@@thatfishingnoob it’s my first fishing kayak I had an old sit in mallard kayak that I’ve been using for a couple years. I took me Teton out when I got home and it’s great I put a milk crate in the back to hold all my tackle and it works perfectly. I also added 23 inch 2x4 in the slot in the back of the seat it makes more room for storage under the seat. I have an anchor underneath my seat
@@finger678 nice! You’re already set. That rear seat mod really does help. I’d recommend getting a screw with a larger head for the rod holders if you’re planning on using them while fishing. Do you have an anchor trolley already? Glad you’re enjoying the new yak! It’s definitely a blast.
Got the same kayak and ugly stick elites :) on my maiden voyage, I reached too far to the side and tipped. Lost a rod, but learned a good lesson to tether! Cool to see the same set up!!!
Great minds think alike! Those Ugly Stik Elites are bulletproof! I still use them and they've seen some rough times haha, but are still solid! Funny... I also tipped. I was launching and the bank I was pushing myself off from was pretty high up... I ended up flipping. Didn't lose a rod though, phew!
@@thatfishingnoob I’m contemplating doing the inside hatches. My kayak has to sit at a private lake since I don’t have storage, so I’m always fearful of theft. Principle reason why I went with a solid entry-level fishing kayak, but nothing more. Really excited for summer
Good review man! I was between this yak and the pelican Catch Classic. I got the Pelican just due to availability in my area and the deal I got. They're both great options in my opinion. I used to only kayak fish so I've had a Feelfree Lure and a hobie compass and an outback. Now I have a boat so I downsized my yak for light weight for easy in and out of ponds. New sub here dude. Couple suggestions, put a few rod holders on your crate and install an anchor trolley. Nice fish at the end👍😎
Hey, thank you sir! I appreciate the support and tips! It’s funny because I got this for about 100 bucks off so that’s why I went that route haha. Deals are great! I plan on doing a small walkthrough with mods I’ve done and gear I have - in hindsight I can see how this would have been good to include lol. I definitely need to install more rod holders on my milk crate, and I have an anchor trolley installed - helps a TON. I’ve considered getting a drift sock too but I’ve been putting money away for a giant list of things including a new yak haha.. I tell myself that I’m not going to get a bass boat, but it would be nice to take the whole family fishing…. Maybe later in the future. Thanks for stopping by, God bless, and tight lines!
I’m sitting around 160, so I’m definitely light. You’d be on the edge, so if you’re also wanting to bring some gear, a cooler, etc, then that might pose a problem. If you’re wanting to just kayak and fish with light tackle, you could make it work, but a kayak with a little more weight capacity might be a better call.
For what it’s worth, great. I took it out in moderately choppy conditions on a big lake and it was good (made sure to keep my head centered, not lean over too far, etc). I wouldn’t recommend standing in it though. You could but it’ll be an absolute chore to do so.
I think that’s what they’re regularly priced at - though they go on sale often. And of course they’re a lot cheaper on marketplace or used. Just checked - 479 at most places haha. It’s definitely a good boat. It handled some rough winds for me pretty well too, all things considering.
@thatfishingnoob Dick's is always at least $100 higher . I only bought the cheapest one I could find just in case it turned out that I didn't enjoy kayak fishing. I do like it . $200 kayak from 2018 still in very good shape. Good fishing to ya !
@@richdorak1547 They are always higher. They recently closed one that was close to me - good riddance! haha... I'm glad you like it. It's pretty nice to be out on the water on a kayak. Good fishing to you as well! Tight lines!
I was surprised with the amount of stuff I could take. I’m not that big of a dude, so that helps because I know the weight capacity isn’t the best. I’ve been able to take a milk crate with a ton of tackle, a fish bag/cooler, an anchor, 3 rods, yak attack rod holder, and of course the lighter stuff like pliers, a scale, and some other handheld goodies. Thanks for stopping by! It’s definitely a good yak and helps get out on the water. Tight lines!
