When it comes to kayaks your the most knowledgeable person out there as far as I’m concerned. You’ve helped so many people get into the sport of kayaking, and I’m one of them. Thank you

I am an intermediate/advanced seakayaker in the sport for the last 20 years
Your tutorials on $300 fishing kayaks on one hand and Carbon kevlar $5,000 surf skis on the other are spot on and very professional!
Kudos to you man for taking your job so seriously and passing along your knowledge and experience 🍻🍻

Having a ton of fun doing it. Still very connected to the younger me who splashed around in a cheap 9’ Rec kayak most of my childhood.

My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

I have learned more about kayaks and paddling from your channel than from anywhere else. It's an amazing service to paddlers everywhere because even though your shop doesn't sell these brands you are really using their features and differences with your knowledge and experience to educate us. Thank you!

Dan, great video! I just purchased the Tamerack Pro this weekend as my first kayak! I struggled deciding between the Tamerack and the Yukon. I ended up deciding on the Tamerack due to the weight. Thanks for all your great videos!

For a throw and go I had a choice between the Tamarac/ Teton, or the Pelican Sentinel 100X(Aka Blitz 100X amount other names with slight differences), and I chose the Pelican for multiple reasons. All in all I feel the Pelican was the best choice, and after a few cheap upgrade/modificstions it is alot better, and will get even better when Im done with it:) My daughters mom just bought a Yukon, and I honestly thinks its fantastic for the price, however, it is not a grab and go when you drive a 02 Tahoe with a yak carrier up top, and that is coming from a guy who does Seamless Rain Going for a living, which is a very physically hard job. Our 4 year old daughter sits in the back in a Sea Eagle inflatable Kayak seat, and she is all over the place, and the Yukon doesn't even know she is there, and she has her own little spot which is great:) If you arent wanting a grab and go, the Yukon is definitely a great choice!:)

I am new to kayaking, bought a lifetime guster and a tamarack pro. I love the sit in feel but when I saw this review and knew I wanted to do so light fishing I had to buy the pro. Got it today and took it out for an hour paddle and am Soo happy. All the recommendations that have gone up here made me me love this recreation from paddles to kayaks for beginners on a budget.i just started kayaking this year and have 3 (also got an intwit 3 person inflatable for the kids of friends to relax on)and have begun a family tradition soly based of these videos. Originally I was going to buy 3 100 dollar kayaks with free paddles but put some good starter money in instead and fell that I got my money worth and more with the memories we made in the last few months. Awesome reviews and videos

Bought a Yukon on a massive deal- 50% off because there was a scratch in the hull. No damage, no holes, just a manufacturer scratch. It’s definitely a big boy. Tracks really well, super stable. But definitely needed a cart for it, which I eventually bought. The cart breaks down and fits right in the front hatch. Took it out one day on super choppy water and had no troubles at all.

I'm 225lbs.. I wanted a Tamarack Pro - but they sell out as fast as they hit the floor here! I've been fishing out of a regular Tamarack Angler for 3 years. So my only option was watch most of the season pass me by or go to Dick's and buy a Teton. I can put my cooler and dog on the boat without it feeling terrible for the price. My dog weights 26lbs and you have to learn to balance the weight when he runs around. But for the price I just couldn't beat it. I looked at a Moken v2 10 but saved the difference and also bought my wife a Teton. Thank you Dan for the honest reviews!

I picked up a used (1yr old) Yukon for around $400, first kayak, really wanted a small Bass Boat, but decided to try out Kayak Fishing after watching some video's. Quickly found out that while light enough to throw into a truck, then load up with gear it was a bit too heavy/cumbersome for a single person with no helper. Got a small trailer with gear Storage box that I built with my father's help, and found I like it much better. I like the Yukon, and have had a great time on the water. Found out the first time that the Paddle does make a huge difference, and bought a much nicer (Bending Branches), and properly sized Paddle for this particular Kayak. Still thinking of adding a motor, but after paddling around not sure its necessary for me. Overall happy with my purchase and plan to keep this one for a while. Might someday upgrade, but more likely to go to a small fishing boat, or one of these Hybrid's that are out, and keep the Kayak as is. Best thing I can recommend is to try it out, (rent, or borrow one and see if you like it). Or you can do as I did and jump in with both feet!

