Steven could not be judged by Harrow because there were so many identities inside of him some of which we have not met. Each one needs to be integrated or they must accept each other to be judged. Since he is on a SHIP being taken to be judged he must come to terms with each of his personalities before that can happen. The other two persona's were locked up so Mark could be treated first "main personality" before moving on to incorporate the others which failed and Taweret had to step in.
It’s interesting that Taweret appears. One of her duties in Egyptian mythology is rejuvenation of the dead. Interestingly she is also the mother of Ammit
something i notice, the swaying of the lights in the asylum seem the sort of motion you'd get if you were aboard a boat/ship .....many afterlifes (egyptian included) used waterways and funeral barges for reasons so could be suggesting that the asylum is their traversal of the duat? Unfortunately no it was Marc’s body getting sent to the hospital and in the ambulance in real life he’s being transported but he’s in his own multi dimension

I'm still going with it all being real and he's on his journey to the afterlife. The big thing now is finding Khonshu's ushabti so he can be freed. Can Khonshu be freed without interacting with his ushabti in the physical world? Since his ushabti is presumably kept with the other imprisoned gods, if they access Khonshu's ushabti, what if they free all of the other gods at the same time?
He won’t die lol. There’s literally scenes and photos of Marc as moon knight we haven’t seen yet in the episodes (promos). Like a new footage I mean. So that means all of this is probably in his mind and a journey to revival not the afterlife. Layla is also 100% will try to save him and as we see in the scenes that we didn’t saw yet from the next episodes (from the promos), there’s a scene that Arthur and Marc as moon knight fighting, and Khonsu is standing right next to him before that so he gets freed too.. I really enjoyed seen Harrow dressed up like Carl Jung & paraphrasing his quote about the tree rooted in hell. The resemblance is kinda uncanny when the focus is blurred. Also, Marc saw his glass-filled shoes in the mirror; much like how he sees his alter, Steven. Harrow had on different shoes when he stood up in the scene.
was it just me or did it look like Harrow on the cover of the pamphlet that the security guy tried to give it to him in episode two? it was blurry but it really looked a lot like Ethan Hawke, and then he does the same kind of thing - or same motion - with a VHS tape to Mark in this episode. Also he is out of focus like it was on the pamphlet.
My dad was theorising that in all those room there might have been even more personalities. Now It probably is not like that because in the comics we only had Jake too.

I agree. I’m pretty certain that being turned to stone is all part of Konshu’s plan to make things correct with the Ennead… which seems to be an oligarchy of 5 now, ruling over a stony doll collection of imprisoned deities.
Props to Ethan Hawke playing a second character on this show too!! His voice is so different and he's just as convincing as the difference between Isaac's Marc/Steven.
I think the gods want to help Steven for remembering them, and he's going to ask them to resurrect Marc, too. This is a liminal space between life and death. His personalities may be judged/weighed separately, giving them closure by sending Jake to Amit.
That makes a lot of sense honestly. If Ammits powers can’t judge them through the one body then it stands to reason that in the Egyptian pantheon the alters are separate souls that need to be judged separately. Steven remembers and knows of all of the Ennead; Marc, while violent, has some semblance of a moral compass and knows of the pantheon realistically because of his connection with Khonshu, we don’t know enough about Jake, but based on how he’s being portrayed he seems to be much much worse.
Ethan Hawk’s acting as the therapist in this show reminds me how good of an actor he can be. Where you don’t really know if he’s a good or bad guy in the way he talks and presents himself

How come Harrow was allowed back in the temple when they imprisoned Konshu? Only reason I could see is if other gods were on Ammits side and were against Mark at the judgement all along.
This is honestly my fav theory. I personally don’t believe marvel would do the whole “it was all a dream” thing when they spent millions of dollars on this project.
I have a idea how Marc/Steven will survive. He was shot in the chest but I think khonshu removed his heart. Like it was mentioned in earlier episode the Egyptian kept the heart in the body for Ammits judgment, but since Ammit is the big bad, the heart gives Ammit power over M/S. So khonshu might have removed the heart, harrow couldnt judge him and can’t get shot in the heart too
Remember the first episode when the kid in the museum asked about Steven being rejected by the field of reeds, you can’t get to the fields without a heart that’s been weighed/judged first, so if he has no heart…..
