This level would hav been so much cooler without the terrible (BUTCHERED) Castlevania theme. Other than that it's a pretty exceptional level. It's probably the hardest last stage I've encountered in Castlevania other than the arcade (Haunted Castle) Castlevania in all the series. What's with recent Castlevanias? They just don't measure up in the sense of "last levels".
This stage has it all. Headless pirates, Crumbling bridge, falling stairs and instant-kill spikes! I like the touch of clouds in the higher areas.
The coolest praart is the three bosses that guard Dracula. First you face off against a skeleton creature called, Slogra, that has a spear he attempts to stab you with. That is until you deliver enough damage and he begins to unleash his claws on you.
The second is a gargoyle that attacks you with fireballs, and spikes that come down from the ceiling. He's fairly easy though.
The third is the Grim Reaper who dishes out the usual, the mini-scythes. Although it's a far cry from the difficulty in the first game, he still can pose a problem.
And finally is Dracula. I found this a bit of a disapointment for the end of this game. He's particurally easy, but can cheap you out if you let him.

The rising blocks at 2:34 is some of the cheapest game design I've ever seen. It's a puzzle, and unless you know when to jump and when not to jump, you'll die. While there are parts of other games that are just as bad, what makes this worse is that it comes at the end of a very long section, which isn't that easy in the first place due to buggy stairs physics.
I just ragequitted this stage for exactly that reason. That cheap ass jump puzzle is bad enough, but the stairs section is fucking bullshit. What SHOULD be an easy breather section gets unnecessarily difficult because of those bad physics you mentioned, and if you miss even when flight? You may as well start over. That shit is just plain unacceptable and ruins what is otherwise a really good game. Stage 8 comes close, but is at least actually doable if you have enough patience.

I've been playing this blind but this part made me give up and finally watch a playthrough to see what to actually fucking do. You get a split second to decide what to do and like no time to even figure out why what you tried failed.

Yes, it's the 2nd easiest old school CV game (after Simon's Quest), but I find Rondo of Blood much more balanced.
Here the enemies and bosses are too weak and cause very little damage to u, but the instant death things (like those spikes here, I hate em) can pose quite a problem.
In RoB the enemies and bosses are harder, but there's almost no instant death. You won't die if you leave the screen if there's a room below u (and most of the time there is), even the spikes don't kill u instantly.

Out of all the old-school Castlevania games, the Dracula battle in Super Castlevania 4 was the easiest ever, you didn't even have to worry about health loss in the first phase of the battle...

Yeah, even though this would be my favorate Castlevania, I do recognize the flaws in it. They definately made some great improvements in the next ones. Theres things I, as well, favor from the others that weren't so good in this. Like the Dracula fight from "Dracula X" I think it's done a lot better in that one compared to this.
Slogra might be the toughest boss in the game

Well, I can agree with you about the Grim Reaper. I used to find him VERY difficult, but Dracula I thought was a total joke. Especially since you can gain health off his orbs.

How did Dracula turn chicken into balls of energy, which attack you...then, turn back into chicken? Or, did he just summon a ball of energy which attacks you; then, turns into chicken? And, what would be the point of that?
DRACULA: "I'm going to attack you over and over again...with these balls of energy. You see...I'm doing that in order to hurt you. But, then, I feel bad for hurting you, sooooo...NOW, I'm going to turn those balls of energy into magic-chicken, in order to heal your wounds...which I just caused. You know what? Here's another one of those 'attacking energy balls,' you little turd! Aww...now, I feel bad again. Have some more magic-chicken."
I think this Dracula might be bi-polar.
You found an excellent way to beat dracula without resorting to the secret place before fighting Dracula. I guess some people didn't think of that kind of strategy with the whip since they can still move the whip after attacking. You and few others proved that you can still kick some a** without resorting to too much cheats and tricks.

Even though this is your opinion in 2009, I disagree. I think this Vampire Slayer is pretty kickass. It's cool to hear it on SNES.
That one jump you have to make while running from the spinning blade of death is such a bitch to me, any tips on how to make it everytime?

Boss at 3 minutes just keeps working me....I run as soon as I hit him and he always catches me on the way down or with his spear.....ahhhhhh
This game is still awsome even after more than 20 years played it as a teenager and now sti enjoying playing this on a snes emulator on my Wii. Best game out if the lot.

