Miss Katie Peterson, if you wrote this song based a real life experience I assure you that your "almost man" is the one who lost the most! And this is such a sweet, emotional song.
Yes. He may never live down his loss. I do feel so sorry for him! Dammit, I just fell in love tonight! I have committed a sin of Idolatry. May the Lord have mercy on my soul, should I outlive this fabulous queen of Uke. I am frankly STUNNED!
Katie, I know this is late since you submitted this a long time ago, but as I listened to this, it reminded me of the fact that God has blessed in you so many ways. God made you beautiful on the outside, but most importantly on the inside, too. The songs that you compose, and come from your heart, are second only to Hymns. From your many family videos, you are fun to be with, but there's also a very deep and strong faith in The Lord, and love that you have, that comes across to everyone. We all appreciate you deeply Katie, and I hope you continue with peace and joy in Christ...
I can't understand why this song hasn't gone to #1 on one of the charts for some artist, even if it is an opportunistic imitator, rather than The Petersen's themselves. It apparently can be adapted to almost any style of music. It is so very honest, as well as beautifully poetic about the pain felt in a failed relationship. All of us have experienced that, except for my two friends who fell in love with each other in middle school and made the relationship work and look easy for the last 5 decades. However, they are an exception to be envied. The rest of us get our hearts broken at least once, and we buy beautiful, sad songs to find comfort. There really should be a gold record hanging on Katie's wall for writing this great song.
I thought it was a James Taylor song when I heard it !! I thought it was something he may have sung with Carly Simon or some one like that! its not only that the Petersons are a higher music class above 99% of music produced today. But its almost like they are travelling back in time and bringing back unwritten classics form another era !
Music played simply on piano is special to me. I fell in love with my wife as she played the piano in her parents home, while my non-musical self sat nearby and read or just gazed at her. We celebrated 30 years of marriage last week and it still warms my heart so to hear her play. #Blessed
What an awesome rendition of the song. It is always a treat to hear the song writer perform a song the way they originally meant it to be before it was "produced" into what is believed to be a more commercial version. This is the way the song should be performed at all times. Once again, Katie you are AMAZING.
WOW! What a beautiful and talented young lady you are and what a lovely song. Why aren't you a huge star? With all the garbage that's foisted on us daily it's such a joy to see that genuine musical talent is still out there. I wish you every happiness and success.

Katie, I love all your songs but especially I like “Falling for You”. March 14 would have been my wife’s 66th birthday. I lost her 2 days after Christmas. When you sing about silver hair and gray hair I tear up every time. Thank you for making a sad day yesterday a little easier. By the way I am a big Don Williams fan, you and your families harmony on “Tulsa Time “ is amazing.
Dear Katie, this version was even more moving for me than the collective version I heard before discovering this video. I say it again: this is a song that ANY legendary songwriter would be proud to have written. Above and beyond that, every single man or woman on the Earth has his or her own almost, and you expressed them all. Young miss, you are a beautiful soul, and you deserve to have that almost turned into a always...
This is a hit song Katie. Congratulations. I'm sure you know its good too and proud. I am a songwriter too and a recording engineer and it really feels amazing when a song comes together like that,, doesn't happen very often but when it does its pure magic. This song has it all and really hits the heart capturing the emotion of a love that almost was,, yet never to be. You seem like a truly wonderful person with abundant talent and I wish you and your family great success in your music careers.
You’re an amazing talent... Keep writing... that is an absolutely beautiful song, sung by a beautiful young lady with a beautiful heart and family ... Your family have put my faith in humanity back up a few notches...
So obvious you are singing about yourself and some hard felt loss. I hope you get over it at some point, you are not yet, that's so easy to see. Where are no lows, they are no highs. Time heals the wounds, but it can take years. Life will be good again to you. I am sure. You are a wonderful person and musician. Your are loved by many.

