    I like how the candidate acts the role of an actual teacher. I've seen a lot of other mock CFI checkride videos where the examiner is just grilling the candidate on his/her knowledge. The CFI practical is not a knowledge oral. This is a "see if you can teach me" oral . See if you have the ability to "transfer knowledge". There really needs to be more mock checkrides like this where the emphasis is on teaching and not just telling. This is a test to see if you can be a teacher. You have already passed the tests that demonstrated you know the subject matter. Nice job boys!

    Out of all of the CFI mock oral videos this one is my favorite. He has a really great way of relating the material and making it interesting. Great job!

    I really like the notes you are showing on screen that you're using as an outline to hit all of the main topics of each task. Are those available anywhere?

      @@joesillamanrs7189 the outlines were created when we were working towards our CFI ratings. we recommend reviewing the new ACS and updated material and creating your own outlines for your check ride. Where would you weigh the CFI's skill and ability to stand up in front of your student and draw out subject matter on a grease board? What are your thoughts on this style of teaching vs sitting at a desk and discussing the subject matter like in this video. I' am not judging nor suggesting one is better than the other. Just curious what people's thoughts are on this? (Assuming you are teaching to just one or two students at a time).

    • @BATAviation
      @BATAviation  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’ll see in one of the task (the teaching process) that you do need to use different methods of teaching. Using visual tools can help the student better understand like model, airplanes, whiteboards with markers, etc.. either way the teaching process does not change. Presentation, preparation, application, assessment! We recommend showing the person examining you all the different types of teaching that you can provide.

    Forward Cog, doesn’t that run the risk of losing rearward trim and elevator control? Wingtip vortices are proportional to Cog not lift.

  • @user-yq7no9re8f
    @user-yq7no9re8f ปีที่แล้ว +4

    far as i know, forward CG gives you more controllability. you've mentioned it opposite way(32:10)

    • @justinparadis7036
      @justinparadis7036 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You might be mistaking it with stability. A forward CG gives you more stability. Controllability refers to the response from the controls when you apply pressure. So an aft CG reduces the amount of work the elevator needs to do to rotate the airplane around the lateral axis and thus improves controllability. Does it make sense ?

    The CFI candidate has a lot of wisdom and experiences. How do you gain all these experiences when you have under 500 hours? I know this wisdom is important. Yet, very inexperienced Pilots are expected to be a CFI. I was in the military. When I became an instructor in the military I had over 1,000 hours and vast, vast, amount of experiences.

    What did you use to make your presentation on the iPad?

    • @BATAviation
      @BATAviation  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use your iPad if you like as long as you’re not too reliant on it. It’s good to know the information and just have your outlines to help. Keep you on track. I personally printed a large copy of the PTS and wrote notes in between each task and printed outlines of how to stay on each task. Those are the same ones that you see in this video.

    • @BATAviation
      @BATAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes… You can definitely have an outline of the different tasks with abbreviated notes. As long as you can look up and make eye contact with a DPE and fully explain what you were talking about. Just let him know that you’re going to use your notes to help you stay on track. No harm no foul.

    great video but unrealistic. i watched this a few days before my CFI checkride and i almost sh*t myself. because i knew that i didnt possess nearly as much knowledge or confidence as this guy in what i was teaching. i passed the ride the first time around, but my experience was nothing like this. maybe next time do it with an actual fresh CFI instead of an ATP rated CFII/MEI with probably 5,000 hours given

    • @BATAviation
      @BATAviation  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Elliott was a real CFI candidate during this video. He had his check right a couple days later. If you follow the PTS outlines and come up with your own notes to follow through with during your check ride, then you can be as fluent as him and stay on track. We recommend standing up at a podium and practicing what you’re going to say while following your notes and making eye contact. With enough practice, you can be just as great as Elliott.
