogre much more aggressive
What is lame about this enemies is that the area in which they are doesn’t favor them, the orb attack can easily crush with the high ground and it can miss same easily when you’re at the same ground they are, I mostly stay far from them and attacking with soul arrows and my crossbow mostly to avoid the poison gas but in close quarters they’re still not a big deal, I NEVER see that stamp or jump attack (and I spent pretty much time farming this guys)plus they’re very slow. This game really deserves a remake. P. D: I played the basic edition because is the only one I could find on spanish, english is not my native language.
Unrelated comment. But yeah. After playing through it for the first time. I do like it. Of course it gives a different experience from 1 and 3, and despite having problems (manual attack for locked on enemies, Agility/ADP, no i-frames for boss fog, etc) I did enjoy it.
At this point any enemy I don't recognize I guess is in DS2 I don't think it was as bad as everyone said but I admit it stands out from the rest in it's own special way
Why are DS2 enemies so crusty looking in terms of poly count and textures when compared to DS1? I'm guessing it was FS trying to make a compromise for the originally intended lighting system.
Holy s-, I would've never assumed this enemy has such a versatile attack kit. Are those even in the game or are they cut for whatever reason? If they're not cut then it's a sad example of some of DS2's enemies' unfinished AI...
Like many enemies in DS2. And, could use a better placement. Nobody's gonna try fighting them up-close in poison mist. I also, see missed opportunity to show what happens if rider gets knocked over, how would a giant behave in this situation?
Dark Souls 2 was my first Souls and I have much care for this game. I don't think the game deserves that hate, but to be fair it has so much wasted potential, some bossfights are meaningless and just nonsense like Covetous Demon, Prowling Magus, Skeleton Lords. Not to mention the normal enemies and areas once you pass to the next one, you'll just forget them.

I never saw this enemy do any attack other than the dark orb until now
fr
I've seen them do the swipes at 2:01 on some occasions, but everything else is completely new to me
I wanna know y this enemy doesn't do any of the other moves it has. I've literally only ever seen it do the dark orb.
Pretty sure mortal kombat has this mob as a character in it. Should have all those moves in ds2.
You learn something new everyday
0:48 me when i forgot to unfreeze the chicken and mom comes home
"I'm nearly home. Did you take out the chicken?"
"Yeah, but it's still frozen. This chicken must be weird! I did take it out, promise!"

The face of true horror
It has cute eyes

Maybe a grab, looks like he's trying to catch someone
@@L-or3vr A grab where he just smashes the player against his abs lol
Probably a rock throwing animation. Makes more sense than the orb, but still fits the animation
@@TheSpiritForceGD That actually makes a ton of sense, especially since he's a big bruiser type enemy
Looks so clueless almost making it adorable
Right it's like he doesn't even want to fight he's being forced, my player would've been chill with them
Yeeeeessss
I still remember my first encounter, being damn near 1-shot by these things being surprise hexers lol
They have a Cave Troll!
They are riding a Cave Troll!
Just thought I'd let you know.
All bros missing is a phone line pole in his hand

Don't do undead curse kids.
Ayy PvZ reference my man.
I know a lot of things in fantasy can be described this way, but this really looks like something out of Lord of the Rings movies

@@TheSilly6403all tomorrows in a nutshell
DS2 definitely feels more like a corrupted classical fairy tale more so than the other games in the series especially too.

Yeah wish he could get his revenge on the rider, it's funny when he belly flops the rider during the death animation lol
The goddamn guy on top looking like a Darkwraith
You know in their death animation the overseer gets crushed by the big guys ass when he hits the ground.
So funny, sometimes he falls forward and gets belly flopped too, imagine seeing those huge abs descend upon you 😂
I always wanted that Overseer mask
Me too
Ohh!? It's pretty good tho!
damn
Whyd the music have to crescendo when taking off the big dude's hood... lol.
The giant’s jacked!

This enemy is so badass, always loved their design.
Plague ogryn with overseer riding it, just pure win.
100% pure sex
Those dudes can one shot you with company of champions on. The design is very good, and with the atmosphere of harvest valley is dope af 🤘
Looks like a Peter Jackson LOTR creature.
DS2 has some of the best enemy designs in the whole series. Love this guys design so much (Pursuer too)

The overseer on top should have been able to swing those chains with the sharp things at the end around the mount
That stomp attack looks like hell to deal with.
Bros literally in outlast 2
Got Master Blaster over here
Huh, the guy riding them has a helmet similar to the Marionette Soldier Birdhelm from Elden Ring. Wonder what the design philosophy behind puppetry and elongated masks is in Fromsoft.
It all comes down to plague doctor mask, which was designed to "scare away" spirits of disease.
Roach from Heavenly Sword.
Ferra Torr from MKX
I'm more upset that destroying the Windmill doesn't really remove the poison cloud from the area.
0:48 bro said 😦

Poor guy, he looks shell-shocked. Prolly huffin all those fumes.
0:48 XD
1:06 why is his face in liveleak quality tho
I honestly expected it to be a close quarter fighter when i first saw it, it looks like a puncher, not a dark sorcerer
For real he could have had some great grab attacks, imagine he just smashes the player on his abs
@sirdrell24 there is already a dominatrix pyromancer, it would fit right in (that's what she said). Also sekiro giant wrestling moves
" *I expected you to be.* " ... " *Bigger. ...* " - Baldur God Of War Ragnarok
I would lose it if that thing ever jumped at me
Look on the bright side at least he doesn't belly flop you
I always thought this enemy was so cool
So THERE ARE actually giants without holes on their faces
I feel like I remember farming these guys for spices or whatever, and I never ONCE recall seeing them do that stamp attack.
Strength but wizard
Reckon the riders just forgot how to make them do anything but hexes. Those who are attuned to darkness without the willpower to control themselves are consumed by it etc etc.
I think they’re solid as slow af crazy high damage casters
They just seem crazy damage because nobody builds dark defense, if you have the right equipment, they may as well be throwing black water balloons.
Dark Souls II had potential for a lot of world building, there's so much fantasy worked into it over some of the other entries.
wrong, it should have shown more sunlight medals
I didnt know they could do dragon ball double knuckle attack haha
Ferra and Torr over here. I love these guys. Fromsoft will not be forgiven for not adding that riders helmet first us until it appears in Nightreign.
I did saw one. Especially Plants vs Zombies.
Remind me of Gargantuar and Imp.
I don't care what anyone says, this and Earthen Peak r some of the best areas of ds2.
I even like the transition to the palace of the Iron King. After Dark Souls 2, it became perfectly valid that different kingdoms are on top of each other -- to me, this is just the same. The elevator is there to make regular use of a spatial anomaly.

It probably doesn’t actually know its target 🤔
Whats the music?? Sounds familiar but i can’t remember where is it from

Master Blaster runs barter town.
When I Saw This Enemy For The First Time, I Use Crossbow Because Im Woried With Their Attack. But, They Are Actually A Weak Enemy
Someone taught master blaster soul magic! Probably just master though, blaster was born with INT as a dump stat…
Are some of those movesets cut from the game? I've only ever seen these guys do like two of the shown moves.

Wth is the Gargantuar from plants vs zombies doing in dark souls 2 without a telephone pole and shooting dark orbs?
with all those moves it would be better boss than covetous demon ngl
Reminds me of the gargantuar from pvz
One day, a group of fans are going to fix Dark Souls 2 and turn it into the game we all know it has the potential to be.
