  • Kora, a bakery in Queens, is known for doughnuts filled with traditional Filipino flavors. Kimberly Camara runs Kora out of her small apartment where she, her boyfriend, her mom, and some extended family work tirelessly each week to pump out over 500 donuts to eager customers. While the doughnut flavors change week to week, the signature leche flan doughnut is the star of the show, it’s a brioche doughnut filled with leche flan cream, topped with leche flan and burnt caramel, and then sprinkled with powdered sugar.

we are everywhere since the Spanish colonization. We got more widespread everywhere because we have a lot of overseas Filipino workers mostly because some jobs, such as in healthcare, have low wages and a lot of work abuses here in the Philippines, which is sad. Mostly, being an OFW is a necessity rather than a want.

For a business like this, it's probably cheaper to rent an apartment (studio?) than a pricey restaurant space that would lock them into a longer lease. Plus since people are fleeing NY, I bet they got a good deal
At first I thought it was going to be two people living and running their shop from a tiny apartment, too, and I thought...hmm where do they sleep in there? lol
