I’ve watched so many clam digging videos to try to learn how to dig with a shovel. Yours was the best one. A touching tribute. Thanks for sharing the love!

65 years ago in Washington state was no limit. I learned wet digging from commercial license clammers to dig sand bars as you did here. With shovel and burlap bag would fill it. Had to be sharp and exit with incoming tide. Leave with canners who'd clean and box and ship to us in Seattle. 1/3 whole for fried, 1/3 minced for chowder, and 1/3 smoked. Would end up with 15-20 cases. Oh so good. I am 75 now and disabled but still can smell the brine. Oh, back then, big ones were 7 to 8 inches.Be good to yourselves.

That’s awesome Byron. I remember going out with old Colman lanterns with my grandfather when I was really young. We would fill old galvanized tubs with razors. Now some days it’s hard to get 15 clams.

@@elkhunter Yeah those were some good days and memories. Too many peop;le moved in the Pac.NW. My 5 & 7 yr old grandkids moved here from Aaska and are puzzled. What can I say? Sigh Used to use treble barbed hooks and no limit or license to saltwater fish.60 pound kings were not unusual. Now even Buoy 10 winter run doesn't produce those. Take Care

I live in Washington and my tribe gets to commercial dig for 4 hours as much as you can get. Our surf sacks are like 4-5’ long and 16” across and we have some good techniques that are faster and easier but it is basically the same idea. I just go a little closer to the clam and start the shovel blade pointing out towards the ocean so that the shovel curves down under the clam twist a Lil and pull straight up and quickly slide your hand in and it will be right there. But these here are great tips , well done

This is the first TH-cam video I have seen with the technique I use which is way faster than any technique I have seen. If you are good at it you can expose the clam before you grab them.

Is the geoduck an adult version of a razor clam or is that a different species altogether?

Jupe367, it’s a different species. Thanks for watching.
