Yes, it would have been impossible to port Rondo of Blood to the SNES, but I also agree that it would have been sweet if it was possible to port Rondo of Blood to SNES. Dracula X es un buen juego, pero no lo llamaría "el mejor". Su juego y los controles son inferiores a SCV4. El estilo del arte es interesante, pero SCV4 sigue siendo uno y es uno de un juego bueno en la serie, mientras que Castlevania adoptó más adelante el estilo cartoonish para el resto de la serie.
Wow! Honestly in my opinion this is one of the easier castevania games but dang you made it seem like it was so easy you breezed right through it! Great playthrough!
I love this one! It will soon come out on virtual console on WiiU, so i'll pick it right up. Personally, Castlevania IV is still my favorite, just because of the amount of time I spent on that one as a kid.
And oh wow, is this the only Castlevania game where Dracula is teleporting by turning into mist, instead of calling for the Starship Enterprise to beam him around the room with the site to site transporter? O_O
Brilliant run, I'm amazed this was achieved. One of my favorite parts was at 10:11; in that part it's so easy to get knocked off the ledge and fall a long way, so it was a smart move to use the crash attack. Or at 33:34, waiting for the ledge to be moving forward as you jumped, so you could grab the invincibility jug and take out the axe man with it. So many details like this were great. Bravo!

I feel like dracula x is still somewhat a good game. True it could never hold a candle to rondo of blood but at least we got to experience the superb graphical quality from that game without waiting 15 or so years or so for the real rondo of blood.
Considering how different DX is from Rondo, I don't think comparing them directly is a good idea. Rondo has its own good and bad things and DX has its own pluses and minuses.
***** I'd say it's much less dark in tone and visuals, than Rondo. The reason mainly being the awfully colorful palette used in it. Everything is colored in like a bright purple or blue with not much contrast in brightness, but mainly complementary contrasts used instead. Rondo has a lot more dark stages in comparison withe the palette used for them often being much closer to the NES games.
I don't connect this one with Rondo (though it's literally a different telling of which; soundtrack and all), and for that right, I think it's one of my favorites. -It's provocative, and leaves more of a lasting appeal/memory than Rondo did. Rondo tried to channel every other game to give it that "Castlevania feel" (down to the village resembling CV II), while CVX on the other hand tried to do something different, while also pushing the SNES to its limits. I applaud that.
I love this game and firmly believe all problems people had with it are a matter of expectations vs reality. Expectation 1: "I want a game that controls like Castlevania (the one they know at least, SCIV)" Reality 1: The game controls like a NES Castlevania, appeals to the sensibilities of that control in its level design. Expectation 2: "This game is a piss poor port of Rondo of Blood" Reality 2: No, this game should be considered a different entry that reused assets for faster development, besides, if you were a Castlevania fan back then you didn't even know what the fuck Rondo was. Expectation 3: This game is too cheap compared to SCIV, Reality 3: No shit Sherlock, this is perfectly in line with the NES Castlevanias while SCIV was made to be more accessible. Expectation 4: I want to beat Dracula but he is too damn cheap, fucking pillars, this is too hard unlike past Castlevanias, Reality 4: Do you even crouch to prevent knockback bro? I love this game, I think graphically it is one of the better looking games in the console and the 16 bit entries tbh. The music, while not exactly CD quality it is absolutely top notch and makes excellent use of the soundfont on the SNES, there's no mode 7 gimmicks, but have you seen the fire in the first level? At the end of the day this is a fine game and everything I expect from a Castlevania game... Actions must be deliberate, patience must be had to traverse, music is excellent in both sound quality, arrangement and composition, difficulty is high, boss fights are excellent. I'm not saying this is the best Castlevania by any chance, but this falls perfectly in line with what you'd expect if you played Castlevania since the NES. I find it petty that people judge it by what it is not (Super Castlevania 4 and/or Rondo of Blood) rather than what it is, which is another new entry and the last one to feel distinctively Classicvania before Metroid took over.
Well said, and I agree. At first I played this on emulator from PC many years ago and didn't like it that much. I only casually played the first level back then. But now that I have downloaded the 3DS Virtual Console Japanese version of the game and playing thru it seriously, I have to say I love this game as well. The graphics and especially the music are top notch. So many people compare this game with Rondo of Blood. I don't know why the comparison as they seem to be 2 very different games with only some of the assets reused for faster development. I also know almost nothing about Rondo of Blood as I don't have the system for it. I knew nothing about it back then and I don't get to play it now and honestly I don't care. Dracula XX is a great game regardless. I am happy to have it on my 3DS Virtual Console and I glad Nintendo released it.
If a SNES Classic Edition is released (make at least a few million more than the NES Classic please), hopefully they'll put this & SuperC4 on there to follow the NES Classic having 2 Castlevania games on it. Excellent music, especially on the map screen.
I am pretty sure that they will put Super Castlevania 4 on SNES mini, as it is one of the most well-remembered and well-regarded titles on the console, but I am not sure if that is the case with Dracula X. On the other hand, NES Mini had Castlevania 1 and 2, as opposed to Castlevania 3, which considered to be one of the best classic games in the series. So, some surprises are still possible.

