Agreed. It's one of my favorite lines from Pearl Jam. But: I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why Why, why can't it be, oh can't it be mine? from "Black" never fails to make my heart stop for a second either.

Speaking musically, Eddie's voice is fantastic, of course, but for me, the highlight has to be that Hamer 12 string bass guitar that you hear as the first instrument, and can hear constantly churning away under the track, drumming up a dark, dismal undertone to the song. The overdriven guitars punctuating the bass, which takes on a lead role, with the sharp "pap pap" of the drums, all under Eddie's phenomenal voice really brings the song together. Everything just fits together perfectly, in my opinion. Great reaction, man. Honestly, if we had gone to the same school at the same time, I would've 100% been friends with you and offered you a place to stay if you needed one. I did it for a lot of my friends back then. We were all from pretty screwed up families, so it wasn't unusual for any one of us to show up to another's house to crash for a night or two, in order to escape our home lives when they got too hectic. I have a suggestion for a song reaction, too. A couple, actually. One of them is "Rotting Out" by Descendents, off of the album "Everything Sucks". Another is "The Still and The Lost" by The Gamits (pronounced Gamm-its) off of the album "Parts". Both are totally solid punk/pop punk/melodic punk songs, and if you like the story behind "Jeremy", you'll probably enjoy "The Still and The Lost" too, as it's about a very similar subject, but told from a very different point of view. Eddie Vedder is the voice of my youth. When all the other girls were arguing about which pop star was was hottest I was in love with Eddie and Chris Cornell. I had all their albums, I used to stay up late and record their songs off the radio if I didn't have the album. They were life ❤❤❤ I was also infatuated with the kid in this video ❤
You're not the only girl.... just as many other girls love artists for their crafts too. You don't have to bash on other women just to lift yourself up and act like the really misogynist trope of the "exceptional girl "not like other girls"" crap. That's just messed up. And plenty of boys argue with each other over hot superstars too. Or they genuinely like female artists for their crafts as well. Gender has nothing to do with it. And don't forget amazing female artists too.
@@Emma88178 I wasn't bashing or talking down about anyone, I was speaking to my expierence at the time. I was the weirdo because I wasn't into all the typical things the other girls in my grade/school at the time were into. And the irony that you accused of trying to tear others down to build myself up, but your reply (to a 10 month old comment) was EXACTLY that. You don't know me, or my expierences so stop speaking on it
I always LOVE your analysis Mark! Very intellectual and introspective...Please check out the MTV unplugged version. You should watch the entire concert. PJ is one of my top GOATS! Keep up the great work!
I just want to tell you how impressed I was with how in tune you were the subtle imagery and how you worked it all out within less than 30 seconds into the song. Obviously the story or message isn’t obscure, but to work it all out so quickly with no background or history was hella impressive! Also loved your appreciation for Vedder’s voice❤
Caroline Collins So was I - from elementary through high school. Thankfully I never considered suicide....they weren’t worth it & I did have wonderful, supportive parents.
dude, checking in from Brazil. I was a teen when this came out and this video made me go into filmmaking so powerful it was. amazing to seeing you react to it today with such open heart and eyes. really touching about the staying power of art.
I remember when this came out. I was young and didn't get the deepness. It wasn't until I matured that I started to appreciate Eddie Vedder and his musicianship. Respect for looking it up straight away after. Most dont do that but I could tell it touched you that you just had to know the rest. A sign of a curious and generous mind.
Pearl Jam is my favorite band, here's some more songs by them to react to: "Once" "Alive" "Last Kiss" "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" "Yellow Ledbetter" and "Rearview Mirror" Great reaction!
I'm so glad you had your gran looking over you!! It's horrible how nasty people can be! I honestly believe bullys hate something about themselves that they are so mean!!
ive been on a jeremy kick tonight.. watching reactions of video. i stumbled upon you tonight.. i really really enjoyed your reaction and subscribed and i look forward to looking thru your channel and seeing more from you
Bless your heart..I'm so sorry for what you went through. I was bullied in high school pretty bad too. A 16 yr old new girl from the city suddenly in the country, was date raped by the neighbor boy I went to school with that resulted in the pregnancy of my oldest child. The bullying and harassment was vicious. To say the least it was traumatic. Notes from kids at school that were his friends left in my books calling me a liar and the KC whore. Anyhow with that being said, I loved your reaction to this and Black. Loved and subscribed! God bless you 🙏❤
I myself was “suppose” to be a school shooter when I was in high school, 1994-1998, due to the non stopped bullying I received from being laugh at & mimicked by other peers mocking of my neurological movement disorder named “Generalized Dystonia, physical not mental.... Luckily for those mention above I had an amazing family & a small handful of awesome friends, lucky for me as well.... Time went on & in my senior year of high school those who were my “bullies” from freshman to junior year were now my “protectors”, especially the females who were my antagonist at points in time, these chicks would damn near about to fight anyone who even had a negative thought of me....