2:26-2:31 This reminds me of Dumbledore’s quote from Deathly Hallows, “Of course it’s happening inside your head, Harry. Why should that mean that it’s not real?”
The only problem with the Amit needs Mark theory, is that her current avatar would also have that info, since he used to be Konshu’s avatar as well. 🤔😉
One thing I just now noticed is at 3:16 of this video you see two reflections in that glass also and it looks like the one behind mark has a different expression going on
I agree with the theory at the end, this is a mix... Harrow is using Marc/Steven's fractured brain to manipulate him to get to Khonshu... One aspect I'm curious about is that in Episode 3 Harrow says to "Khonshu" (when he is a statue), that he will succeed where Khonshu had failed. I have a weird feeling that Harrow may try to betray Ammit and kill them. We shall see.
If there is some kind of key to unleashing Ammit locked in Marc’s mind, it would put some extra weight behind Khonsu telling Steven to have Marc free him after he was imprisoned in stone. He knew the secret was already in Marc’s brain because he put it there
Don’t think it was a Skeletor turned Moon Knight figure. You’d have to paint a blue figure white . They made a Marvel Legends Walgreens Moon Knight figure a few years back , and just used a cloth cape (the wrist has detail exactly like Hasbro ) 🙂
And why could they not just paint over a skeletor figure? In the MCU moon knight isn't a known hero like the avengers so the public would have no merch of him so there wouldn't be a Walgreens version of one
Dude I didn’t even remember that episode from Smallville, I could feel all over again the headache I felt when I saw it for the first time, I even recall a very stressing sound beeping throughout the entire mental institute scenes, such a throwback hahaha
Another possibility: Harrow has been overruled. Steven or even Marc is worthy of survival and Ammit will not let him die as a result of her mission. The new environment is where his selves will be judged before their sentence is determined. Either way, inlay even odds that we see F. Murray Abraham dressed as a rabbi. I also love that in the new reality, the mine can’t shut the hell up.
I think you hit it about straight on with your first theory...only thing I want to add is that he is most likely on that boat we saw in trailer (maybe reason lights swayed). Also, Taweret runs a mental institution in Egyptian Mythology and many interpretations of Egyptian Mythology, so it could be her trying to save Mark since she does not like Ammit's judgement either
A little of column A, a little of column B. I think Marc's mind in it's dying throws is trying to make sense of things and one, if not several, of the gods reached out to maybe find some small remnant of Moon knight inside him that might heal him without Konshu.
I am literally afraid he's about to be Ammit's avatar because of his interaction with Alexander's sarcophagus. 😮 Is it possible Jake isn't in the dream sarcophagus, but Ammit instead?
I really, really don't want Marc to die. He's my favorite character in this show so far and I think he's a far more interesting character than Steven (no offense to Steven he's a pretty good character as well)
As Crystal Dew mentioned earlier, this almost reminds me of the Mental Palace from Sherlock. He gets shot, and goes through an entire journey inside his head, where Moriarty of all people, helps him to break the illusion and save himself.
This asylum thing, that could be happening in his head, reminds me a lot of total drama when multiple mikes multiple personality’s work together in his head to defeat the evil personality mal
One thing I also noticed with this is the desk is in between Harrow & Mark. Typically therapy sessions don’t have a blockage between two people so it feels like an open environment, maybe this is a trick of some sort by Harrow
The ending is eerily similar to the end of S1 E5 of Legion. Highly recommend that show if anyone is interested in the more strange and psychedelic show.
We still haven’t seen the 3-level wooden staircase shown in the credits. Will almost certainly be his childhood home, and a symbol of the origins of his DID.
It may not be Steven in the hospital. Notice that Marc calls out “Steven!” to the alter before he speaks. It may be Jake pretending to be Steven! Oscar’s eyes twitch several times trying to figure out who Marc thinks he is!
