Eddie is a sweet man it seems. He doesn't want to say anything negative. He's past it and seems to have an understanding of the dynamics of what went on in his early life. It's called emotional intelligence.
I had Mr. Moreno my freshman year. He was the Spanish teacher at San Dieguito; good guy. Can't remember if Eddie was in my class. Although, Eddie and I rode the bus together everyday (until we could drive), I had no idea he was living alone. Listening to this 40+ years later is a trip. I worked at the Italian Restaurant a couple doors down from Longs Drugs in Encinitas. I didn't even know Eddie worked there. I just never went in. That was my first job, probably his too. Now he's on Howard Stern and I'm sitting here on my laptop looking for a job... Wow, the irony!
Moreno was my teacher too. Not a good guy. Physically and verbally sexually harassed me for two years. Turns out he had been targeting underage female students for 15 years and the school administration did not nothing. Finally the year after I graduated, he was found guilty and went to prison for three years. I was the same grade as Eddie and had a couple classes with him. HE was a good guy. (I worked at Picnic n Chicken across the street from Long's)
It is the good and the bad that life gives us. I live on the other side of the world, I am reading the comment of someone I do not know and yet I identify. I am unemployed just like you at the moment. I hope you get out of this, greetings from Argentina
I can listen to Eddie Vedder all day
And Alive was born
If anyone deserves success and happiness it's this guy! Love Eddie Vedder!!
What is a normal child hood anyway? I personally don’t know many people who lived one
All the interesting people I've met usually never have a normal childhood.
Me neither
Never met anyone who lived a normal child hood.
True
mine was worse but i think this is why im such a huge PJ fan , his lyrics , i relate to them so much, very deep, thank you EV and PJ for making my life better just with your magical music
He's definitely the only musician/vocalist, I really want to meet and have a cup of tea and cigarette with.
The other would be Paul McCartney.
May I join you?
One of the best interviews Howard has ever done
Same thing happened to me. I found out my dad wasn't my real dad when I was 14. My older brother told me. Like Eddie when I found out it was a shock but I was happy. I knew why I was being treated so differently and that I wasn't his son.
ten was one of the first albums i bought as a kid. and i remember knowing every detail of every track. but i thought he said "sorry you didn't see him, but i play the guitar" . . . and it wasn't till i was in my twenties singing along to "alive" nostalgically with an old friend when he called me out on having the words wrong. . . . it's crazy how good music was back then, you could just make up yer own words and sing along to nonsense. the notes mattered more.
Lol, good point - and I feel that way with Kurt Cobain's lyrics, they can be so abstract or resemble dada poetry sometimes ahah but in the end it's not our job to analyze the music, but feel it...
“That’s a fucking interesting twist...” LOL
Same happened to Jack Nicholson...he grew up thinking his mother was his sister and his grandma was his mom. He didn't find out the truth till he was about 40; a reporter from Time magazine was doing a profile on him and dug up the facts.
My mom told me when I was 26 that I had a brother and a sister I never knew about. The day she told me, she wanted me to meet him the very next day. She said I was a selfish asshole for not wanting to go.
“That’s a fucking interesting twist” 😂
Such a god damn dude!!!! Vedder rules 🤟
Stern don't mess around with these questions.
Loved 10, like Vedder even more after this interview. What a strong individual
Saw him and PJam 6 yrs ago, I actually understood everyword he sang! They were fantastic, and he's cool as it gets!
Gruesome childhoods are a gift.
lead you to the wonderful World of Recovery.
I am such a fan of Howard Stern and Eddie Vedder, love the way you keep it real...
Eddie the great story-teller!! Keep smiling 🤘🎸☺
Now I know the inspiration for Alive.
Eddie reminds me a lot of Fred....... I love my Fred
A lot of people are commenting that they Love the "Ten" Album.... PJ has 10 OTHER Studio Albums that are also freaking awesome! I'm a fan of all of their Albums and have been with them since 91...
Ten-Riot Act is pretty much perfection, plus Lost Dogs collection is probably my favorite they released. Their scraps and B-sides were better than most bands greatest hits.
Very evolved way of looking at things. Wonder how he got there, the process.
He’s the dopest!
I love Eddie Vedder.
Eddie I love you soooo much🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
He's totally amazing!
I wish my mother told me Eddie was my real brother 😎....
What a sweet eddie... Much more like eddie.
Thankyou eddie for sharing this power
My favorite rock star
His voice makes my pewsay quiver 🙃
Side note his Rickenbacker collection makes it tremble into eternity!
Well... Is there a famous rock singer out there who did have a "normal" childhood ? It almost seems like a mandatory thing when you want to become the singer of a rock band to have an abnormal childhood or somekind of unsettling event that happened in your childhood.
I love Tommy!
Wow didn't know the song alive is true
The camera is over here Eddie.
Glad he used a good mic and not shitty AirPods
Okay looking for answers. He grew up as Eddie Mueller, and in PJ20 it says his REAL name was Edward Louis Severson, so where did Vedder come from?
Coolest dude alive though🚫🧢
I think it may have been his Mom's maiden name...at least that's what I read a few times...
Vedder is Ed's mom's maiden name. When Ed found out the his dad wasn't his real dad he took his mother's sur name. And Eddie Vedder was born!
I believe Vedder is his mother's last name
I think Vedder is his mom's name
I love Eddie man. But a part of me wants to give him a knuckle sandwich for firing Dave abbruzzese
Let me tell you a story oh yeah about a boy. Eddie has a few things most don't. He's good-looking, he's intelligent, and contrary to what he wants us to think, he was not a loser in hs - he was voted most talented. People look at certain things and not others. Ugly people would die for Eddie's charm and looks, dumb people for his intellect and talent. My friend Dave has an IQ of 80, only got good looking by getting lots of reconstructive surgery (i don't know why it was important to him), tried hard in school and could only get Cs. Couldn't work cause he could follow directions. But his parents were rich . He tried to learn guitar but couldn't though he loved music and tried hard. He never dated a woman except by paying them. Poor Eddie? My friend did the best he could and went through hell but killed himself last year and I hope he has found peace. He didn't think he would as he didn't believe in God , no comfort here or there. But Eddie had it so rough ha! No, this is not against Eddie but how we judge people on superficial things or some things that seem bad (oh she had a miscarriage .. that is the worst thing ever!) Well there are a lot worse things.