If anyone is thinking of suicide please talk to people. You have your entire life ahead of you. Your pain can diminish and you can find happiness and joy in the world. Get help and this is coming from someone who knows. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem...so please reconsider, your worth your life.
I’m sorry that you were treated so badly. You didn’t deserve that and I’m happy you’re here sharing your perspective. I have really enjoyed your reaction!
The fact that this song sold millions upon millions of copies and the way kids connected with it will tell you that you were not alone. Many kids felt the same and Eddie sang for all of them. That is why he connected with an entire generation. The sad thing is we haven't learned a thing. Jeremy could probably speak for school shooters and the first time I heard it, that's what I thought it was about.
Sorry to hear about your early life experiences. You come across very well in the video. Great insights into a classic song. Have a great day - love from the UK
I really enjoy spending my free time watching 🎶 reactions just subscribed my favorite pearl jam song is( GARDEN( thanks . millions of blessings to you.
YoU aRe THE MAN!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this amazing reaction. Thank you so much for giving this band/song the intense reaction it absolutely deserves. Pearl Jam is the band of a generation.
Best reaction ever! You felt that pain in the repetition. Although eer bullied really, I dealt with trauma as a kid and feel Jeremy's pain too. You went through all that and here you are. " yes. You are a ' king.' Carry on son.
New subber here. Great reaction to a great song and video. Sorry you had to go through bullying in school. So sad, but it seems you have overcome the cruelness of others. All I see is a very strong compassionate man who put that behind him. Much peace to you!
I’ve been studying for this big exam I have on the 19th. Once I take it I’ll be back to doing reactions. So most likely I’ll be back the 20th or the 21st
credit to the kid in this video as well. his facial expressions really make you feel his anguish and pain, combined with eddie's voice and the music....
I love your reaction, the jamming to the beat and the comments about the seriousness of the topic....It's one of my favorite songs by Pearl Jam. And it's sad when kids don't have anybody to relay on in the struggling stages of their life....so they choose a path like this, not knowing that they have things to live for. Great song :)
Mark is very perceptive and intelligent. The thing about "Jeremy" is that it was ahead of it's time. It is in fact a genius song. Pearl Jam felt they needed to address something that didn't even really become a mainstream issue back in the early 90's. I've dissected the video. I understand it completely. It's a lot deeper than even fans of the song realize. If more people understood the song more we'd have way less mass shootings and suicides. That's why this song was made. It's explaining something that most people can't completely understand and how to avoid it happening again and again and again. Sadly not enough people cared or even bothered to fully understand.
I'm waaaaay late with this comment but I just gotta ask. Have the people that were picking on you about your voice ever heard Mike Tyson's voice back in the day? Because, uh, a person's voice has nothing to do with their ability to kick your ass. To quote Vince Neil from Motley Crue, "Just because I'm wearing make up, that doesn't mean I can't kick your ass"
I am so sorry you dealt with what you did but so glad you pushed through. First your eyes are GOREGOUS! Your skin tone is beautiful and the fact that you kept to your books and didnt let the bad things in your life take you down is admirable. Kids are so cruel and the sad fact of reality is people fear the monsters they create.
Sorry that you went through so much, but how you turned out, you seem like a great dude. Glad you're in a better place with more positivity in your life. Stay safe bro
I love the way you took that in. Glad you fully absorb the information as it unfolds. Eddie Vedder has a lot of bluesy soulful music out there. Firstly, the singer's name is Vedder, Eddie. didn't read through all the comments to see if anyone covered that one. Secondly The young man who played Jeremy in the video (Trevor Wilson) died recently in 2016,. He died of drowning in the second hurricane that year, there is a tribute to him in an updated version of the video.
So sorry to hear what you went through growing up. So glad that you succeeded and are here to bring us your thoughts on music. You are amazing and God Bless you!
Thank you for sharing your life with this reaction. You being real... (I was being bullied, back when this song came out. it definitely had an effect on me.) It's a powerful song and Eddies vocals are amazing in it. New subscriber!
