I was just curious about the process of changing cloth, so I searched it on TH-cam and found this video. 6 seconds in, I see a very familiar scene - that's the pool hall I play in every week in leagues! Thank you for the amazing job you do on the tables there at Main Street! You're awesome!
Amazing that you recorded this whole process from start to finish, as this is invaluable to someone like me who likes to do things myself for the most part. I wish I had a piece of used cloth to practice the bed install but with your measuring index, I should be able to get great results. Your my hero for 2020. Thanks brother 👍

I cover tables at diamond billiard products so i try and learn as much as i can from other places ive found a way to do this without taking a measurement the cloth i use is omnidirectional so it stays consistent as well
This deserves some sort of TH-cam award for tutorial videos. Thank you. I do have a question that I haven't seen asked although I may have missed it. The 33" and 33.5' markings. Are those before the stretch and help with the amount of pull from side pocket to corner pocket? I know some of this is feel but just wonder what those measurements are indicating. Also, if the answer is yes then would each measurement be 5' longer for a 4x8 table approximately. I am sure it depends on the specific table but in general would it be 38' and 38.5' for a 4x8? Thinking about the additional 1/4' stretch for an 8' table maybe it would be 37.75" and 38.25"? Thanks again.
Tim, I haven't covered any 8 foot tables for a long time, so this is a bit fuzzy, the 33 and 33.5 are my attempt at putting a number to a feeling. These numbers are specific to a diamond table. The slate cut for the pockets of different on most tables, so the slack left in the side pockets and amount of stretch to the corners will all be different.
Hey Zack.. Where do you get your Somonis Cloth from? I did my two tables with the great help of this video. Thanks to you for putting this video out. It also gave me the confidence to them and they came out great. The problem that I had though was the cloth I had, the rails were not pre-cut. I cut them to 6 inches as described in the video. Did my rails on the first table and my bed cloth was short width wise. I got the job done, although I had to improvise a bit. The table still came out great. The second table I cut the rail cloth to 5 1/2" Witch did give me a more proper amount of cloth to do the bed as you direct in the video. Though kinda pushing the cloth length for the rails. I would not want to cut it any shorter at all. Thank you very much for the help from this video. I will definitely continue to do my tables in the future. I would like to know who you get your cloth from though. Thanks again.
Looks like Main Street Billiards in Mesa AZ...lol. I was wondering about the material for the risers you used for rails and the little spacers (black rubber) on top of the risers. Did you make them and if so, how? If not, where can someone purchase them or the materials to make them? Also, is it possible for you to make a list of tools that you used and/or recommend (i.e. shears, creeper, compressor, staple gun)?
It sure is Main Street in Mesa. The risers are just 1/4" balitc birtch plywood with 3/16 neoprene glued together. The exact composition is not important. As far as the tools go, I have just collected over the years and really have no list. The really only important thing for this type of recovery is the 3/16 nap roller for the glue. Everything else be is whatever you are comfortable with.
@@reverendjonas Hey Zach, Other than the 33" and 33 1/2" measurements are there any other differences in measurement markings for a 9 foot diamond at the timestamps listed below? 1:00:59 1:01:45 1:03:04 1:02:49 to 1:03:09 1:03:20 1:03:39 to 1:03:52 Do you have a diagram for the 9'? @@reverendjonas went to get a 3/16 nap roller. nothing available locally. ordered some on amazon. is 1/4" nap an option? I would assume safe for the slate, but i don't want to have glue go on too thick and bleed through the felt by accident.
Zach, What an amazing job. Very concise and very professional. I have watched this video 20 times and now I have the guts to try and tackle re-clothing my pool table. I started it and have made some mistakes. What I did so far is 3 of the rails and not happy with my results. I am using Simonis 860 and so far what I have done is not so good. The rail cushions do not seem "lively" enough. (The cushions themselves are good). I am sure that I did not stretch the cloth tight enough before I stapled it. I also screwed up 2 of the pockets. I will use your technique for the remaining rails. If the results are better, I will go back and remove the staples for the first 3 rails and try again. Do you know where I can buy more simonis cloth for just the rail? (just in case I totally messed up) Thank you so much for sharing.
Try calling around to any local table mechanics. They might have some extra cuts of cloth they can sell you. Thanks for posting. Good luck with your table.
Hey Zack great video. I have 2 diamond tables just as you recovered with pro-cut pockets. I had Diamond recover them and I don't like the way they did them. It is now time for them to be recovered again. You do a great job and take good pride in what you do. Its a wonderful video. I may try to do my 2 tables myself with the help of this great video. What type of stapler do you use (air/electric)? What are you using for the long blocks you use to prop up the rails?
I use a 22 gauge upholstery stapler. I believe it's a 3/8 crown. Many people use a T50 stapler or a 1/2 crown 20 gauge. All in 1/4 leg. I like the smaller 22 gauge because it does less damage to the rails and is easier to pull staples next time. Good luck with the tables let me know if you have any questions. What part of the country are you in?
Good afternoon Zach this video by far is the best and your techniques are Fail-Safe!! Just one question do you keep the same 1 and 3/8 stretchline for an 8ft table with 860 simonis?
@@reverendjonas What would be the stretch on a 9ft? add another 1/8 to 1/2 inch? Additionally would you share the measurements for the lines to the corner pockets for both an 8ft and 9ft? Thanks.
Excellent. The strong hands and fluid efficiency indicative of a man with lots of experience. The only two things I’m curious about are the purpose of the additional black blocks on the ‘risers’, and why you didn’t check for level.
The little spacers are just to get the rail up off the blue blocks so the rail cloth doesn't get pinched while pulling and stapling. I always level the tables after all the recovering is done so it doesn't get forgotten. This was the 14th out of 16 tables at this location, so all 16 got leveled afterwards.
It's just to take up a little extra cloth at the corners so there is not so much you have stretch out on the under side to get rid of all the wrinkles.