I totally agree, the sound effects are WAY better than rondo of blood on the turbo duo. However, the music sounds better on the turbo duo since the game is on a cd. Heck even the graphics on Dracula x looks better than rondo of blood.

I thought htis was a great game and very underrated probably my 3rd fav in the series, for dracula i just pretty much stayed in one area like you said and maybe hoped around the area here and there to make it go a bit quicker but never to the other side of the room. The 2nd form's blue beam attack really annoyed me though

can you answer me a few questions? 1.-richter is the strongest belmont? 2.-which is the relationship between richter and alucard? 3.-if he is still alive after SOTN, and he is so strong, why he isnt the principal player after this events?
1. I don't know and I don't care about power levels. 2. They are allies. 3. He is somehow lost ability to use Vampire Killer (most likely because he was mindcontrolled by Shaft). It was never exlained what had happened.
It just loses a lot of its quality (IMO of course). I have both games and going from the CD Redbook audio to SNES just seems off. Good run either way. I still think Rondo is the best of the bunch, a big shame we never got it in the States.
The game always looked great -- and played well, too -- but to me, the soundtrack was an enormous letdown after the amazing music from Castlevania IV. Too much Mega Man X-type synth going on, not nearly enough of the moody, atmospheric tracks which made IV such a standout. It was a big step back for the soundtrack, I thought.
Aaron Schafer While it's indeed too upbeat, almost Streets of Rage like, it's still a damn good Soundtrack, which, in my opinion, did fit the game very nicely. Since it's a more colorful and less atmospheric Castlevania game.
By the same margin Super Castlevania 4 is also a bad game, as well as most other classic Castlevanias. It's a game itself that matter and while Dracula X is not without problems, it is fairly interesting project with its own atmosphere and specific gameplay.
***** Yeah, I always felt the older Castlevania games where about atmosphere, gameplay, and minimal story. The story is mostly told through its visuals like a picture book but thats how I like it. There's something epic about whipping through the castle with only your "whip and courage." The metroidvania style games are fun but they don't have the mythical and epic quality these have. Super Castlevania 4 (my favorite) and Bloodlines are my top 2.

Ugh...I wouldn't say that DX is much more serious. It's still very cartoonish and as much removed from the original three games as Rondo.

Technically there are 7 levels. However, there are two alternative levels (4' and 5'), which you can visit.

i think the first version, rondo of blood, is way better then this one, to me dracula x is just an ok port, fun, but just ok, great run though! :D

Absolutely despise what they did to Rondo's soundtrack, just sounds so off compared to the guitar based OST.
Still a pretty decent game.
Despite losing volume of the ROB OST, Dracula X version sounds more pronounced and crisp. IMO, it's a good trade.
But for each its own.
It just loses a lot of its quality (IMO of course). I have both games and going from the CD Redbook audio to SNES just seems off.
Good run either way. I still think Rondo is the best of the bunch, a big shame we never got it in the States.

fun game to short
The game always looked great -- and played well, too -- but to me, the soundtrack was an enormous letdown after the amazing music from Castlevania IV. Too much Mega Man X-type synth going on, not nearly enough of the moody, atmospheric tracks which made IV such a standout. It was a big step back for the soundtrack, I thought.
Aaron Schafer While it's indeed too upbeat, almost Streets of Rage like, it's still a damn good Soundtrack, which, in my opinion, did fit the game very nicely. Since it's a more colorful and less atmospheric Castlevania game.
Man, Konami just didn't gave a crap on this one. That ending was terrible.
By the same margin Super Castlevania 4 is also a bad game, as well as most other classic Castlevanias. It's a game itself that matter and while Dracula X is not without problems, it is fairly interesting project with its own atmosphere and specific gameplay.
***** Yeah, I always felt the older Castlevania games where about atmosphere, gameplay, and minimal story. The story is mostly told through its visuals like a picture book but thats how I like it. There's something epic about whipping through the castle with only your "whip and courage." The metroidvania style games are fun but they don't have the mythical and epic quality these have. Super Castlevania 4 (my favorite) and Bloodlines are my top 2.
