After seeing this, I immediately followed Dr. Aviv's recommendations. Within just 48 hours I felt so much better!!! Have been WFPB since 2012, but in 2015 started having GI problems. Was diagnosed with Acid Reflux. I was quite confused, because I thought that eating WFPB would have prevented this. Now I know from Dr. Aviv that even some of the healthiest foods on a WFPB diet needs to be tweaked. I had gone to 6 gastrointestinal doctors. Five of them never mentioned diet and the 6th one wanted me to go back to SAD!
I am hoping, Chef AJ, that you can come up with and share recipes that are low acid, SOS WFPB. Only about 10% of the recipes in his books are. The community would be so very grateful!!!!

I found this so interesting but I have to say I was disappointed when I got his cookbook and found recipes were not WFPB compliant. Maybe I missed something here that said he wasn't plant based. Hopefully as you said Chef AJ can come up with low acid recipes!

@@marypfender9984if you read his book he does include lean poultry, fish & eggs - although he does say only if you have no issues with them.
Chef AJ has invited him because even some vegans have Acid Reflux or LPR, and his diet does contain enough vegetables & some fruit that plant-based eaters can create meals with.

I have been misdiagnosed for allergies for years (8 y.). I was just diagnosed with Gerd last year. I am being pumped with anti acid medication. I hate it. After listening to Dr. AVIV, I realize it was a pepsin
beginner and now has turned into Gerd. Thank you for explaining - in detail- what acid reflux is and how it differs from pepsin. All my systems were upper until the put me on anti-acid medications.

Look up foods that cause acid reflux and look into food combining and don't lie down.
Stop the toxic medication if you wish to be healthy and not get Alzheimer's.

I am on the acid watcher diet AND I AM SYMPTOM FREE! I have never felt this great in years. Is it hard to do ? yes it is, its not an easy road to change your eating habits but doable and when you reach that point of feeling better, no more chest pains, heartburn, nausea, bloating, skin breakouts to name a few, the journey is soo worth it! And I lost alot of unhealthy weight as well! The book provides some menu samples and you can adjust it to your preferences easily becuase Dr Aviv provides you with permitted foods list, so use your imagination and have fun and feel great 😊

I have been vegan since 2011 and have never been able to fix my reflux issues. I've actually found it especially difficult to enjoy eating WFPB because so many of the recipes call for tomato-based products or lots of onion or garlic or vinegar to make things taste better. A WFPB Acid-Free cookbook would sincerely be a god-send. I have Dr. Aviv's book but there aren't really very many vegan recipes. If you made one, I would pay like $500 for it at this point haha. My wife suffers from oral facial granulomatosis, a disease with mouth lesions that is attributed to an autoimmune situation. She is also taking a low dose of a PPI for reflux. The problem with the PPI is that it might increase autoimmune problems. There is no study that I can find that definitely associated GERD with OFG ... But I think there could well be a relation and that an Acid Watchers Diet could help her (and also my severe GERD).

Upper endoscopy revealed the start of Barrett's esophagus as well (thankfully followup endoscopy no longer showed signs of that). I've been on Prilosec ever since that first endoscopy. Don't know how to spell Dr. Aviv's "huffing/coughing" but I do that ALL DAY LONG. Always thought it was more allergy based but now I realize it is probably the opposite. • @osmanvincent1975
    @osmanvincent1975 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I would like to suggest a quick & easy alternative approach that might work for you. Just drink a couple glasses of water and jump up and down for a couple minutes to jiggle the stomach back down to its normal position. No harm or cost in giving this approach a try. You should know quickly, in a couple days, if this approach helps.
Forty years ago, I did an activity which forced part of my stomach up through or past the diaphragm. It was a couple months later that I suddenly started having severe stomach pains. I was initially misdiagnosed by a doctor as having ulcers. It was a couple of years of misery before I realized that the doctor was wrong and I had gastric reflux disease, or GERD. GERD often happens naturally without a clear cause, especially with older people. Normally, the esophagus sphincter and the diaphragm sphincter muscles line up and reinforce each other. If part of the stomach is pushed or pulled up through the diaphragm, the two sphincter muscles don’t line up and stomach acid can more easily leak into the esophagus, causing GERD.
Other people suggest drinking warm or hot water to relax the muscles, I would suggest cold water so that the heavy water will stay in the stomach longer. I would also suggest doing it first thing in the morning so the volume of water won’t dilute the digestion process of other food. It may take a repeat on a few successive days for the esophagus to adapt to the new longer length for the stomachs to stay in its new proper position. I would repeat the process anytime I got heartburn or acid taste in my mouth. I have been trouble free for over 35 years now, and can eat anything I want and take no meds for anything. I later learned of a gastroenterologist in Michigan who recommends this process also; maybe others now also.
The body needs strong hydrochloric acid in the stomach to trigger the esophageal sphincter to close, to break down bulk foods generally, and to separate protein into the amino acid components to be effectively absorbed from the small intestines for use to make new proteins our body needs. Most or all GERD medicines block the production of or neutralize the hydrochloric acid which then interferes with protein digestion and interferes with esophageal sphincter closing. Both of those actions are counterproductive.