Wdym? He did speak before being let out. Its faint but steven's english/british accent is pretty noticable. Besides the alter was wearing steven's pajamas
Couple things I want to point out... you keep says that MAYBE Marc's DID is the result of childhood trauma. If the show is being accurate there's no maybe about it as DID can only form in childhood. You also talk about how Marc is the "real" identity and Steven is just the alter. This is completly wrong. Every alter is a real identity and every identity is an alter. There's not actually any seperation of the two. There's a great analgy that explains this where you rip a piece of paper in half, which half is the original? They both are. Now personally for my system we still feel like there is a "core" personality who's actually been dormant since childhood. At least one in the system doesn't even have a name because he doesn't feel like there's a point for alters to have names when we only exist to protect him. But the idea that we're all fragments of one whole and the pieces are no more or less real than any other also makes a lot of sense to me. I also wanted to point out that it's impossible for Marc to die inside his mind. That's not a thing that happens. Of course the body can die but alters don't really die. They can go dormant, split, or even fuse into other alters but they can not die. When an alter goes dormant they don't front anymore and the system can lose what little communication they had with that alter if any. It can feel like they've died but being dormant actually means they still exist some where in the subconcious. If alters fuse it can feel like they've died but really they've come together to form a new alter. And finally... you keep wanting Jake to be the villain of the series. There's already a villain, the Ethan Hawk character. Jake can't be the villain. Can you please put some effort into researching DID instead of just what the comics say about it. Clearly the series is going for a more realistic portrayal of DID than what the comics did which got a lot of things wrong so stop perperpetuating these horrible stereotypes and research the disorder before you make another video on a subject you clearly know nothing about.
It's definitely not in his head. He is in afterlife. Which had clear explicit mention when Steven enters the tomb after falling from entrance he says they provide protection in after life & ofc the taweret goddess who is rejuvenation goddess too.
This is why I collected those comic books all those years ago. Real life scenarios.( Except stark was a drunk) but at least they are tackling real mental health issues. I was "drawn" in by the complexity of the characters. I could be any of those super heroes, no matter how bad my life was. We shared a common pain
ive been there before. took a shroom trip once to an alt world where i was a psychiatric patient and all my friends and family were actually other patients, nurses, and doctors. good times
Well he (Steven alter) makes the comment in Ep 2 about turning himself in and hoping that "And hopefully, NHS will fill me with enough pills so that you get out of my head!" Which is literally what happens...he imagines a state (or whatever it would be in England) run hospital giving him pills and therapy, and the result is Marc and Steven are not in each other's "heads" per se, they can meet. So its absolutely a metaphor but I'm in the purgatory trial to overcome Ammit's power of Harrow, etc. Loving this show and love ScreenCrush!
Fever dream is probably the best explanation. If you can call 2 shots to the chest a fever. I figure most of the show so far has been "real" and the mental hospital part is his mind defraging the events.
Hey Ryan, I never said this before but I have been subscribed to your account for awhile and I think you do an awesome job at these analyses! Like I’m not lying when I say this but you’re ONE OF THE BEST TH-camrs when it comes to breaking down Marvel and other comic book media. Seriously, KEEP IT UP! YOUR ROCK!
In the video game "the darkness 2" there is something very similar happening, it instantly reminded me of this and I bet it turnes out pretty much the same but dont wanna spoil anything
No one ever mentioned that the moon changes phases in each succeeding episode starting from its 1st quarter phase. Has anyone else noticed it? I bet Moon Knight will be so powerful at the final episode because it is leading to a full moon.
what if steven comes out of that final sarcophagus and it’s revealed how often jake lockley has been around throughout the episodes? but mark and steven both don’t realise it or look into it more because they just don’t trust each other enough :D probably not but oooo
You have to love Dream sequences in A- list film or shows, they show another part of the character we never knew or sort of gives comprehension to whats to come.
I meant to say yesterday, I was super impressed with how EARLY your EP.4 video came out (,waaaaay before anyone else I might add) and now this?! @ryanari you are the best! Thank you for providing us with these breakdowns, theories, Easter eggs and every other video you do!
