Omg, you’re so nice!! You show people where to go to dig properly with the equipment that they brought…then you share a gaper clam with an observer. And you have time to get yours too, some beauties!! Bravo! 👍🏼

We dug for gapers at Netarts before but it wasn't in the rocks. This seems like it would both be harder work (so many rocks!) but faster since they're closer to the surface and they cluster together And the clams you find there seem so much larger too.

Awesome vid! I built a shovel per your specs and I'm heading out for my first time tomorrow! I'm just curious, why would you target rocky areas vs sandy one's? Seems like using a shovel/clam gun the sand would be a bit easier, so I figured there must be a reason you're choosing to dig through rock? Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thank you! I heard about the sandy area near by but I haven't tried yet. Maybe the clams in the rocks are a little bigger. Anyway, good luck digging! Let me know how it goes.

I didn't make it out until yesterday, but I got a full haul of butters and little necks! I ended up on the sand instead of rocks, but imo that little trowel is still better than a spade shovel. It's less efficient, but I think it's less likely to break clams while digging.

Those are huge gapers. I'll bet most people don't like digging them in that rock and it lets them grow up.

When is gaper clam season? You need to take us with you so we can learn how to dig, clean and cook them from you.

I think the limit is 12, but please check regulations as I am going off my memory.

How do you spotted gaper clams with them rocks surrounded? Thanks.

A lot of time they spit out water as you walk by, or by stomping on the ground. You can also see them stick their neck up on the surface if the area has not been disturbed. If you look carefully, you can also see holes about the size of your fingers.

Nice video. Best thing about your video is you filling in your holes. Not everyone will do so, which doesn’t help with their reproduction. Good job.
