    I will say dealer markups are price gouging and should be illegal. I tried to test drive a 22 civic SI yesterday and not only was the dealer not allowing test drives, they added a 6k markup on top of MSRP. So a 32k car is now 38 and out the door is over 40k. That's ridiculous

    • @tomtang0514
      @tomtang0514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Oh I've experienced worse. Tried to test drive the Supra last year, and the dealer was like: "Let's run your credit and discuss price first. Once you decide to buy the car, you may feel free to test drive it." How the fxxk is that a test drive if I already bought the car?!

    I love my BRZ! I bought in February and have hardly driven until recently because of the summer-rated tires. I have the "limited" version, which in Canada is called "sport tech" (no idea why there is a different name for it). It puts a smile on my face every time i drive it. This car is not about absolute speed, but travelling on twisty roads, or the rare traffic circle we have here. So much fun!

    Convenient timing for this to pop up in my recommended; I JUST got home from the Subaru dealership and placing my order for a manual BRZ Limited. First car I've ever bought, been driving my dad's old Tundras for the past decade. Was originally gonna go for the GR86, but the Toyota dealerships here refused to let me place an order for one saying I just have to get lucky that one would come in and that it was extremely unlikely for a manual version to come in sooooo to Subaru I went.

    • @biffbastion301
      @biffbastion301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you order a 2022 or a 2023? I even contacted Subaru directly TWICE as the dealers are clueless and they said the 2023 hasn't been "approved" for sale yet. Seems odd. One Subaru rep said the BRZ is having issues passing emissions and not sure when the 2023 will be released if at all. Yeah lady, they spent money to design a car only for a 2022. LOL We are waiting to order a 2023 as soon as we can. :) Grats on your purchase!

    After several autocross events I'm ecstatic with my BRZ. I added the front camber bolts and 245/40R17 Falken RT660s and the grip limits on-course is amazing. I also did an event on the Primacy tires and it was a nice exercise in car control, perhaps even more fun than on the Falkens. I didn't care about the 18 inch wheels on the Limited since I run 17s for autocross.

    • @urbly2638

      what size rim do you need for 245 and does it rub at max lock (u-turn)

    • @aroundomaha
      @aroundomaha 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@urbly2638 I run 7mm of offset to prevent rubbing. I noted a slight rub due to autocross but compared to street driving it is pretty demanding, so that shouldn’t be an issue there. Due to SCCA rules I run stock 7.5 inch wide wheels but I don’t recommend that for normal driving. Stick to the Tire Rack recommendations and you can’t go wrong in my opinion. They recommend 8.5 in width at this size.

      @abdullaharif6455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xSikks But maybe you should have kept it plugged, since the last gen model did not have any fake engine sound. There was a sound pipe that physically amplified the engine sound from the engine bay. The sound coming from the pipe was 100% real. The new gen model (2022 onwards) are the ones that actually have fake engine sound emitted from speakers. In fact the sound emitted does not sound like an engine at all. It seems like some sine waves were combined to create a new noise to simulate engine noise. The end result sounds terrible.

    Thanks for the extended insight! I'd be happy to see you make more videos on it.
    I have one question if you don't mind: Are the mode settings sticky? Does it stay in sports mode after you turn off the car? Same with traction control and lane keeping assist. It is one of the main things that annoy me about modern cars. Having to configure things every time the car is started. It's what makes me think to get a base model as it hopefully comes with less. Though it might be different in Australia. The Type R came with lane keeping and other annoyances in AU when it didn't yet in other countries.
    PS: I did watch your Type R videos many many times. And when I got to a point of being able to buy one they stopped making them. I'm hopying to have more success with the new GR86 once it makes it to AU.

Since im in Australia mine will obviously come with a spare (full size actually).. I wonder if I can pull it out and put in the repair kit instead to utilise more boot/truck space?

    Thanks for the night drive and test of the adaptable headlights. Do you know if they adapt for hills? I have the '17 and I think they went to a single illumination source with an "eye lid" type shroud that drops down over the top half of the light source to make the low beams. They have a brutally sharp horizontal cut off across the entire beam spread and are bizarre on hills. (Some engineers somewhere should be slapped for this design.)

    • @TheTopher
      @TheTopher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great question, I don’t have many hills to test on but I don’t think they do.

      @2qwik4u 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2qwik4u Thanks! Just to be clear, you have the '22 Limited? (So they kept the "eyelid" for vertical, but added horizontal movement? Wow! Can't believe more people have not complained about the eyelid situation. Going down a rolling down hill, the top section of the hill just vanishes, creating a weird illusion.)

    Also you mentioned 28-29 mpgs. Whats your typical commute? Ive heard huge ranges of mpgs for this car… some saying as low as 21 mpgs. I feel like ~25-26 combined might be an accurate assumption?

    When I test drove the GR86 Premium the Michelin’s literally hurt my ears on the freeway. My ears still hurt 5+ hours later after the only 10-15 minutes on the highway.

      Those pilot sport 4s are really bad. Continental extremecontact sports will be a lot quieter, pretty much anything else in that category will offer better noise levels. Downsizing to 17s will help too

    Agree on the steering. Apparently the rack is very slightly slower (13.5 v 13.0) but it feels like they’ve upped the assistance a bit too. It’s like they’ve been influenced by the ND Miata. It’s accurate enough and probably makes the car feel a bit more “chuckable”, but it’s lost quite a bit of feel (maybe any feel) in my opinion. Probably the only thing that I think the new model has gone slightly backwards on.
    Agree with the knee pad!
    The voice command initiation is from the steering wheel button. I accidentally knock it all the time too.

    • @retrograde11

      Different classes of cars so not directly comparable. Also they provide different experience. M2 offers more of everything except perhaps pure connection between driver and the car. Which might be the reason itself to go BRZ/gr86. Keep in mind, M2 will be significantly more expensive over the long run. If your finances allow for it, go m2, but since you're asking this particular question, I think you would be better of with BRZ/gr86. You want to own the car. You don't want the car to own you.

    I swear the Japanese just don't do good fake engine noise. I mean I'm not for them, but at leat the Germans make their soundaktors sound good. The new Civic Si and this BRZ soundaktors make it sound so much worse than just real engine noise. Its like they took a 4-cylinder sound, made it sound fartier, and threw the sound file into a speaker and called it quits.