The Yukon is only 11 foot 6 inches long. I had one. I got it on sale from a place called Blains Farm and Fleet. I only paid $400 for it new when I got it. I used it for 2 seasons and really liked it. I found it to be pretty well made for the money. It was also very stable and comfortable. With practice you can stand in it. All in all a good boat for the money. It tracked decently but was not very fast. And the through hull paddle holders on it suck. Theyll pop out of the holes. I ended up changing mine out with some paddle holders from amazon.
You can buy the Yukon at a few different stores. Walmart also has a black and tan version that looks pretty cool. Better then the blue one. Dicks Sporting Goods and Field and Stream also carry them. But its called the Teton Pro 116 at those stores.
The only reason I sold mine this year was because I wanted something lighter and faster. Picked up a Pelican Pioneer 100XR from Dicks. Which is a sit in fishing kayak. I love it. Under 50 pounds with the stadium seat so its very easy to car top. And its pretty fast. So much easier to paddle then the Yukon.

Just bought 2 Tamarack Pros and wow, I couldn't believe they price ($369 in Alaska). It is a lot of boat. I mentioned on your other video you posted last year how much I love the stability, dry storage, ease of getting back into it, and those seats are super comfy! So glad I went with these. I still wonder how they managed to produce the hull's in the USA, have adjustable footpads, and all those features for that price!! Keep up your great unbiased reviews!

Bought my Yukon this march at my local walmart for $498. It was the only one they had among stacks and stacks of Tamaracks and Tamarack Pros. Was actually looking at getting a Tamarack Pro they had on display inside but I think the associate didn't want to get it down from the rack so he suggested I go look outside and that's where I found it. I actually stuff the Yukon into the trunk of my chevy cruze sedan and strap it in, odd choice but it works. My main gripes are the rod holders (the angle of them sucks, they stick out too far), the fact that the boat has a tendency to spin into the wind, which can be annoying if drift fishing in rivers and such. Minor gripes are the attachment points for the seat back straps constantly loosening and being difficult to unclip from and the skeg wheel being so tiny that it doesn't work well on anything that isn't grass or a hard surface like packed dirt or pavement. The seat is also not super comfortable if you're in it for more than a couple hours at a time. It is a good boat for my first though and I definitely got some use out of it this season. Looking to upgrade to something in the 1000-1500 range next year though.

I bought a Lifetime Teton last year on sale at Dick’s for $330. First time Kayak owner. Strictly to fish on small bodies of water. At 68, I needed something I could load for transport and carry by myself. That was a bug consideration for me personally. Btw, the seat cords on the Teton are designed to be attached to yak beneath the seat. You’ll see where they attach if you lift seat.

Wow, Keep bringing it Bro. New to the kayaking scene and have not purchased my own yet. I borrow my brother in law (he has 5) but I do want to eventually get my own. So here is my dilemma. On a fixed income (stay home dad and help home school daughter) retired army bad lower back (20yrs. in the Infantry) and weigh 260 now and 6 foot tall. Live in Jacksonville area of Florida. So we have the Saint Johns River and pretty big creeks to small creeks that run to different springs. I am a avid MTBer and Hiker.

To add to the Lifetime Confusion, you've also got the Stealth and the Stealth Pro, which combine a lot of the features between all three boats. The Stealth is an 11' long, 30.5" wide kayak with the wheel in the keel, three molded in foot rests, and the tank well. The Stealth is $50 more than the Tamarack Pro (based on MSRP), but is basically a longer Tamarack. Doesn't have the adjustable foot pegs (in fact, only has three molded in foot rests like the Teton), and doesn't have the stadium seat. You're essentially paying for the length and the wheel in the keel. Probably paddles faster than the Teton/Tamarack/Tamarack Pro.
Then the Stealth Pro is $300 more MSRP than the Yukon, but it comes with the Lifetime Paddle (absolute junk), and two tackle boxes. It doesn't come with the wheel in the keel, but it does have a very different hull and almost looks like a pontoon in the back so I imagine it's supposed to be extremely stable. It is 2" longer than the Yukon, and is 7 lbs heavier. Also has a weight capacity of 375 lbs. Both the Stealth and the Pro are sold at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I am looking to buy my first kayak and am on the fence between 3. the teton pro, stealth pro, and perception outlaw. got any input on these?

    • @Kryogenikz15
      @Kryogenikz15 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@wtthinker I've never paddled any of them, but if money is of concern, definitely the Teton Pro. I bought a Teton (non Pro) last summer and am very happy with the quality for the price you pay. The longer boat will track better and is more stable than mine, though it's a lot heavier. Looking at the other two, I'd say the Stealth Pro is probably easier to paddle than the Perception, but the Perception looks insanely stable. If you're going motor on the back of the Perception, then that's not an issue. You can't go wrong with the Teton Pro and saving yourself the $250.