I actually got gastritis from spicy pumpkin seeds on an empty stomach for the entire summer. Also, I put powdered ginger in warm water every night before bed. About the same time. Been suffering for four months now. I have been plant based for seven years. Try to get plant protein that doesn’t cause gas. 😕 I also did lots of vinegar.

This is so interesting to me. All he talks about with the throat and even the shortness of breath is what I deal with. I've have my esophagus stretched due to trouble swallowing and choking. WFPB has helped me a lot, however I do still have some of the symptoms he describes. I plan on getting his book. AJ, is there any way he could recommend a Dr. in my area since I am in Pa. I've yet to find a specialist who addresses my concerns in this way. Thank you for any help you have to offer.

#double check greek yogurt im not sure if and when we are allowed to have greek yogurt but to replace donuts use regular wholemeal toast and buy a donut shape cutter. Spread the yogurt on the toast which should be in the shape of a donut and add fruit on top and remember those delicious krispy kremes that look amazing are fake, they are not real dispising how good looking they taste or look. As the saying goes if its too good to be true it probably is. My partner last night taught me the expression " as you sow, so shall you reap". A few minutes of food pleasures leads to a month of unpleasant stomache displeasures.

A brilliant idea for the future would be holiday seasons summer autumn winter spring but things like acid reflux birthdays, easter, halloween, xmas and etc. But maybey also turned into books it would mske a great acid watcher collection. Also apple donuts are becoming popular instead of bread apple slices with fruit toppings are being used on top instead. Cant wait to try them next week. I am feeling so well now i do want a donut binge but i refuse Becuase i am feeling way to good. My control for food is brilliant now. Got groceries delivered and someone gave me the wrong groceries a massive block of my favourite chocolate was sent to me by mistake i immediately put it back in the bag and have given the groceries to my neighbours. The acid watcher diet is not the book i wanted it was the book i needed. Thanks guys.