Brother, you are so bright, alive, honest and real. Loved your reaction to one of my favorite songs. Thank you sharing your story as well. You have the greatest spirit and vibe. Subscribed and looking forward to following you my man!
I remember being in my early 20s and seeing this video. It gripped me. It was so deep, the way it was written, sung with such a heartwrenching and pensive tone, and the video so artistically composed with the music. I cried when I first saw it. I agree......it is genius and has made Pearl Jam one of my favorite bands and Eddie Veddar one of my top favorite vocalists. And when I hear this song and every other Pearl jam song, , it places me back 30 years, like time stood still. Its genius and I appreciate your positive reaction to this band.
Their concerts are always 3 hours long and they leave everything on stage! I will go to one on every tour!! I've seen many band's but Pearl Jam is my favorite. 💖
discovered your account through Pearl Jam. and yes I totally agree with with the whole explaining of Eddie's performance. You have to watch the MTV music awards 92 of Pearl Jam's performance. it's so intense. the ending, man. PJ is my favorite band. such a passionate band loooooove your intro. cool vibes 🤙🏻 and I can totally relate to your school time. I had the same experiences, was bullied, didn't have any friends and because of that I developed a social anxiety, panic attacks. was and am still depressed and suicidal. I even have ptsd and because of that whole trauma and also nightmares of my school time. even my elementary school teacher bullied me. I was the quiet and shy girl, well still am. It's been 6 years since I graduated and it still affects me. so yeah, I could have been Jeremy. but music kept me going through this school of hell. it still keeps me going.
This is such an amazing reaction, thank you for honestly sharing your story about being bullied, and the hardships you went through and overcame. Watching you let it out in the last 1-2 minutes of the song was so powerful. This so g was always incredibly moving to me, but your life experiences and reaction add to the humanity of it all. Glad to see you flourishing now, I’m glad to subscribe and be a part of it, you have a really unique voice, in the best possible way.
So sorry to hear about what you went through. You are clearly a strong and driven person ✨✨✨✨ If you haven’t already done so you must watch the Unplugged version of this The passion and pain Eddie shows in that is amazing Really love your channel. Take care!
Honey I'm so sorry you had to go through that! People suck! Glad you were strong enough to plow through the bs! All young people should see this! Bullying is never ok!
You reacted the same way I reacted the first time I saw the video, which I think is the point. Vibing to the music, going along like everything is great, oblivious to the time bomb in your midst. Imo that's the message they're trying to send with this song and video. If you watch/listen a second time you can see that the warning signs were there almost from the beginning, but you don't pay attention until you know how it ends. You're just having fun, as the bullies and teachers and parents were just having fun at the child's expense...until it wasn't fun anymore. A few bits of foreshadowing: They flat out tell you in the very beginning "The serpent was subtil [sic]", i.e. "You're not going to see this coming". In fact, you called the ending twice during the video and still didn't see it coming. Genesis 3:6, when Eve eats the fruit, an end of innocence "My jaw dropped wide open, just like the day I heard" foreshadowing some shocking event The next scene in the classroom has all the factors leading to his suicide listed on the blackboard The recurring "Jeremy spoke in class today", obvious after the fact Eddie puts his fingers to his head like a gun multiple times in the video "Try to erase this from the blackboard", again obvious after the fact. The signs are all there, but no one saw them, because no one was looking for them. You, me, his parents, teachers, and classmates are all just vibing to the song, oblivious to the screeching alarm bells, until we are suddenly and violently snapped out of our revelry by the appearance of the gun. That feeling, I would imagine, is the same feeling experienced by the people actually there, only a hundredfold. And just like we missed the warnings in the video, or dismissed them because "Nah, that can't happen", they missed the warnings he had to have been giving off. I feel like Pearl Jam wanted us to get a tiny taste of the shock of the situation and the consequences of assuming that that kind of behavior is just "innocent fun". Not definitive, just my take.
