I know it isn't the greatest but I love the Hal/Carol relationship. I think it'd be nice to see them get back together (maybe have Hal grow as a person until he's mature/responsible enough for Carol to accept), but I also agree that Hal needs to move on and I think the story has the potential to do that (maybe by just having him accept her as a friend and letting her move on with her boyfriend and he ends up in his own relationship). Either way, I'd be fine with it.

The reason I got into comics was because of Green Lantern by Geoff Johns. So far, Jeremy Adams has done a great job with the series. I know we are now on Issue #7 and it's had some great surprises, but the first issue really hooked me in. The War Journal comics have been excellent as well. Can't reccomend them enough!

I doubt they will do this, but I would really like if this series tackled the idea of two people that love and care about each other very much, but have to accept that they are not good for each other as a couple. That’s something that people have to face so much in real life, because loving someone doesn’t always mean you are compatible with them. If they did a really good job of tackling that, and have a strong and healthy conversation about it, I think that would be such a good thing for some younger readers to see. I don’t think that ever gets talked about enough in media but it really should be explored more. Especially because so much of the Disney library us about following your heart and being persistent and eventually things will work. Ideas like that aren’t exclusively bad, but I think it has lead a lot to people not using their head in conjunction with their heart. Plus, we still have a culture of male entitlement towards women they “like” and that’s not changing anytime soon if it doesn’t get discussed in a way that really understands the male perspective but still effectively challenges it. I’ve been Hal and have had my own Carols, and I wish that something had helped me change my perspectives sooner. It would’ve prevented a lot of grief and helped me to not be such an ass of a man when I was a little bit younger.

As someone who really hated the last run. I loved this first issue. It felt like a breath of fresh air to have a Green Lantern story set on Earth. Jeremy Adams really gets Hal's voice in this and Xermanico's art looks fantastic. Normally, I skip the backup stories but this I read and I thought it was really good. Very interested to see what PKJ is cooking.
Also, I highly recommend Jeremy Adams' Flash run. It's really good.

I have to agree with you on the Hal/Carol relationship. The only way it could work honestly is if Hal understood and respected Carol's boundaries and emotionally be available for her and present in the relationship instead of seeing her as a person that should he should be solely because they have a past. It highlights one of my issues being a Hal fan, I love the character, but you can be confident/fearless and also be emotionally intelligent and also respectful of boundaries and in a modern sense, I found his persistence creepy tbh. I love his ability in his life despite what is thrown at him to keep going and be a hero, but some real self reflection on his character and Hal learning about what it means to be a mature partner would do wonders for his character. Id really love in this run if Hal actually goes to therapy, about his existential crisis on being stuck on Earth and feeling lost, but if they were going to do that, it probably would have been good to establish that at the beginning. I say this as someone who has a confident/cocky partner, that is also emotionally available and respectful of boundaries and even she eyerolled at the carol/hal scenes in this issue. I love Sinestro here, as Id love a team up with Hal though, the superheroics were great. This issue was pretty good in terms of the superheroics, but the Hal/Carol stuff just seems like a painful repeat that by now you think Hal would learn from.

Hal’s personality is usually an AHole in it being cocky, loose and somewhat of an ego. That’s just how he has been overall, but he has redeeming qualities in his will power that makes him one of the greatest GL’s among his peers. To me the writers and fans view Hal and Carol as like Superman and Lois, Joker and Harley, Batman and Catwoman or Talia among the popular choices. People are used to their dynamic no matter who messed up it can get. I do like the happy ending Geoff Johns gave them for his ending run and I do believe they could make it work but writers and people in turn like drama overall and it gives something to write about and expand upon for many issues or volumes. So where it goes next for them isn’t anything to write home about. I’m looking forward to this new series but hope the writing goes in a little different direction than past series but most comics and stories in them retell the same beats without much change so we’ll see. I also don’t like how there’s always plot holes between series and other writers but that’s how it goes too I guess

Hal is my Favourite character and I enjoyed isuse but scenes with carol were all what people hate about him and that made me worried, and I know Hal is similiar but secret origin made it better

15:52 I choose to believe that the new recruit named Shepard is a Mass Effect reference which means i need to see more of him immediately. Wheres my GL/Mass Effect crossover book DC???

Wow, thanks for bringing up consent and no means no with that scene. When I first read this I had an issue with how they make Hal seem like the “persistent wind a woman’s heart”/“The Notebook” type of invasive problematic behavior, specially with him smirking and her actually offering him a job because he stopped her car and etc with the top gun jacket look smh I get it’s suppose to be admirable how doesn’t accept limitations and especially when it comes to saving people but it looks really gross when that applied to consent…

Just read Gerard Jones GL run. It wierd seeing how different Hal and Carol's relationship is in the present compared to the beginning.

Does anyone know what Carol’s Star Sapphire situation is? Does she still have a ring?

I thought it was a little weird we didn't get to see the United Planets/Guardians conflict on panel (maybe we'll get back to it with the Sinestro plot) I do agree it's weird for Hal to go "well I'll take orders from these genocidal immortal universe-policing god-complex'd gnomes, but a democratically elected government? Nah bro."
I'd like to see you do a video on your thoughts on the individual GL costumes at some point. Hal going back to the black shoulders of the classic Silver Age costume is meant to signify the back to basics theme, but we've had the newer remix for so long it's kind of weird to look at for me.
With the Hal/Carol plot, I'd have liked them to lean into the idea both of these people are pushing 40 at least, and (I think still in canon) they've known each other through both their fathers since they were kids. Though I do like skeezy, burnt out, unemployed Hal who Carol is done with.

I assumed that the Manhunter armor became active because Hal returned to Earth. It recognized him being in the area.

Man, I love Hal Jordan to death, but I never liked him having a ring made of his own willpower. I was so happy to see it gone, and now it’s back already! 😂
    Fucking amazing issue regardless, though.

The Hal/Carol relationship is extremely toxic. Hal is a classic narcissist. He doesn’t love Carol, he loves Carol loving him.

    • @AtomizedSound
      @AtomizedSound ปีที่แล้ว +2

I mean it goes back and forth depending which series you read. I think he genuinely cares but Hal’s an ahole too. That’s his personality really and I think it goes deeper than just saying it’s “toxic”
