Glad you really like Crimson Peak! Crimson is my favorite of Del Toro's films and its my personal favorite movie of all time. A beautiful and dark gothic romance. Del Toro is my favorite director and I cannot wait for Frankenstein!

Could not come soon enough bud! If you'd have told me 10 years ago that one day I would be wearing a T-shirt with Robert Pattinson on it I'd have told you you were smokin' crack!

Definitely an interesting director. Pan’s Labyrinth is the only film of his I’ve seen more than once, I love that film. Need to get round to seeing his earlier works like Cronos and Mimic. Haven’t seen the Hellboy films since they came out in cinema either so they could go up or down on a rewatch.
    1 - Pan’s Labyrinth
    2 - Shape of Water
    3 - Crimson Peak
    4 - Blade 2
    5 - Hellboy 2
    6 - Hellboy

Good list, only one's i have not seen are Nightmare Alley, which i really want to see while its in cinemas and Devils Backbone which somehow have never got round to.
I always look forward to a new Del toro film but i also somehow usually find them not entirely satisfying. I recently watched the Hellboys again and still found them hit and miss but overall really enjoyed them. Think the 1st is better than the 2nd actually.
Need to watch Crimson Peak again as well, i have the bluray but dont remember it that well other than really liking it.
I do have a massive soft spot for Blade II. Always loved it since original release, seen it more than any of his others and always find it a total blast. Fantastic loud on a big surround sound system!

Nice to see Crimso Peak get some love. Great film. Didn't deserve the negative reception that it got upon release.
I personally like how uncinematic and grim his violence is. I grew up around violence and it isn't glorious in the way directors like Tarantino would have audiences believe. It's pitiable and unceremonious. Guillermo gets that.

    • @BryanLomax
      @BryanLomax  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Absolutely! Violence should shock you. If it doesn't then either there's something wrong with you or there is something wrong with the way it is being portrayed.

Completely unrelated from the main event. But Brian, out of the movies you have seen from last year (2021), have you seen "The Worst Person in the World"? It was my personal favorite film of last year. It's curiously thought provoking, and knows how to move it's audience. I would go on to describe in more detail, but I want to spoil anything

I have not seen all his movies but I remember when Blade 2 came out, it blew my mind. I liked the first one but this sequel was a big step up.

I've liked everything from him, so a ranking is pretty difficult for me.
    1) Pan's Labyrinth
    2) Nightmare Alley
    3) Hellboy
    4) Hellboy 2
    5) Shape of Water
    6) Pacific Rim
    7) Devil's Backbone
    8) Blade 2
    9) Crimson Peak
    10) Cronos
    11) Mimic - not bad, just the least good IMO
I'm very much looking forward to his Pinocchio later this year.

You're definitely right in the fact that Del Toro has not made a bad movie, that being said he's done so many great ones that everybody is bound to have a different ranking and opinion on his movies. For me, I'd go:
    1. Pacific Rim
    2. Blade II
    3. Pan's Labyrinth
    4. Crimson Peak
    5. The Shape Of Water
    6. Hellboy II
    7. Nightmare Alley
    8. Hellboy
    9. Mimic
    10. The Devil's Backbone
    11. Cronos

Best movie is definitely Pans Labyrinth. Downright mindbending and was amazing to see from someone unknown to me at the time.