    Johnathan aviv
Hi mr aviv. Thankyou so much for your acid reflux videos they really are inspiring and thankyou for your help sir. My name is nicole 32 all the way from south australia in the city of adelaide. I have been a acid reflux sufferer for a number of years now. My local gp told me i have acid reflux and that i should just avoid caffeine and have lots of small meals. I mean what is that? 😂 There was absolutely no mention of making my meal times last for 20 to 30 minutes, no eating 2 to 3 hours before bed, he failed to mention no red meats, no citrus, no sauces, sugars, salts, no tomato juice onion garlic, he didnt mention the safest dairy products of which i have become fascinated with soy milk and almond milk its currently my latest healthy obsession. There was no mention of not touching canned foods and having skinless fish and chicken. My ph levels throat or esophagus werent checked or even scripted to check but i did have a ultra sound where acid was not detected. I started watching your videos as my acid reflux was severe i ended up having to lock myself in my own home for nearly 3 months dealing with this acid reflux on my own due to being unwell. I just couldnt figure it out. After watching one of your inspiring videos i decided to get off my weekly one treat a week whether it was a bag of crisps or one minitaure chocolate for 12 whole weeks. 3 weeks in and i started to notice a magnificent difference while still eating 30 minute meals every 3 hours even if it was something small like making an apple last for 30 minutes for breakfast. I finally went outside again and for the 1st time in 3 months i finally got my hair done and went for a walk. I really love your battery acid method where you tell people having a bottle of soft drink or a chocolate bar is like me saying oh i only drink battery acid one a month. Its a real page turner for me and realisation because i have alot of battery operated appliances in my home. I did have a miniature junk food binge over the werkend. I bought a bag of chocolate and ended up only eating half and threw the rest out. I didnt feel good eating the chocolate it wasnt as i remebered not as needed or good as i thought. I have also cancelled the latest krispy kreme order as i love to keep up with the latest trends which actually got me thinking as to why im writing to you today. Something that has reaaly got through to me is telling myself that processed food does not belong in our body our bodies weren't created to have processed foods such as chips chocolate cake soft drink. If we look back at the classic ham and pineapple pizza have a look at desperate housewives making cookies baking cherry pies and cakes. Pizza has changed over the years we can now get dessert pizza a pizza smothered with hot fudge and marshmalllows, nacho pizza a pizza that is loaded with chips sour cream and more. Even milkshakes these days have lollies and chocolate pieces inside of them and these are the things that people are attracted to. If we look at a traditional banana this is what we get a banana. But if you were to place a banana next to the latest krispy kreme which is currently chocolate hersheys in Australia a donut smothered in hersheys topping sprinkled with miniature choloates. C'mon what do you think people will buy? Donuts these days have glistening toppings some in australia just a little while ago had some with rainbow sugar straps on them known as rainbow donuts. #these were delicious by the way. I know you have my full permission to tell me off. From when i was a child i can only recall a few fruit and vegetable commercials one was a banana commercial with people having fun with bananas one girl was dancing in a banana skirt, the other was a mandarin advert where someone made a smiley face with the mandarin or orange, i remember some fruit tree commercials, and a farmer made out of a vegetable face and one sports athlete telling us to grab 5 a day. These days fruit commercials are repulsive they have all this fruit advertised so they can go into lollies and other packaged foods so people think how healthy they are. The juice i had yesterday was at a 2 star health rating which means not healthy. One commercial i watched only yesterday had a vomiting piece of fruit. If we have a look at milk these days flavoured milk even flavoured milk these days is becoming loaded with chocolates and lollies. Cereal is now being placed in ice creams. Alot of people think that a cherry chocolate cake is good for us. People think that its ok because they are eating a few cherries. Wrong its not okay. It should be the other way around. There should be more fruit than the cake or better yet no cake at all. I also really love your 730 kitchen closed rule. I have gotten myself i to a really beautiful routine. My dinner is no later than 7pm so at 730 i am finished or finishing dinner the kitchen is clean and i live waking up to a clean kitchen every morning. I stay up reading for 2 to 3 hours which is brilliant for my job as a writer so dim lights rarely any tv i sleep all tjroughout te night know and i think the hot soy and almond milks that have replaced the hot chocolates are helping with that to. I mentioned before that i have alot of batteries in my home. Normally its lights out when the restaraunt closes but now its my favourite lights go on in the kitchen when its kitchen closed. I look forward to kitchen closed every night now and now i know that i can be betyer withing 3 weeks and will now continue to be getting stronger as the days go by i have even confirmed a business trip overseas. Sometimes the sugary cravings kick hard like hot dogs burgers and even chocolate and even seafood with all the trimmings like vinegar and lemon sauce. Have you got any tips for those sugary and not so sugary cravings. Normally after 3 days if im still craving the same thing i go for it but ive incresed this to 3 weeks maybe a month now. Have you got any tips, advice and is there anything you wish to add. Thankyou so much for your work, the videos are great keep up the brilliant worrk and thankyou for helping us

I love him but he said something that was not accurate. He said "Barrett's esophagus when you have stomach lining creeping up into the esophagus"
That is not accurate that's a hiatal hernia.
Sometimes you will get a hiatal hernia which could be an issue and you could have Barrett's esophagus... Which is a change in the esophageal lining due to acid reflux.

Plan on going on an overseas adventure soon. Has anyone got any ideas on how to cope with different time zones? When i wake up in the morning where i am travelling people are asleep. Should i become noctornal? Its really scary especially when i may not be able to have oatmeal or a aviv berry smoothie to wake people up at 3 am. May not even be able to bring the blender should i instead for breakfast just have fruit and milk for breakfast or should i take the long way out and just go overseas for 24 to 48 hours??? But the expenses are way above going on a cruise. Should i just forget about the wole thing????