These days people with channels like these that make all these breakdowns are given the episodes ahead of time so they can drop their 100 things you missed the day of it's release. I think for this series they had already been given the first 4 episodes when we were seeing the first one.
I think it would be interesting if the third personality was the partner who Mark said shot Layla’s father and then him. Might be why Mark seemed completely uninterested in freeing him from the sarcophagus.
How would that makes sense If marc stated that his partner got greedy, shot all the people there and marc himself? Jake wouldn't try to hurt himself because he knows as an alter he cannot live without the( main) body. It is the same with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Hyde couldn't harm Jekyll because he knew that would lead to his demise. Thusly no it's not jake
This episode was great, loved the classic adventure film vibes at the start. The ending scenes reminded me of Legion - which I'd only been thinking Moon Knight could learn a thing or two from just before watching it. Definite upward trend in quality with every episode so far.

He knew the secret was already in Marc’s brain because he put it there
I was so thrown off by the light sweet female voice out of the hippo 🦛 😅 can’t wait for Ep.5
Maybe the two shots to Marc's chest is a foreshadowing of the death of two of the personalities inside of him
The Cranberries! As a 41 year old I really appreciate you using them, and Zombie no less!
Dude I didn’t even remember that episode from Smallville, I could feel all over again the headache I felt when I saw it for the first time, I even recall a very stressing sound beeping throughout the entire mental institute scenes, such a throwback hahaha
Bravo for the Mr Robot reference. That is immediately where my mind went when I saw the episode.
I love you for including a Mr. Robot clip. This show feels like it's been quietly influenced by that show.
Thank you so much I was so confused
Another possibility: Harrow has been overruled. Steven or even Marc is worthy of survival and Ammit will not let him die as a result of her mission. The new environment is where his selves will be judged before their sentence is determined. Either way, inlay even odds that we see F. Murray Abraham dressed as a rabbi.
I also love that in the new reality, the mine can’t shut the hell up.
Did no one notice the sarcophagus that Mark didn't open?
And they both remembered being shot once, each
Such a brilliant episode I can’t wait to see what is next. Also, both Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke are amazing in this show.
Tomb Buster being on VHS and Harrow making reference to it taking some time to find a VHS player was interesting to me.
Your videos keep me interested in these shows. You're a very good host
A little of column A, a little of column B. I think Marc's mind in it's dying throws is trying to make sense of things and one, if not several, of the gods reached out to maybe find some small remnant of Moon knight inside him that might heal him without Konshu.
Love the videos man. Moon knight has always been a huge favorite of my childhood so I'm glad he finally got the justice from a amazing actor.
I am literally afraid he's about to be Ammit's avatar because of his interaction with Alexander's sarcophagus. 😮 Is it possible Jake isn't in the dream sarcophagus, but Ammit instead?
Or Konshu?
…Probably Jake
Dude totally, you should be afraid that he might be Ammit's avatar, the show wouldn't be called Moon Knight would it?
@@jhinwick5251 as far as I know... nobody has actually called the character ANYTHING in the show. People outside the show could still use that name. 😘
FREE KONSHU!!
I really, really don't want Marc to die. He's my favorite character in this show so far and I think he's a far more interesting character than Steven (no offense to Steven he's a pretty good character as well)
steven is way more interesting
Hes not gonna die that would ruin the moon knight character
I like Steven, he’s quite a romantic 😊
He's died twice already
Yup marc really is the best character
As Crystal Dew mentioned earlier, this almost reminds me of the Mental Palace from Sherlock. He gets shot, and goes through an entire journey inside his head, where Moriarty of all people, helps him to break the illusion and save himself.
This asylum thing, that could be happening in his head, reminds me a lot of total drama when multiple mikes multiple personality’s work together in his head to defeat the evil personality mal
Itd be cool if Jack remains as the "true" MoonKnight when it comes to his violent character from the comics while Steven is the chill one
And the IMDB credits for the episode include two other Spectors- his parents, also hanging in the hospital scenes?
It may not be Steven in the hospital. Notice that Marc calls out “Steven!” to the alter before he speaks. It may be Jake pretending to be Steven! Oscar’s eyes twitch several times trying to figure out who Marc thinks he is!