  • @TheMichiganFisherman

Great, great, great comparison video! 👊🤨
I HATE the angle of the rod holders on the Teton. It makes them unusable because you ALWAYS hit them when you paddle.
I will say the Teton IS a very good kayak if you don’t want to stand, though. It IS extremely fast for a fishing kayak.
I recently borrowed a Pelican Rebel XR100 which is very similar in specs to the Teton and the Teton tracked and paddled SO MUCH faster than that Pelican.

My favorite fishing kayak incident involved a bag of live catch tied alongside

I got my Teton in 2019 at Dick's for $350 and it has held up better than expected. I have done a ton of mods to it, even including custom mounting a trolling motor on the back of it. Extremely good bang for your buck, though I am currently looking to upgrade for a 12 foot kayak (looking at Vibe Shearwater 125, Bonafide SS127, etc.). The Teton will still be my backup/creek/beater kayak. I would 100% recommend the Teton over an original Tamarack (not the Pro), due to the overall layout and small nuances.

Great comparison video. I've had the Yukon for a year now, love it for fishing lakes and big water, but am wanting something smaller for my creek floats. The Yukon is just hard to maneuver through fallen trees, and heavy when dragging over the shallows or thru sand. I've been looking at the Tamarak Pro for a while, but can't find one around me. Considering other $300-$400 9 to ten foot options, like a Pelican from the local Tractor Supply. I'm 5'11", 230 lbs

I m fairly new to kayaking and wanted something I could afford and fish off of. I also didn’t want to break the bank. I had walked through a couple of Walmarts looking at kayaks but they didn’t have much on display and didn’t see the Teton Pro. When I went to Dick’s, I saw the Teton Angler selling at $399. However, last cyber Monday, Dick’s was giving 25% off if you ordered things online. I bought the Teton Angler and saved $100 (about $299) and also got a $100 paddle for $75 dollars. I am a small guy and it is great for me but I think I would hav liked the Pro version better. Being only 5’5” I have a hard time with the molded foot pedals and I probably would have like the storage compartment. But, all in all, am having fun on the water of some local lakes. Thanks for the great review.

Looked at all 3 of these over the winter. I almost bought the Yukon. I was looking for a boat that could hold gear for multi-day fishing/camping trips. I ended up getting the Ascend H-10 from Cabela's. It's more canoe like and has a 400lb capacity. It's also lighter than the Yukon and easier to car top for me. I still might pick up the Yukon though for strictly fishing trips.
    Thanks for the comparison video.

So many kayaks to choose from. I have been trying to find a good stability good for fishing kayak that I can pedal around but still keep a budget and I would prefer the pedal that has the paddles that will fold out of the way when they hit something. Hey Dan. Thanks for another great video! My wife & I are planning to get into kayaking soon and on a tight budget. I'm currently in the research phase and really enjoy your comparison videos. At the moment, I'm leaning toward the Tamarack Pro. But I'm also interested in the Perception Pescador 10. Those two boats seem similar in features and price, and will both fit our needs. Between those two boats, which would you recommend and why? And would you be willing and able to do a video comparing those two side by side? I bought 2 of the Yukon bc I could find anything else to buy last year (craziness) They are crazy stable boats. I went out and had my dog with me and you can pretty much run around them and didn't even notice the dog. I also paddle in high position 6'1" 215lbs. But it isn't a speed machine and found in chop, water does come over the front a lot but drains really well and fast. I also have a jackson killjoy HD which a completely different class of boat and not fair to compare (that thing is a Cadillac). The boat is pretty heavy and don't like loading it by myself. I have only been kayaking for a little over one season and found I would definitely sacrifice a little stability for ease of paddle. So if the pro paddles better I would go with it having the yukon. I find myself wanting to travel the whole lake or area and ease of paddle is way more important to me now.

I just sold my Lifetime Tahoma, which is the recreational version of the Tamarack, because the molded in foot pegs only covered half my heel. I developed bone spurs on my heels. I would go kayaking three to four times a week. I just bought a Vibe Skipjack 90, and plan on getting a Hoodoo Element 100s. A friend bought a Lifetime Teton and said that it just sliced beautifully through the water. I'm turned off from buying another Lifetime, though.

Prior to Lifetime's entry into the fishing kayak arena, I remember their inexpensive rec/toy offerings. One of them was the Tahoma, which was legit for $200! Then the old Tahoma seemed to morph into the Tamarak. They're pretty much the same boat.
Now they're marketing the same-ish 10 ft fishyaks.
    Trippy!