It's really relieving to hear other people not be judgmental about people dealing with suicidal thoughts or feelings. So many people get so bitter and judgmental. I especially get upset when people claim that it "hurts others more than it hurts them!" I just think "did the pain you felt when they were gone make YOU attempt suicide? No? Then it didn't hurt you more, did it?" I have a scale up to 5 I use for my mental health. It helps me keep track of where I am based on where my focus is so I know how to talk to others and when to start reaching out for help. 0 is everything is fine 1 is "I wish it would all go away" Problem external, solution external. 2 is "I wish I could just go away" Problem external, solution internal 3 is "I wish I could just not be" Problem internal, solution internal At 3, you don't actually consider suicide as an option. If you do, you quickly discount the idea because you know how much it would hurt people who love you. But something happens at 3.5 where concern for others becomes resentment that people think THEIR grief is more important than ending the pain you feel. That people expect you to continue suffering, and would call you "weak" or a "coward" for not wanting to suffer any more. By the time you reach 4, you simply no longer care about other people's feelings. 4 is "I want to kill myself" This is full suicidal ideation. On average, I've gotten to 4 around 3-4 times per year since I was about 15. Diagnosed with "moderate to severe" chronic depression and currently on meds for it that don't turn me into a zombie. It hasn't been as often over the last couple years, though. 5 is making plans or attempts. I've hit 5 three times in my life. Each time someone was there to get in my way, for which I'm very grateful, though only once did that person know that's what they were doing. Most people simply have no idea what the signs are. When most people reach out for help, in my experience, they will make completely normal, reasonable attempts to connect in highly unusual ways. "Why did you call at 2 in the morning just to invite me over for tea some time this week?" Because they're in crisis mode and need you there now, but can't bring themselves to say that when they don't even know if you care enough to come. "Why did you make a group chat with several people just to say you're feeling sad or unmotivated?" Please don't respond to such a message with "mAyBE yOu NeEd fReSH aiR!" "Why is your invitation to hang out so short and uncapitalized? You usually care so much about spelling and grammar." No, really. Typing in all lower case with no periods is one of my tells. If you don't have this illness and have never been at your worst and had people dismiss, ignore, downplay, or get fed up with your pleas for help, you don't understand. You don't know the trauma that keeps us from saying "Hey, I'm struggling with severe depression and suicidal ideation and I really need someone to sit with me for a day or so without judging me or panicking or criticize how quickly I'm recovering." We can't say that. It's a trauma response. No matter how close we are or how much we love you, at that moment we don't trust you. We can't trust in that state. So we code our plea for help in normality so that if you don't help, we can ascribe plausible deniability to you and not end up hating you. Yeah, it's fucked up. But that's because our brains are fucked up. I mean, that's literally the CAUSE of the problem in the first place.
Loved your reaction..I've been a fan of Pearl Jam since the beginning and watching you enjoy for the first time it is so amazing..Pearl Jam and Ed have a way of drawing you in..their music and lyrics are theraputic..seeing them live is the best feeling in the world
“Try to erase this from the blackboard” one of the deepest lyrics ever written
Agreed. It's one of my favorite lines from Pearl Jam. But:
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, oh can't it be mine?
from "Black" never fails to make my heart stop for a second either.
i dunno. . the 'i know you'll be a star in somebody elses sky' line was pretty deep as well
I was wondering if he was going to catch that.
"I know i was born, i know that ill die
The in between is mine
I am mine
Way late on this comment but what the heck....from this song, I think this line is great : "And the boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear"

Thank you I greatly appreciate it. I will check it out
A masterpiece that is still powerful 3 decades later.
Pearl Jam does a really good job at having meaningful songs. I love this band .... that’s all I can say! ❤️
I was bullied in school as well. Pearl Jam is amazing as are you ❤
Caroline Collins So was I - from elementary through high school. Thankfully I never considered suicide....they weren’t worth it & I did have wonderful, supportive parents.
You’re not alone. Bless you.
Brother, if you got nobody else, you got someone in your corner. If you ever need a friend, hit me up. You always got someone rooting for you, fam.
Thank you I greatly appreciate it definitely means a lot
dude, checking in from Brazil.
You have such a wonderful soul!
Great reaction❤❤
Thank you I greatly appreciate it
Pearl Jam is my favorite band, here's some more songs by them to react to: "Once" "Alive" "Last Kiss" "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" "Yellow Ledbetter" and "Rearview Mirror" Great reaction!
God bless you 🙏❤
You are an absolute pleasure. I miss you. Definitely the best since Lost in Vegas.
Wow everything that you have said about this track are the thoughts I couldn't put into words. Best review I've ever seen for this song. Amazing !
Right? It's mind blowing live
Pearl Jam made incredible music. Awesome reaction too, brotha. Earned a sub from me tonight.
So much respect for sharing your story…this song gave a voice to many people struggling and the way you broke it down was spot on
I love that you related Kelly Rowland to this song. Nobody does that. That’s great.
