There’s an interesting dynamic between Ridley Scott, the creator of the franchise and the fans. I think Scott feels all that can be said about the xenomorphs has already been said and he was more interested in the AI and sort of creation/religious/god symbolism but the fans want alien in their alien movies. The alien movies present an interesting challenge because the aliens themselves aren’t really the villain. They don’t have any motivation beyond instinctual. But Godzilla minus One has shown that you can revitalized this sort of movie with the right talent.

I'm more of a casual Alien fan, so take that what you will with my ranking. I haven't seen them all, so my list will be incomplete, but I hope we can still be friends afterwards. #1. Alien 3- When it comes to trilogies, if the 3rd sticks the landing, it easily becomes my favorite because it justifies the other 2 movies existence, ie( Scream 3, Spider man 3, Return of the Jedi). Since it was always Ripley's story, I can forgive the death of Hicks and Newt. Plus it was a pitch perfect ending when it her dialogue is played "This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off" Fade to black, roll credits! #2 Aliens- Now you said, you're either an Alien or Aliens guy, and I'll be the Aliens guy when it comes to those particular two. It's quotable. With the abundance of characters that was in this movie, they all seemed well rounded and necessary to the story. A Sci Fi action classic for sure. #3. Alien Resurrection- Forgive me, I like the Joss Whedon style of writing characters and dialogue. I don't think it craps on the Ripley character because it is a clone and the meaning of her personal sacrifice isn't undone to me. I'm sure at this point I should just start a TH-cam channel to defend what the movie going population considers bad movies. #4. AVP- Celebrating it's 20th birthday just last week, this was a fun ride. Like Freddy vs Jason, I'm not there for the humans so much, just the battle suggested by the movies title. Lance Hendriksen can still elevate the status in any movie he's in. #5. Alien- Like you said, it's a slow burn. I can handle slow burn movies of characters I really enjoy, but if it's up against the once above, it's not making my cut. I know it's a classic but Ridely Scott is, I feel, a overrated director. #6. Prometheus- I'm sure I'm lacking the deep philosophical intellect to decipher it's message, which is why I have you. You are way more brilliant than I ever could be. The rest I haven't gotten around too, maybe one day, but no rush. Like anyone on TH-cam says, this is my list, it's not the right list, just mine. Take care Bryan.
