Congrats on your 1k. The algorithm does work. It’s my 4th year flower farming. This last year, I started thinking heavily into adding woodies. I feel like I struggled to find woodies good for cutting. This fall I ordered some from Bailey. My biggest issue is finding them local because shipping can be very expensive coming to California. I’m excited to watch this woody series and watching your channel grow. Thanks TH-cam for an algorithm that works. I hope you get monetized soon so you can get the revenue from the 90+ second ads that are playing during your videos.
Thanks for celebrating 1K subs with me! It's been a really interesting journey! Glad to hear that the algorithm does work sometimes! Hmm yeah...finding them local for me has been really helpful. I planted over 900 shrubs last season from Spring Meadow, but I was able to pick them all up as they are only 30 minutes from me...but if not the shipping would have cost me another $1,000. So it does make a difference for sure. I'm not exactly sure how all the monitzation thing works, but I am close...so we shall see. Thanks for all the kind and encouraging words...it really keeps me going.
I looove woodies! After planting mostly annual flowers for cuts for a few years, I quickly realized how valuable they are. Excited for your next video!
💚 Thank you! I feel like I have been having my own little party here celebrating that! But now you joined in! So kind...I'm excited so see where this will go.
Included in the “when you harvest them” section would you include the time of year/month and if you can harvest them at multiple stages? Flowering, foliage, fruiting etc. I realize that we all live in different places so our harvest time will vary, but I still find it so helpful to hear your experience with timing. Thanks I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series
Great video! Can you share how you handle post harvest, how you condition the woodies? I know sometimes you have to cut vertically up the stem to allow for water absorption with lilacs. Thank you!
Great video! I really want to get going on woodies with my new property. I’m most concerned about deer and Japanese beetles. Thinking through my strategy before I invest.
Oh yes, deer can be a problem for sure....I don't have deer pressure so I don't do anything about that. It's good to think things through before you invest into them.
Another great video, thanks for all the info on these. This is exactly what we’re planning to do as well, hopefully get a bunch in the ground later this year sometime to go with our 300 peonies.
Wow, details on your woodie journey is so valuable. I have an order coming in the spring of Magical Springfire Ninebark, Magical Berry Winterberry, Magical Green Falls & Pink Falls Snowberry from Farmer Bailey/Dutch Bareroot (10 each) and I’m thinking hard on spacing. Recommended spacing is 2-3’ apart, height 3-4’ for coral berry, 4’ apart, height 4’ for winterberry and 3’ apart, height 5-6’ for Ninebark. I’d love to hear your thoughts on spacing. Also I look forward to hearing about all the varieties you have planted, spacing and which ones you have liked best and harvesting. I’ll have a section for woodies, but will use some of the plants for landscaping for my new house as well. Love your channel. - Pam NH Z5
Thank you so much! Good woody choices coming! Good for you! So have planted all of those and will address spacing on each of those varieties I believe in my next video.
You deserve so many more views! Keep up the great work! Who did you buy the tunnel from? I’d really love to hear more about the educational offerings through the ASCFG. As a new grower I’ve wondered if the 275 to join was worth it when there are so many other things to buy to get started. Love your channel!
This is such a sweet thing to say...it really made my day! Hmmm...yes, a video about all the offerings of the ASCFG is a good idea. I'm adding it to my list of ideas!
Yes, Dave Dowling...he is a cut flower expert. He works for Ball seed as the cut flower expert. If you look him up on podcasts about flower farming you will see him interviewed in several different places. He also has a course about woodies from the Gardner's Workshop Farm.
Thank you - I can't wait for your next video. Would you also maybe be willing to share something like which 3 woodies you might prioritize based on what has been so far most popular with your local florists? (Like the snowberries):)
Thank you! Yes, that is a good idea for a question. I will address that later in the series...probably in the last video I will answer a bunch of questions specifically.
I love your videos. Can you tell us approximately how much a 16 count tray costs from Spring Meadow? I’m starting a flower farm on 9 acres so I’m interested.
I'm not exactly sure everything that they use...you would have to contact them directly...look on their website and contact the rep for your area. They are great to work with.
Congrats on your 1k. The algorithm does work.

Yes, great point about harvesting in multiple stages! I will seek to address this. Thanks for watching.

Yes, I will address this later in the series! Thank you so much for the question.
Great info. Looking forward to the series. I'm curious how long you left each plant before starting to harvest.
Great Question. I do go into that in my next video.

Yup! That sounds like a great plan. Thanks for watching!
Great info! Thanks😊
Thanks! I glad you found it helpful.
I´m looking forward to your next video! I´d like to know which your favorites are.
Thank you. That is definitely on my list to address! More to come....

also the tunnel is from Nifty Hoops
Super video! Can you tell me who the Dave ?? you referenced that you watched videos from. Thank you!

Thankyou am in UK and have only a tiny space . Which would you plant if you had to choose .
I will add that to my series! Thanks for watching!
I love your videos. Can you tell us approximately how much a 16 count tray costs from Spring Meadow? I’m starting a flower farm on 9 acres so I’m interested.
It was about $100-$110/tray (NOT including shipping). They somewhat vary in price plant depending...but that is about average in my experience.
Do you know if spring meadow nursery uses systemic pesticides on their plants? I'd prefer to only order from places that don't use them
I'm not exactly sure everything that they use...you would have to contact them directly...look on their website and contact the rep for your area. They are great to work with.
Thank you so much! I'm excited for you and hope to add woodies to my farm soon 😁 I wish I would have "yesterday " lol
You're welcome...oh yes...the "yesterday" list!
Which ones are your top 5 woodies?
Great Question. I will be addressing this later in the series! Thank you for the feedback!
