Kollias and Longstreth are my personal 1 and 2, ive talked to John Longstreth a couple times, really cool dude, i stood behind the stage once at an Origin show just to watch him play, THE most impressive technique and speed I've ever witnessed, he was a machine, and after an hour set of playing such extreme music, he was cool to just hang out and talk. i personally would have Sandoval in the top 5.
This is funny, I just commented the other day on another fb post that John doesn't get enough credit....and here he is at #1 Nice!!! No way is Sandoval an honorable mention lol. To each his own i suppose
The issue I have with these lists is that there are way too many amazing bands out there to truly choose a top 10, and even then you will always be missing that one guy from some band with 4 monthly listeners but is one of the bests drummers alive. Theres drummers like Matt Kilner, Leo Luyckx, and Alexander Kubiashvili that have insane talent but aren't very known because the bands they play with are relatively small.
As far as technique with blasts, I'd say fingers and wrists. If you get major muscle groups involved, you lose speed. If you use just fingers and rely on the rebound, then you lose power. Best example of this would be Shannon Lucas, formerly of The Black Dahlia Murder. He's also worth a look
Longstreth is just fast. I think Kollias has him beat on all around fast because he can do it with multiple techniques. Sebastian Lanser should have at least been an honorable mention.
Sean Reinert in the honorable mentions?! That's pathetic .. He should be in top 3 .. without him .. most of the mentioned drummers won't be what they are now.
Same problem most lists have. Just focused on commercial and mainstream bands. Drummers in prog metal these days are obscenely better than any of these guys.
Please tell me how you think Origin is a mainstream band? I've seen some of these bands live 3 or 4 times with some shows only having like 25 ppl. I've seen Nile with Origin and there was like 20 people there. Show was still awesome and ripped my face off. But in no way are some of these bands mainstream. Slipknot is mainstream, and Joey isn't even on the list lol. Corpse and Suffocation are the most popular bands listed on here and have been around for 30 years... Do you consider longevity " commercialized " or " mainstream" ?.
GENE FING HOGLAN
Jamie st Merat is the drummer that inspires me most currently and I'm glad he at least got an honorable mention

I thought either David Diepold or Alex Rudinger were going to be number one, but neither of them were mentioned. Those guys are nuts.

Yeah who ever made this list…. I just don’t know 😅
Jamie Saint Merat is continuously overlooked. He shouldn't be an honorable mention.
He should be number one ☝️
Number 1 to me. No one drums like him!
Richard Christy should've been mentioned, and Trey needed to be at least in top 5 imo if not top 3
I'm surprised Blake Richardson didn't get a mention. I'm not into BTBAM but his drumming is ridiculous.
Lord Marco and John are beyond incredible.
Lord Marco is beyond insane with his gravity blasts.
Marco Minemann? Romain Goulom?

Should have been Tomas Haake
try Jannick BERCIER the drummer of Gone In April / Quo Vadis or 66Samus, you will be amazed Man
@@noufblade2107 I love Samus. The dudes come and hung out on my live streams a few time 🤘🤘

Exactly! That’s insane to me. He was so creative and interestingly dynamic
Frost Satyricon is the best
Martin Axenrot is not even metioned? Dude...
Not classified as death metal, but Evgeny Novikov from Slaughter to Prevail is a heavy hitter
Same problem most lists have. Just focused on commercial and mainstream bands. Drummers in prog metal these days are obscenely better than any of these guys.
Well, the list is about death metal drummers but yeah, i agree
the list is specifically about death metal drummers. not prog drummers. plus they are two very different styles of playing. L take
What prog drummers can play death metal like Lord Marco or Spencer Prewett?

i thought #1 was gonna be Gene, surprised Ken Bedene wasn't even in the honorable mentions xd