Refreshing human being music. Composition is an amazing gift and alot of work, when a piece comes from creative inspiration and meets the right tone (so beautiful) the piece will eventially become a musical classic and for many of us your already there, safe journeys to all always and God bless
Katie, let me tell you something. I say this as a man who was a bit of a cad in my early twenties, and broke a number of sincere hearts that deserved more than I could possibly have given at the time. I was hurting and confused myself, acting out of a lot of brokenness from my childhood, and didn't really understand myself very well. Stay strong, ready, and don't change a thing! You, my young sister-in-Christ, are an awesome, humble, 𝘪𝘯-𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴-𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭, absolute delicacy of a woman. God is protecting you. God did the same for my wife, Kathleen --- even from me, for a while --- and we've been married now for almost twenty-nine years. She is still, today, much more than I deserve. Although we both got married as ministry-minded Christians, we were sorely ill prepared,, and, statistically and spiritually, we had a lot of factors working against us. But God was for us! He has sustained us through all manner of trials from within and without, and we are more in love today than ever! Praise be to God! You, young lady, are already leaps and bounds more mature in Christ than we were at your age. As a daughter of the King, your path is one that God has prepared for you, and only you. Do not listen to the discouraging whispers of the adversary comparing you to others, or saying that you are not enough in some way or another. Those are all lies to close your heart off to what God has for you. Don't let the past, of your mistakes, regrets, or those of others, define you. Keep your heart open! Your legacy is not grounded in the past, Katie, but in the righteousness of Christ Jesus! God has not forgotten you 𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴. Your prince is coming, Daughter. You are beloved, and the Father is preparing the groom worthy of your love. Meanwhile, rest in the Sabbath of Christ. He sees no lack in you! I will be praying for you, Katie, as I do my own two daughters. Here's Kathleen, my wife, singing an original: th-cam.com/video/0Y9YXPcp-mw/w-d-xo.html

Katie I just discovered your family videos about a month ago. I've been playing everything I can find on TH-cam, but especially California. This an amazingly haunting song. I'm a 55 year old man and a musician all my life. This song brings me to tears (or near to it) every time I listen. I'm not kidding! I want so badly to visit Brandon and see you all in concert. One day! Monty Parks, Chattanooga, TN.
I've lost count on how many times I've listened to this song. The story line breaks my heart every time. You and your family have been blessed with such gifts. Thank you for sharing them with the world.
Not only beautiful; but so talented. You are an inspiration as well as your family to so many people. The world needs more precious families like yours. God bless you and keep sharing with us.
Miss Katie I have a six year old granddaughter who has started singing lessons with a voice coach and she decided she was going to do a one song recital for her parents and my wife and I,and what song do you think she chose, this one,so I wanted to thank you so much for inspiring my granddaughter, your beautiful voice has touched all our hearts and just to say thank you isn't nearly enough.
So a friend of mine linked me to this video. I was commenting "C / Em / F / F sus 2" on your "California" video and they brought me here. I really love this song. Going to watch the video now, wish me luck! :)
well, I am late to the Peterson Party. I discovered your TH-cam channel along with the Family's Channel. I love the music. I'm playing along, learning the mandolin so thank you and the family so much for the inspiration.

You bring Peace, Hope and Joy to the World. You made an old man like me happy in very hard times. I am singing your wonderful song in the desert. May God bless you. Regards from Patagonia, Argentina. Patagonia sounds almost like California :)
They say a songwriter has to experience love and loss before they can write a song with true feeling. Whatever that experience was for you, it certainly worked. This song is beautiful in every way, as are the soulful vocals. Congratulations on an incredible composition. And may I say, whoever it was that was “almost” your man made a very big mistake. Keep writing and singing, Katie - you have an incredible future awaiting you!
I genuinely thought this was a cover of an obscure classic song that I, somehow, had never heard before. I was pleasantly surprised to learn you wrote this. Superbly arranged and sang -- sure to be a timeless hit.
It's a wonderful song. It reminds me of the past. I'm so sad now. My tears have dried up and I don't think I'll ever smile again. But someday I'll be able to say, "There was a time like that." I'm sure I'll be able to laugh and say, "There was a time like that." Time goes on.
Beautiful and from the heart. Brings back memories of days in the military, looking up at the stars, and thinking “ how can I be so sad looking up at these beautiful stars”. Knowing my chances of getting home again were, at the least, questionable. At the same time knowing I had found the one true woman in my life. Fate brought me home to her, and we have spent the rest of our lives loving each other. I realized then that I was just a small piece of God’s overall plan. Life is good! Thank you Katie for sharing your soul, and your talent.
Hello Katie. Today I traslated the song into Italian. I know there are automatic tranlators but I wanted to do it myself to understand the feeling and get into the theme. It's not the usual song with two verses and the refrain repeated over and over, this is a story that goes on and makes you wonder, who knows how it will end...it intrigues you but at the same time makes you think about the sadness felt. Thank you Katie for your work that you share with us...😉😉😉
I can see God sitting on a big cloud-- looking at you with an ear to ear smile swaying back and forth with the music going' " that's my KATIE!!!" :) BEAUTIFUL-- you're an angel..
Katie another great performance. Your voice is amazing. I had the honer of attending one of your shows past fall in Branson. After the show I meet you and told you that you needed to sing more. Glad to see you are.
Sorry, I'm a late-comer to The Petersons. This is one of the first songs I watched/heard on TH-cam when I first learned about you and your family. I love the song; even though it hurts my heart each time I hear it. I think of all the people have been "thrown over" by a love for someone else. I've not ever heard a song that captured the experience as poignantly and powerfully as this one. It's real, and what more can one ask of the work of another? Thank you for being the means by which God reaches out and heals all of us who've experienced this kind of loss. Blessings to you and to your family.
Oh and one more thing you are a super nice person as well.Love the music from your whole family as well as I just luckily picked you all up on you tube.
I have been thinking about this for several days now. This young woman has a very special talent. Also, it is very evident she has a strong faith in Jesus Christ, as it just radiates from her. God bless you and I am confident your dreams will come true. All my best.
What a beautiful tortured soul. Why hasn't this extremely beautiful lady been blessed with the greatest man alive? Has he not been created yet? God bless you Katie.
Hi Katie, I always enjoyed this song when you sing it with your family. This version is just as beautiful with just you and the piano. It really is a very very nice song of very high quality.