Edit: Oh dude, your story. Love you brother.
Thank you I definitely appreciate it. Gratitude
Great reaction love your positivity! Wishing you all the best and hope you keep going.
Just came across your video, so sorry for what you had to deal with growing up, I can relate!! Keep doing what you're doing, Pearl Jam is amazing
Bro where you been? Missing your reactions!
I’ve been studying for this big exam I have on the 19th. Once I take it I’ll be back to doing reactions. So most likely I’ll be back the 20th or the 21st
@@MarkColeman121587 awesome!! Good luck with the exam, you gotta catch up on some Snow Tha Product reactions 😁
credit to the kid in this video as well. his facial expressions really make you feel his anguish and pain, combined with eddie's voice and the music....
Your personal story inspires me.... and i love Pearl Jam!
subscribed
Nice reaction dude loved it esp you did on Jeremy one of my fav Grunge songs
I love your reaction, the jamming to the beat and the comments about the seriousness of the topic....It's one of my favorite songs by Pearl Jam. And it's sad when kids don't have anybody to relay on in the struggling stages of their life....so they choose a path like this, not knowing that they have things to live for. Great song :)
I knew you'd appreciate this ~ and thanks for being honest. Much ❤
Mark is very perceptive and intelligent.
Thank you for sharing your past and your openness, you are truly a bodhisattva.
You just can't get any better than that!!! That was amazing!!!
Excellent reaction, I felt you feel it.
Glad to see you didn’t let your experience keep you down. Accurate reaction. I’ll keep watching bro.
Peace ✌🏼
Thank you for sharing your life with this reaction. You being real... (I was being bullied, back when this song came out. it definitely had an effect on me.) It's a powerful song and Eddies vocals are amazing in it. New subscriber!
I thoroughly enjoyed this review. Happy to find your channel!
PJ is my favorite band. such a passionate band
loooooove your intro. cool vibes 🤙🏻
and I can totally relate to your school time.
Screw those kids. Your a great person!
Hey man, great reaction brother!! You're a class act man. I love how you show when you're feelin it.
Glad to see you flourishing now, I’m glad to subscribe and be a part of it, you have a really unique voice, in the best possible way.
hands down best reaction to this one
So sorry to hear about what you went through. You are clearly a strong and driven person ✨✨✨✨
If you haven’t already done so you must watch the Unplugged version of this
The passion and pain Eddie shows in that is amazing
Really love your channel. Take care!
You got more out of this in the first 20 seconds than most people get in till the end, so 100% new sub here.
You. Are. AMAZING! Thank you for being you. Sending Love from the UK 💜 -x-
Thank you for this reaction. This is what makes Pearl Jam so special, their profound lyrics that touch you to the core. You felt it.
A few bits of foreshadowing:
They flat out tell you in the very beginning "The serpent was subtil [sic]", i.e. "You're not going to see this coming". In fact, you called the ending twice during the video and still didn't see it coming.
Genesis 3:6, when Eve eats the fruit, an end of innocence
"My jaw dropped wide open, just like the day I heard" foreshadowing some shocking event
The next scene in the classroom has all the factors leading to his suicide listed on the blackboard
The recurring "Jeremy spoke in class today", obvious after the fact
Eddie puts his fingers to his head like a gun multiple times in the video
"Try to erase this from the blackboard", again obvious after the fact.
No? Then it didn't hurt you more, did it?"
I have a scale up to 5 I use for my mental health. It helps me keep track of where I am based on where my focus is so I know how to talk to others and when to start reaching out for help.
0 is everything is fine
1 is "I wish it would all go away" Problem external, solution external.
2 is "I wish I could just go away" Problem external, solution internal
3 is "I wish I could just not be" Problem internal, solution internal
At 3, you don't actually consider suicide as an option.
"Why did you make a group chat with several people just to say you're feeling sad or unmotivated?" Please don't respond to such a message with "mAyBE yOu NeEd fReSH aiR!"
"Why is your invitation to hang out so short and uncapitalized?
This is my favorite song of all time and your reaction is the best. I'm actually jealous how you can move to this song lol.
Welcome to Pearl Jam. Glad you have found them.
Loved your reaction..I've been a fan of Pearl Jam since the beginning and watching you enjoy for the first time it is so amazing..Pearl Jam and Ed have a way of drawing you in..their music and lyrics are theraputic..seeing them live is the best feeling in the world
I remember when that song came out. I was in junior high. Wow. Great reaction vid and made me a new subscriber.
