  • Mistakes:
    1) I missed some spots with primer. SHOULD HAVE A MIRROR ON HAND or otherwise inspected 360 before proceeding to cement.
    2) I forgot to give it a spin after the coupling is in place. would give it a 1/3 turn after it's in place to help spread cement.
    3) I misidentified the cans and added primer on the left coupling edge after placement when I meant to add only cement
    4) I should have dry fit the left side while doing the right side to guarantee alignment, and actually waited for right side to cure before doing left side.
    5) I should have removed masking tape right after I was done with the cement to get a nice clean line
    Video omissions:
You should take time to dry fit first, adjusting alignment to perfection and adding shims to the supports where necessary. use a long straight-edge on various sides of the pipe to make it as straight as possible. A vertical slope is expected and important, but this line was not constructed horizontally straight with the joist either. so every hanger is a different offset from the joist.
The higher of to two joints began dripping 48 hrs after this video. We ended up using NSF no-hub rubber couplings with steel pipe clamps. If you know a better way of doing it, make a video of your work and link to it in a comment here.

Tried the first time on 1.5 drain pvc...has a small leak and I have to cut it out lol

The procedure I'm using in the video might be easier with 1.5 then with the 3 I was working with. But learn from my mistakes if you try it.
The bolt-on NSF no hub couplings have not leaked now in the 3 weeks they have been installed.

Why put 2 fitting width of primer on the first end ? If anything it’s just making it harder to slide the coupling.
You need 2 people to do this and a medium body glue that allows a few more seconds work time. Have the helper ready with a full glue dobber, slide the fitting overshooting the stop point by 1/3 fitting depth, helper immediately adds glue to the trailing edge and you slide the fitting back a little