I have the Teton 10' as my only current sit on to Kayak, and I love that boat with 2 exceptions. First and not a big deal is no cargo hatch, I have a couple from Amazon I just haven't gotten around to putting on yet. But the big thing for me is, it is the slowest boat I have ever paddled, the Kayak Group I am in have some members nicknaming the boat 'Hell'a'slow.' Fine for lazy days, but we go 10 miles + per trip sometimes against a current for a good portion of it suck as the Weeki Wachee or Rainbow Rivers.
What's your top recommended 12' sit on to Kayak for efficient/speed paddling over large lakes or against a river's current? I have a 14' Dagger sit inside as my main distance boat but want a little shorter one for those narrow twisty rivers to supplement my 10' Lifetime.

I just picked up 2 Kenai Pros at SAMs club for $329 each. It’s basically the same kayak as the Teton in a different color. Great value but not very stable. I couldn’t find the Tamarack pro anywhere. Overall, I’m very happy with the Kenai Pro at that price.

I have the yukon amd like you said, it’s not the fastest but the space and stability is amazing. Being able to stand up after paddling and sitting for a while is awesome. My only grip would be the tracking isnt the best. Ive seen the after market rudders help it a bunch but I think Ill hold off on one of those as I think Im going to put a trolling motor on mine.

Omg - this was awesome! Thank you! Perfect timing as I am purchasing my very first kayak this week 😱 I was planning the pro, but now the Yukon is the same price at $489, which completely threw a wrinkle into my thought. I know my son is planning to steal it to go fishing, so while I’m 5’ and have to load it on top of my XT5, I have to keep him in mind, plus the potential for a dog in the future. I LOVE the comparisons you do each year! Would love your thoughts on the Ascend brand!I have learned so much from watching your videos. Keep em coming!

I had a Yukon. Nice kayak. But just to let you know if you plan to car top, it does weight between 75 and 80 pounds.

From someone who has both a pro and Teton from this video. The pro is wayyy better. For all the features he shows. But it is more stable than the Teton. It’s a hair wider and a hair longer. You can tell it’s a much better kayak.
If you can buy the pro. If you can’t wait buy the Teton. If you need 2, I found the Teton is better suited for my gf while the pro is better for my self. So if you need a his or her Teton is great for the wife and the pro fits makes much better again stability from weight wise.

I started with a Teton last summer. Loved it! I live on the White River, Indy IN. Grabbed the Tamarack Pro in December to have two boats for family and friends. LOVE IT! Then, I added another Teton this May for a three fleet 😁. The Pro is my go to/preference mainly for the foot pegs, between legs storage, a bit more stability. Super happy to get out on the water most days. Dan, love your channel, thanks!

From experience dealing with big box stores. They like "unique" items. Things only they sell. It cuts down the need to price match online sellers.

I think kayak’s like the Lifetime are great for beginners and I consider them along with Ascend kayak’s as beginner/Entry level fishing kayak. They are great to get people into kayak fishing and once they master the Ascend/Lifetime kayaks, they can move on to a Pelican or 3waters kayak’s.

I have a lifetime Lancer 100 sit in. Bought it as my first kayak mostly because it was 30 inches wide and 55 pounds. Doesn't track great but for me at 180 pounds is pretty damn stable feeling. I really like the tamarack pro and was looking at one as an upgrade for a second boat

Dicks Sporting Goods also sells a Lifetime Teton Pro 11' 6" long, 32" wide with a flat deck and adjustable footrests. It also has the wheel in the keel.. It appears to be very similar to the Yukon (also 11' 6", not 12' 8").

Only if they are motorized. Your state may have different laws, but as far as I know there is no kayak registration.

Dan great video as always. Now have more to think about. I’ve been looking at the vibe yellowfin 120 as my first kayak. I want something that was stable that I could fish from easily, yet also tour around some waterways in NH. I’m thinking now then Tamarack may be better suited. Thoughts?

Hey, thanks for all the videos! I haven’t tried yet, but I’m wondering about replacing the generic foot pegs with the adjustable kind. I see people drilling out the rivets to get the old ones out. Won’t that ruin the holes for where the new ones are going to go?

I have the Teton from Dicks. I love it so far!! I did put 2 Yak Gear Paddle Holders on it tho. The only thing I wish it had was more storage. I'll be adding more soon plus a fishfinder. By the way I added a clamp-on drink holder on the seat from the bicycle section at Dicks Spirting Goods for $6 or $7. I use it for beer cough cough I mean water. Highly Recommended..

Hey Dan. I am a 63 yr old man looking to get into kayak fishing. I am a heavy set fellow at around 250 lbs and stand at 5'8". I was thinking I might like the feelfree 11.5 lure. Do you think that would be a good fit for me? I'm not so interested in being way down low in the kayak so that is why I was thinking about the lure. Can you recommend anything for me? Thanks, Brian from Nova Scotia, Canada.
