- Best known as lead guitarist of the famed rock band Metallica, Kirk Hammett is also an obsessive collector of visually arresting horror and sci-fi film art and has dedicated the last three decades to creating one of the world’s most important collections. It’s Alive! features more than 100 pieces of graphic art, many hailing back to the days of Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, that have seeped into the public imagination and reflected society’s deepest fears and anxieties for nearly a century. Not only do these objects explore the power of graphic art in its own right, they have inspired Hammett’s work throughout his own artistic career.
Hammett joins fellow collector and horror aficionado Robin Hood Dial to discuss his collection and how horror and Sci-Fi has influenced his life and career.

It's really cool to see Kirk doing his thing, and getting more mic time as well. There's an enthusiasm in him that is refreshing to see.
I have started stone lithography. It is insanely awesomely hard to do. When I perfect it I am going to start doing show fliers and indi movie covers.
The great Kirk Hammett..he talked about Creepy and Erie mags..I used to have some of those..they were pretty old but in perfect shape..I also used to collect Boris Valeho art books and Posters..good stuff man..love fantasy art...🤘
So cool to have someone like Kirk have a hobby that brings another level to the appreciation of the horror / sci fi genre and thankfully we can share in this love of the art etc, and I'm completely blown away by his knowledge, I have been a fan of his since 1985 through my interest in metal music and he has always been a great inspiration musically, thanks Kirk for this exhibition and hopefully one day I'll get to see it person. 🤘🤘

I use to like watching the really old black & white movies that had the snow through them i remember seeing an old Frankenstein movie with my Dad when i was younger in a really old cinema i used to think it was haunted lol a great memory for me. You got to so enjoy the old creepy movies they dont make them the same anymore should try a do a remake of one Kirk that would be so cool

I just watched part of this video, went and watched my first classic horror film, the black cat, and then came back. I really enjoyed the film! Now I’m watching the rest of this with a little bit more understanding. ❤🧟♂️
I used to like Vincent Price movies when I was little. Then my parents took me to a Stephen King movie…idk what it was, maybe firestarter. I was hooked on Stephen King from then on. But my very favorite is behavioral horror. The Hannibal Lecter series is right at the top. Just fascinating ❤

so, basically, finding a random one in perfection condition is pretty much finding a pot of gold just like what kirk says.
I hope I can spend more time going through the exhibit before it ends. CMA Keep it going for a few weeks extra!