Also, coffin vertical/flat has to have some meaning of being laid to rest?
Wdym? He did speak before being let out. Its faint but steven's english/british accent is pretty noticable. Besides the alter was wearing steven's pajamas
@@darknerd8332 jake in show has Brit accent to ask out the girl
Enjoying the Mr. Robot parallels in the breakdown vs. the Fight Club ones TBH
The second theory becomes more prevalent when you think of how bad Konshu wants to keep alligator lady locked away. He definitely has some ties
Really hoping that this is a prelude to the formation of the Midnight Sons!
Doug is my favorite part about this channel. I love it.
It's definitely not in his head. He is in afterlife. Which had clear explicit mention when Steven enters the tomb after falling from entrance he says they provide protection in after life & ofc the taweret goddess who is rejuvenation goddess too.
I love Doug. Keep up the great work with this channel, you make it fun here!
That was an impressive and detailed assumption of possibilities after just a few hours of watching the episode.
This is why I collected those comic books all those years ago. Real life scenarios.( Except stark was a drunk) but at least they are tackling real mental health issues. I was "drawn" in by the complexity of the characters. I could be any of those super heroes, no matter how bad my life was. We shared a common pain
ive been there before. took a shroom trip once to an alt world where i was a psychiatric patient and all my friends and family were actually other patients, nurses, and doctors. good times
I just wanna thank you for this really good explain, you're incredible.
One doesn’t experience self transcendence, the illusion of self only dissipates🎈
Taweret seems so sweet and kind! I hope she doesn't turn and tarnish this image!
Personally think the Pen part was a Wolf of Wall Street reference, which is amplified by him trying to walk away like he’s on Quaaludes!!
YOUR ROCK!
I think Mark will be the personality that makes it out alive.
Steven's scream is pure gold.
The real world is scary. In a sense we're escaping the same thing as Marc by watching his show
In the video game "the darkness 2" there is something very similar happening, it instantly reminded me of this and I bet it turnes out pretty much the same but dont wanna spoil anything
No one ever mentioned that the moon changes phases in each succeeding episode starting from its 1st quarter phase. Has anyone else noticed it?
I bet Moon Knight will be so powerful at the final episode because it is leading to a full moon.
This felt a lot like the king cross station scene in Deathly hallows part 2
Your theories make total sense to me.
what if steven comes out of that final sarcophagus and it’s revealed how often jake lockley has been around throughout the episodes? but mark and steven both don’t realise it or look into it more because they just don’t trust each other enough :D probably not but oooo
The patient with the scarab is holding what looks like a yoda doll. Might hint at the gods being aliens.
I was so surprised Ryan didn’t say “your balls will thank you” that is like manscapes motto
Working with Doug is pure genius !
You have to love Dream sequences in A- list film or shows, they show another part of the character we never knew or sort of gives comprehension to whats to come.
probably best/most awkward sponsor in a video ever? Excellently (man)handled, Ryan!
I meant to say yesterday, I was super impressed with how EARLY your EP.4 video came out (,waaaaay before anyone else I might add) and now this?! @ryanari you are the best! Thank you for providing us with these breakdowns, theories, Easter eggs and every other video you do!
He, and others, got episodes 1-4 early.
These days people with channels like these that make all these breakdowns are given the episodes ahead of time so they can drop their 100 things you missed the day of it's release. I think for this series they had already been given the first 4 episodes when we were seeing the first one.
Actually Heavy Spoilers was first but he did give Ryan a shout out
I think it would be interesting if the third personality was the partner who Mark said shot Layla’s father and then him. Might be why Mark seemed completely uninterested in freeing him from the sarcophagus.
That means he had this 3rd personality before he died the first time and before he met Khonshu
Also it's not uncommon for people who have hurt you to become the impetus for certain alters to manifest
I think Steven is everything Marc loves about himself while Jake will be everything he hates
This episode was great, loved the classic adventure film vibes at the start. The ending scenes reminded me of Legion - which I'd only been thinking Moon Knight could learn a thing or two from just before watching it.
Definite upward trend in quality with every episode so far.