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. You can feel the emotions as she sings. You can see on her face that she is feeling what she is singing. You can even feel the sadness. The hurt. Every time I listen and watch the video, I get tears in my eyes. Thank you Katie Petersen for writing this song. Thank you for singing it. I doubt I will ever get to see the Petersen's in concert, but I will still love your music.

So a friend of mine linked me to this video. I was commenting "C / Em / F / F sus 2" on your "California" video and they brought me here. I really love this song. Going to watch the video now, wish me luck! :)
I must listen to this at least once a week. I feel like its making me a better person.
so simple and yet so effective. i can't help but love this song.
Love this song and Katie as well...what a charming song and joyful woman.
well, I am late to the Peterson Party.
You have taken something difficult and made it a piece of art. That takes strength. Lord bless you .
You will have the best, dont ever settle anything less
Thats a great song you rock !!!!
I genuinely thought this was a cover of an obscure classic song that I, somehow, had never heard before. I was pleasantly surprised to learn you wrote this. Superbly arranged and sang -- sure to be a timeless hit.
She plays piano and fiddle, composes, sings, dances, paints and has a gorgeous smile. Katie you are a Star.
Love this song what a talent sure to be a legend one day god bless stay safe Katie and family
It's a wonderful song. It reminds me of the past. I'm so sad now. My tears have dried up and I don't think I'll ever smile again. But someday I'll be able to say, "There was a time like that." I'm sure I'll be able to laugh and say, "There was a time like that." Time goes on.
Katie has the faith and help by Gob. So ... may God help you too
My favorite of all your songs.
Hi Kevin! So good to hear from you! I hope you’re doing well. And thank you. ♥️
Thank you Katie for your work that you share with us...😉😉😉
I can see God sitting on a big cloud-- looking at you with an ear to ear smile swaying back and forth with the music going' " that's my KATIE!!!" :) BEAUTIFUL-- you're an angel..
beautiful live performance and lyrics...love your song
Thank you!
Katie.. thats was absolutely beautiful. Well done young lady....
Katie another great performance. Your voice is amazing. I had the honer of attending one of your shows past fall in Branson. After the show I meet you and told you that you needed to sing more. Glad to see you are.
Thank you so much for your encouragement 😊both here and in person.
Beautiful Katie!! Thank you so much!! 🙂
Thank you ♥️
You are great The Petersen´s and thank you for your music.
All my best.
i'm in love with the petersens. all of them. this family is americana to the core. nothing like them any where else in the world.
What a beautiful tortured soul. Why hasn't this extremely beautiful lady been blessed with the greatest man alive? Has he not been created yet? God bless you Katie.
Beautiful ,,Thanks for all the recent videos from all of You Peterson’s and Franz
I really love this song. Pierrot from France
This song is so lovely, musically and lyrically. Thank you, Katie!
What an incredible song. It makes me cry almost every time I listen to it.
That is seriously a beautiful song.
This song sounds like a #1 Country hit to me... played and sang beautifully...
Love this song so much. Thanks for doing it on piano.
Thank you, Oregon. 😊
Hi Katie, I always enjoyed this song when you sing it with your family. This version is just as beautiful with just you and the piano. It really is a very very nice song of very high quality.
Absolutely stunned with the amount of talent in the Petersen family. Definitely my go-to when in the mood for some relaxing, good listening music. And might I add, definitely a bonus to have you uploading your own videos as well. PLEASE DON'T STOP.... Your fan from way down south of the globe, South Africa =D
@I am Sam Beslis! Duisend maal beter as enige van ons hoofstroom sangertjies =D
