The story behind this bakery is inspiring. A couple who lost their jobs during the pandemic started making these donuts from their apartment. Fast forward to today: They have a waiting list of 10k who want these donuts. Crazy!

Kora is actually the name of the late grandmother of the Filipina owner/chef. After her lola died, they run through her stuffs and found the recipe book containing the leche flan recipe. These doughnuts were made to pay homage to her departed lola.❤️

@@Foodiebunked also the chips are purple yams (different from Ube yam) but the starch was soaked out, just to give a different texture to the donut. Ube can only be shipped to the USA (not grown in USA) and they use frozen ube (that’s already pre-mashed) shipped to their store. Still yummy though, only Taro is grown in the USA but Ube is specific to the Philippines.

Actually many people here in the Philippines knows how to make a leche flan. So that's no secret. It's just that their lola didn't teach their grandkids how to make them.

The Fact that they need to be introduced to the Philippines means that those donuts might as well be called Puerto Rican Donuts or Peruvian Donuts. How can Filipino food culture progress when everything that gets hyped in social media are just stuff invented by foreign entrepreneurs. Call it an Ube Donut. But Filipino Donut just sounds Desperate.

The "Ube Chip" is actually a purple yam. The Ube is in the custard filling.....
The reason is because Ube is a pervasive species and can only be brought to the U.S. in a frozen form. The purple yam has a similar flavor and is a reasonable substitute if you have to wait for shipping or simply can't afford too....

There are more dessert recipes in the Filipino culinary tradition than main course foods. Its probably because it was one of the main sugar suppliers in the world up to the year 1900. So yeah.

It's steep, especially when compared to chain donuts, but when I think of the quality of ingredients to the packaging and design, these are comparable to a dessert in a fine-dining restaurant. I wish they shipped. I love everything about this business.

Kora maybe a popular Filipino donut in New York. But still you have to have a lot of money to make it big to beat Krispy Kreme. More funds and more branches in the USA. Popular donuts available here in the Philippines are Krispy Kreme and Jco donuts. The only difference of Kora donuts are they use Filipino products like leche flan and ube and others. Remember Cronuts? I saw it on the news. Everyone was crazy lining up just to buy the cronuts. You have to eat it immediately. Now it just went puffttt. The one who invented it didn't want to show how to make the secret recipe but time flies it finally did.

  • @aikitchiexe

It is literally ALWAYS a problem! They just shove a little bit on one side of the donut while the rest is dry. But not only where these stuffed 360, but the donut was just so so so buttery! 😍
