I don't know how you pack everything you do into a day! I worked with your husband, and learned of your farm through him. Your a former U S A F Air Man. I connected indirectly with you, My son is an Air Man. Thank you so much for your service Ruth Ann 🇺🇲 God is good, and abundant blessings flow because of him. It has been awesome to watch you grow, and I can't wait to see where God takes you and your family. Thank you for sharing.

New subscriber from Johannesburg South Africa 🇿🇦 . Just starting out in the farming arena from 9-5 desk job as 46 yr old single mom of 2. I've been researching & learning from TH-cam videos by numerous farmers from all over the world on various types of farming for about 2 years now. In the middle of this year I bought vacant land in an urban setting to develop into a flower and berry farm and shortly after that an oppertunity came along to take over a small established urban food farm from a friend. Nervous & excited about what this new road holds for me. Feeling blessed and hope to quit my full time day job soon to pursue this lifestyle for all it is and embrace fully everything it offers. I find your content unique, great quality and refreshing. It is genuinely useful info. I appreciate how honestly and generously you talk about failures and successes and that you really come across as wanting to help others do what you do. Good stuff! Well done. Thank you for creating your channel & sharing your knowledge and experience. Wishing you all the very best and I look forward to your future videos. 🌻🌼🌻
Oh thank you! Sounds like an exciting opportunity for you! I hope it all goes well for you and your kids. Thank you for the encouraging feedback. I want to give back to this great community and offer what I have learned over the past years.
Thank you again for some great points!! Love that you stress quality and relationships. You definitely must have your hands full, that must be very challenging but you are giving your children a great role model for hard work and dedication.
Thank you! Yes I do have my hands full with all the kids...it's a busy time of life, I could not do it without my husband who is such a great partner both in the farm and with the kids. I firmly believe quality and relationships are SO important!
I'm so inspired by you! I just found your channel I'm a military spouse and we live in 4 acres in Louisiana at the moment I am just starting to dabble in flower farming as a side gig I homeschool two kiddos!
Oh that is so fun! I can't remember if I mention in this video that I was in the Air Force. I know being a military spouse has a lot of challenges. I would just encourage you to dabble away and no matter where you end up your knowledge will go with you!
@abundantbloomsflowerfarm absolutely! He has 6 more years then retirement however what I find the hardest is planting things directly in the ground knowing I may have to leave them behind one day
@@goatlovefun Oh yes...I would have a really hard time with that...I don't think you can add that to your household goods 🤣...We planted over 900 shrubs this last season...not to mention all my perennial....we are never moving 😍
Ruth Ann Thank you so much for making videos on top of everything else you do. You are using the talents He has given you to help many. I sure hope you are able to add the Profitability video and the quality of stems video to your to-do list. God bless. I just found your channel and looking for all your videos I can find. God Bless
Dear Ruth Ann, congratulations on your flower farm, your way, love your clarity and so appreciate your sharing of knowledge. I'm not too far away in Eastern Ontario and am an older starter with my farm. Your content is on the button for me THANKS❤
Hi new to your channel . Am 4th year UK flower farmer . We only sell to florists and I agree with all you say . During winter I drop by and take home made cake . They love it .
Yes! They love seeing me in the off season. I have always wanted to drop off something homemade especially during the winter...I have never gotten that far 🤣...so a card has been my solution...but honestly that is my ultimate goal! Way to go....and thanks for watching from the UK...so fun to know where you are tuning in from.
Homeschooling mama with four kids here. I am looking at doing my first year of real flower farming this coming season! I am sooooo excited to be able to expand I am planning to do market bouquets again this year. I am hoping to grow enough to sell at the local farmers market but we will see! Thank you for the intro and the very useful information!
Oh! So lovely to meet a fellow flower farming, homeschooling mama. That is so exciting. I'm sure you will do great! Way to go to expand into farmers markets.
Hi Ruth Ann, How did you go about working with the florists you currently work with? When you started out flower farming was it intentional that you worked solely with florists?
These are great questions. I am working on a video that will come out soon that will answer your second question. This is a link to a blog post that I wrote. I think it will partially answer your question for now…but I am working on creating a resource specifically to answer how to make your first florist connection. www.abundantbloomsflowerfarm.com/blog/why-i-sell-flowers-to-florists
Hi there! Thank that is so sweet. I love hearing where you are from. I lived in TX for a few years when I was in the military. So fun to have you here!
Hey there! The TH-cam gods just showed me your content and I’m so glad! Excited to hear more from you. I am going into my third year flower farming in Pennsylvania and I also sell to florists. I don’t feel like there is a ton of content out there about selling to florists so glad I found you!
Oh I am so glad that you found me. Yes! I agree...I do not feel like there is a lot of content out there on selling to florists and that is the goal of my channel!
Very well expressed. You are being businesslike and very practical which are key to your success. It would be useful to know how you keep track of income and expenses and how much you make on your farm.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I do enjoy discussing the business aspect of farming. I am pretty low key...I track everything now through Quicken as far as income and expenses. I might actually change that, but I find Quick Books so expensive as a small farm, and I don't need payroll or any of those part of it. I am actually exploring changing to accounting directly through my Novo business account that I use for my business bank account.
@@abundantbloomsflowerfarm good to know. I’m trying to understand much of this s I get ideas of how I am going to proceed with my plans. I know they are online companies who will do your accounting etc for you, I want to know more about that too.
I had my first season last year, and think I did ok. I sold lots of Sunflowers, they are so easy! But I also made some investments, 1200 Lillies planted in the spring, and sold quite well. I hope they come back this year again, I think they will. I also bought 450 perennials last fall, but they probably take one or two more years until they give a good yield. However, I think they´ll pay themselves back next summer since I sell retail in a high-end area. I have wanted to farm peonies for many years, but have not had the space ready before, but now I think I do. In that case, I´ll plant a few hundred next fall. Here in Sweden there are basically no flower farmers, so it´s quite easy to sell them.
Sweden...that is so fun to have you here as well. Wow...no flower farmers...that is also an interesting thing. Yes, I would say your investments seem on track. And I also love sunflowers. They are easy and even wholesale sell for a good amount. Way to go...I hope your second year blooms well also!
Oh thank you! That is so encouraging. I do not pinch snapdragons (sometimes they get pinched by accident though). This is because I sell to florists and I want one really tall stem large. If you sell retail I know a lot of people do pinch snapdragons.
Hello from Portland Oregon. I’m a 70+ yr old gramma, growing flowers in my backyard. I want to set up a self-serve stand in my driveway and sell to the local neighborhood . Your information is on target for me; although I want to keep my business small I’m hoping to contribute to my granddaughter’s college fund. I would love to learn more about quality in flowers. What do you look for, best cutting time and post harvest care. Glad I found you and thanks for sharing your expertise!
Great Question. So this such a great topic and my most asked question I think. I plan to make a video all about this. So stay tuned......but a short answer is I don't call them...I either go in person or if it's a designer I usually email them.

Awesome tips thank you!