I HATE the spike ceiling near the end of the level! That thing FOREVER helped contribute to heart problems! LOL
C'est un de mes niveaux preferes car en plus d'etre le dernier et ses musiques fabuleuses ( le b-1 evoque le premier niveau du premier castlevania ) c'est celui ou il y'a le passage du b-2 que je surnomme la "tour infernale" avec en premiere partie tres speed a cause de sa roue mortelle qui balaye le bas de l 'ecran ses plates forme qui s'ecroule des qu'on pose le pied dessus ( la moindre erreur et c'est la mort assure ) et en seconde partie des plates forme qui monte en diagonale pour finir vers un plafond herisse de pieux ou il faut bien calculer ses sauts ( en 2:38 ) ! Et le final avant dracula 3 minis boss qui semblent etre les serviteurs du celebre comte ( dont la mort ! )

The one part of this game I have the biggest gripe with. Other than that, it's still my favorate game.
If this has been ported on the Wii (I'm not sure if it has been) I think they should remove that part.
The stairs moving platforms stage was the hardest!! Room of Close associates was relatively easy on the first try I passed it!! Dracula wasn't hard at all, but the some stages were oof
@Laveticus What do you not like about it? I find it rather silly receiving health in the middle of a boss battle, against Dracula no less. Moreover, it even lacks a second form. How anticlimactic is that?

Yeah, definately scared the shit outta me when I was a kid and still I get pretty nervous about it. I'm sure that part with the spikes has perminantly given me heart problems! :P

Actually, it's definately my style with all my games. I just finished Mega Man II without using any other weapons. Only Mega Man's cannon. I'll be uploading that soon and I just finished uploading Ninja Gaiden III the same way.
I don't really see the point in people uploading games where all the cheap ways to do it are revealed. Do something that requires some skill. Unless it's a walkthrough for people that don't know the game very well, so I certainly agree with you. :)

This game is so epic, the best Castlevania game made if you ask me. The castle stages are really tough but it wouldn't be Castlevania without some extreme castle levels

@ddunnpsyd and yes, Death was an absolute BITCH, he killed me more than the other two bosses put together until I figured his pattern out. Once I did, it was all easy street.

@ddunnpsyd ha ha, Gabon (that was the gargoyle's name) was not easy, what was cool was that you fought Slogra and Gabon as bosses in Symphony of the Night, and normal creatures later on. But I agree for the most part, the boses in this part were a major pain in the ass. But the music was epic and scary at times.
Get SNES9X v1.51 emulator, then open a rom of your choice. Once it opens, go to "file", scroll down to "record avi". It will now ask you to name the video file. After that's done it will ask you what type of video compression you want to use. Almost never use "Full Frames" cause it slows the crap outta you're computer and botches up the video. I usually run with IYUV or Mpeg4, but it depends on what your computer is best to handle. Just experiment. Hope that helps!

I do it on my first try usually now, but I used to make a lot of mistakes on this in the past.

@castlevaniaguy86 He was always hard for me in the past. Obviously at this point he's pretty easy, since i know what to do now. As for slogra, i remember having a MUCH easier time with him the first time i fought him than i had with death. The bosses in this game a pretty easy compared to bloodlines :). Bloodlines was a more challenging game by far IMO, i would have actually liked it better than this if i only had a controllable whip! No stair jumps really sucked in this.
Sorry, but that's just one of those "I can't really answer that" replies. There's a linear way to navigate the level, instead you skip it by leaping it all. Superior level knowledge? possibly. But if you're good enough to beat death and dracula (without using the invisible stairs) then surely you're good enough to get through the level the conventional way without resorting to skipping it. Think about that.

screw those damm pork chops in the sphere's. i agree! just to challenge myself, i try not picking them up, but they never really go away.
this is just my theory, but it's possible that nintendo realized their error in making NES games ridiculously brutal and far more challenging to a young demographic, thus beginning a trend of "ease" over time. however, while they may have made these games easier for the kids, nintendo's core audience was growing exponentially - thus, adept to challenge.

Yes, I know. I thought it was pretty cheesy how they let you turn his orbs into health by hitting them. And to top it off, they EVEN put the music from the FIRST LEVEL in this battle!! UGH.. Very sad for an otherwise awesome game!

well actually, he jumps most of the level leading up to each boss, and just sits in the corner while fighting grim reaper... thats a cheap trick.
