Really good job on the video! Very thorough and well explained. Probably could skip how to open the hood part, because if you haven't figured out how to do that on your own, then you probably shouldn't be doing this job!
Took on this project for the first time after watching your tutorial. Your step by step visual instruction on a laptop has put the Chilton's Manual out of business. Thank you for your time and instruction. Saved me a lot of money.

Another excelent video ! Lexus RX300 has an nealy identical situations which has driven me nuts ! I would like to share some tips with the DIYers here. 1 The enging hanger is actually a C-shaped chanel, which make the 14mm bolt even more dificult to be removed because the bolt top is flashed with the flange. So I decide to grind off the flange at driver side near the bolt so the bolt will be easily reached with a 14mm ratchting wrench. 2 I modified the grounding point of two grounding wires from behind of the intake chamber to the side. Adding a piece of new wire is an very easy job. 3 The third useful tip is for the cam cover gasket. A common proble for the 1mzfe engine is gasket leaking even with the new gasket. Over titen the 10mm shouder bolts around the cover is some times useless. The effective way is add one or two washers on each bolt.
Pretty good video except you forgot 2 things. To tell people to clean the engine surface and that if they had oil leaking into the plugs like you did, to use a paper towel to soak it up and compressed air if they have it to absorb it.
Replacement of 4-Cyl Highlander engine valve cover gasket is much easier than a 6-Cyl 3.3L engine, which I am in the process of doing. Removing the 12mm bolt on the middle bracket of plenum manifold is extremely difficult.
i noticed that you removed two gaskets, but i did not see that you installed 2 gaskets, 1 from the cover and another from the engine,or did i miss it? or I only need one? thank you.
I had a mechanic replace Gasket but occasionally still smell fumes. Why? I paid 600.00 for this job plus I am feeling sick from the fumes. Toyota cost too much and every time I take my car to Toyota they find something wrong that cost over 1,000.00. Sometimes, I feel like they are pulling a wool over my head. I don't like to be taken advantage.
HI, I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER SOMEONE JUST TOLD ME THERE IS OIL ON THE ENGINE ( I SAW IT) AND IT PROB MEANS I NEED HEAD GASKETS BUT IT RUNS GREAT, IS THIS AN ISSUE OR NOT FOR THE VEHICLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP ANGELA
@@1AAuto how do you know / measure the torque ? Also i see estimates online that this can be a $1500 to $4000 dollar job. I don't understand why. It doesn't seem that complicated. How much would you say is an average price ? Why is it so much? Thanks.
The Engine Oil leaking light and the Engine light ( Code P0012) on before and after the Valve cover gasket replacement ( $400)???😕😩😭 Any advice ? Thanks in advance!

My mom's car completely died out on her. When I opened the hood I noticed oil+debris all over the engine block (i.e like shown in your vid). I took off the valve cover and noticed the broken valve gasket (just one area). But my question is, would this be the cause for engine failure? The engine wont crank over. Any ideas?

I personally have an 08 hybrid... My engine looks different than this... Gonna have to figure it out... N mine may have both heads leaking... So your vid only shows the front valve cover... What about the back?

Got an 03 Highlander, this is going to be my next task. Valve cover leaking from front bad, good thing I have this video for reference.

What is the torque spec on those bolts and shoulder bolts?
Great video. Really helped. Was able to do the job (including spark plugs) in about an hour
What other maintenance would you recommend while the valve cover is off?
Replace the blinker fluid every 30,000 miles. It tends to get dirty. AND the filter for it.
Pretty good video except you forgot 2 things.
To tell people to clean the engine surface and that if they had oil leaking into the plugs like you did, to use a paper towel to soak it up and compressed air if they have it to absorb it.
+KornShaDoW097 Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.

Amazing Video! Would this also be a good time to change out the spark plugs?
Good explaining step by step. I can't see the bolts in the back without a step stool.
Those Toyota clips always break!

Great informative post. Much appreciated

Thanks alot. As easy as I thought, just wanted to confirm.
You should never flip the valve cover right over the open engine because contamination could fall inside and make it worse. Just my opinion.

What are the torque specs for the cover? Does it need to be properly torqued?
+Nicholas Johnson Yes, it would need to be properly torqued. You will need to tighten the engine cover fasteners to 7 Nm (62 lb in). Thank you.

What about the oil that was in the coil pack holes..what did you do with that?
Do you drain the oil first?
Do you use any sealant?
What's the torque values for each screw?
tighten the engine cover fasteners to 7 Nm (62 lb in)
Is it the same for the V6?
Can we use ATP 205 or any other oil stop leak as first step before change gasket?
is it the same as the lexus RX330?

in this video hows come you took off the gasket off of the head and then you took off the gasket off of the cover? are their two gaskets?
He put it back on the cover as a demonstration
In January 2022 they wanna charge $500 for the replacement? ? For a V6 engine. DIY about $30 . Thanks!
I have the V6 Highlander what tool do you use for those nuts or screws on the valve cover gasket ?
5mil Allen socket
Great video...I LIKE!!!
nice video guys!
Do you recommend using any kind of gasket sealant?
+Yen Yang You can use any gasket sealant brand would not make a difference.

Them Toyoders always have this problem. Always. 🤠
What kind of Highlander engine is this for?

9:30 4 cylinder . Notice the coil holes

Wow! 20 minutes to do this, and repair shops want 500. to 600. to do the job.
You didn’t add silicone gasket
Use a flat head screw driver to pry off the valve cover 👍🏽 not a rubber mallet
Good thing Toyota has a aluminum valve cover stinking mitsubishi endeavor has plastic how nice cheap
Came here for the torque spec... was... not? ..maybe..disappointed?
Show how to do it on a 1mz now on the rear bank, have fun pretty boy.
